Let me clarify first, our waiter deserves 5 stars and he was great…read more CHUY's: a Pathetic attempt at Mexican food The food is a 1 star though. Honestly, hands down the worst attempt at Mexican food I've ever had. This place honestly is a disgrace to Mexican food. The salsa was pathetic, no flavor and tasted like plain tomatoes. The second "salsa" we were told is a house favorite. It was literally a cold tomatillo ranch, gross. I got 2 ground beef enchiladas with Tex mex and a chili relleno. The enchiladas were not good but were also not the worst thing ever. The chili relleno however, tasted like a frozen pack of TGI Fridays mozzarella sticks from the store. No joke, you could taste the freezer burn on them. The beans were watery and had no flavor. The rice, you could easily tell has been sitting in a fridge at least over night. It was dry, hard, and also had no flavor. It amazes me these restaurant owners want to have a successful business, but insist on cutting corners and not making fresh food. Your food sucks and I won't be back. I wouldn't even let my dogs eat this food. Harsh huh? Simple solution, make your own food. If you want a successful restaurant, make your own tortillas, cook your own beef, make your sauce fresh everyday, shred fresh cheese, STOP CUTTING CORNERS. Any person with a good palette can clearly tell everything has either been sitting in a freezer or a fridge over night. The ambiance is also quirky and I'm not sure what themes they're going with. Woods, bricks, dogs on the wall, 90's color schemes, it's just not it. It takes me 5 minutes to make great food at home, I'll never understand why restaurants can't do the same. This is the type of place you see on a Gordon Ramsay show that he tries to save. My taste buds will never forgive me for eating here, don't make the same mistake.

I expected some crazy price tag to go with it but the price was very reasonable for the portions you get. If you want to clog your arteries, I recommend the burrito blanco. Starting off love the location and environment. Easy in and out for the most part but plenty of parking all around. Themed is modern Mexican if that's a thing or not but cozy nonetheless. Service was good this time around but can be hit or miss depending on how busy they are. Staff was nice and was able to sit us quicker than expected considering the holidays. As usual chips and salsa was good and fresh, I ended up ordering the steak fajita to share with my daughter. It was a decent size portion that both of us easily enjoyed and finishing off. The wife and I shared the margarita flight. I personally loved the mango as it had a lite spice to it but the pineapple is my favorite. Now comes for the issue items, that large plate only come with 3 small tortillas that we killed off quickly then I get uncharged $2 for 3 more. Most places give you 5 to start of off and still don't charge for more. We also got a cup of white queso dip. $11.50 for a small cup? Up charge for extra sour cream? It's not the worst thing ever but if you're going to skimp on what should have been on the plate in the first place then you shouldn't up charge when customer asked for more. Other than that I may just come back for drinks and skip out on the food.

My friends and I would stop in almost every week. Those meals became part of my routine and part of my memories growing up. Realizing it has been more than thirty years since those first visits makes it even more meaningful to see the restaurant still open today. I am sure the family behind it had been serving the community long before I ever moved to Dade City in the late 80s. The fact that they are still here after so many decades says everything about their dedication and the quality of what they serve. Some reviewers talk about a lack of spices, but that was never my experience. Little Mexico always delivered real flavor and real consistency. They never needed to rely on anything flashy. They simply cooked good food and stood by their recipes. If a restaurant can maintain a positive reputation across generations, it means they earned it. I truly hope the family is doing well. Seeing them still succeed after all these years brings back memories and emotion I was not expecting. It feels like a piece of my childhood is still standing strong.

We all ordered the taco platter (two tacos of your choice--soft or crunchy, and steak, chicken, ground beef, or shredded beef...and rice and beans). Great street-style tacos! Two types of salsa--I preferred the verde with a little bite. And even better, the owner came out with a platter of tacos...on the house! Barbacoa, carnitas and al pastor. Too cool. Gracias! Cold horchata, tasty food, friendly service and very reasonable prices. #Winning The only downside: They don't serve alcohol. And a couple of cold ones would've gone down so nicely... Highly recommended, of course.
