I was plesantly surprised by the food at Agave Kitchen in downtown Hudson!…read more I visited on a Thursday for lunch and the restaurant was pretty empty. There was a group of 4 of us so we were able to sit wherever we'd like to. Our server was very friendly, prompt, and helpful with our menu questions. We ordered a smattering of items but the most notable; table fries, cowboy corn bites, and the legendary nachos. All other items we ordered (chicken and shrimp tacos and a burger) were all good, just not as notable as the others. Regarding portions, they are HUGE! We should have shared entrees but took home leftovers instead. Overall, I'd recommend trying Agave Kitchen and I look forward to visiting again to try more menu items!

Uggg, I hate to be "that person" when everyone else seems to love this place. My 20 year old and I…read moredecided to try this place for lunch today. Menu is very limited so we were excited. Usually limited menu means they are really good at what they do and don't over extend themselves. We ordered chips and salsa, 2 horchatas, a torta and 3 tacos and with tip it was almost $60. That really surprised us because of price vs what we received was way off. Horchata was ok, it's a fav of ours so we can be picky and I wouldn't judge a place because it doesn't meet our taste standards on that. Chips and salsa were ok, salsa was more tomato sauce style than what we prefer...again, personal preferences. Here is what gets me... each taco is over $5 for a street taco. You give me solid tacos all day long and I would pay it. These weren't that great. I ordered one pollo, one asada and one carnitas. Chicken was ok, asada was the best of the three but real small amount of meat, carnitas I couldn't finish because it was so so so dry. I added a bunch of salsa verde and still ended up just leaving it. My son's torta was unfortunately carnitas as well. This man never complains and I saw him repeatedly adding salsa to it and he finally looked at me and said he was having a hard time choking it down because of how dry the carnitas was. So for almost $60 with tip we left not hungry, but certainly not happy with our lunch. Again I can't believe it was $60 for that. I don't think I can justify going back and even trying it again.

Extremely Disappointing -- What Happened to This Place?…read more We have recommended this restaurant to SO many people over the years, which makes writing this review even more disappointing. Unfortunately, after our most recent experience, we now feel obligated to go back to those same people and tell them NOT to go. That's how drastically things have changed. The menu has changed, and the fish and batter are completely different. We were told the fish hasn't changed, but what we received certainly wasn't what we've had in the past. The quality and preparation were noticeably different. The fries used to come seasoned, but not a single person at our table received seasoned fries. When we asked about it, we were told they simply forgot to season them. The timing of the food was another major issue. Everyone at our table received their meals except the person who ordered nachos. By the time the nachos finally arrived, nearly everyone else had finished eating. To make matters worse, the nachos were missing the guacamole, and the chips were so thin and flimsy that they kept breaking. We also had friends sitting at another table who experienced similar problems. One person's meal arrived approximately 20 minutes after everyone else's. They also noticed that the sweet potato fries had changed and were extremely disappointed with the food. They spent around $130 on a meal they described as awful. Now, I want to make one thing VERY clear: OUR WAITRESS WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Brenda was fantastic, and the other waitresses were doing their best while dealing with numerous complaints. They deserve recognition, not blame. Our waitress was wonderful, and none of our frustration is directed toward her. It's unfortunate that such great staff members are left dealing with unhappy customers because of problems that appear to be coming from the kitchen and management. What bothers me most is that we genuinely used to LOVE this place. We have recommended it to multiple friends and family members because we believed it was worth visiting. Now, instead of encouraging people to go, we feel like we need to warn them about how much the food and overall experience have declined. It's one thing to have an occasional bad meal, but when multiple tables are experiencing the same issues, something clearly needs to change. For the prices being charged, customers deserve better food quality, consistency, and meals that arrive together and as ordered. It's incredibly disappointing to go from being people who enthusiastically recommended this restaurant to people who now have to tell others to avoid it. Management needs to take these complaints seriously. You have wonderful waitresses, but great service can only do so much when the food and kitchen are letting everyone down. We sincerely hope things return to the way they used to be, because right now, we can no longer recommend this restaurant.

My son and I stopped in for dinner. I had the California burrito with beef and added cheese, and he had three beef street tacos. First, the portions were very generous. My burrito was huge--about the size of a Chipotle burrito--and the tacos were well filled. No complaints at all about the amount of food. Unfortunately, the preparation and flavor were where things fell short for us. Parts of the tortillas were cool, and the shredded cheese I added to my burrito was still basically unmelted inside. The California burrito comes with french fries in it, which was new to me, but the fries were also cold and ended up feeling more like filler than something that added much flavor or texture. My son had a similar reaction to the tacos. The flour tortillas weren't really warm and were pretty bland, and his first assessment was simply, "mid." Teenager terminology aside, I understood what he meant. Neither of us thought the food was bad; it just didn't have the flavor or freshness we were hoping for. For some price context, our check was about $39.20 including tax for the burrito, three tacos, a water and a Jarritos. I tipped 20%, bringing the final total to $47.05. You order at the counter and they bring the food to your table on metal trays, so it's primarily a counter-service setup. At that price, I think getting everything out hot and putting a little more flavor into the food would have made a huge difference. I actually regret not saying something while we were there about the cold fries and tortillas because it would have given them an opportunity to fix it. I just hate sending food back...The restaurant was also very quiet at the time--just us and one other couple looking at the menu--so maybe we simply caught them on an off night. I'm still going to give Bueno another shot and try something different. I really do want this place to be successful, especially having another option like this close to home. There's a good foundation here: the portions are generous, the concept is good, and a few relatively small improvements in temperature, preparation and flavor could have made our experience completely different. For this visit, though, I have to rate it based on what we were served. I was disappointed, but I'm hoping our next visit gives me a reason to update this review.
