Israel's Delicias De Mexico Gourmet - Volcano

Israel's Delicias De Mexico Gourmet

Wow! Not your typical Mexican restaurant. This is gourmet food. Each dish seems to be carefully…read moreplanned out with the ingredients. The ingredients all seemed very fresh. The vegetarian options were great. There is so much to choose from The salsa with the chips is nothing like I have ever had before and there are 3 options served The portions were very large. The restaurant is clean and you can even see the kitchen. The restroom was clean and the server attentive. Will definitely be back.

I decided to stop into Israel's Delicias De Mexico Gourmet which sits right alongside of Spring St…read morejust outside the heart of downtown New Albany. Today is Cinco de Mayo and I was feeling up to a delicious authentic Mexican meal. This restaurant has a variety of various Mexican dishes and albeit is rather pricey for their platters, which range from $19-$29 and appetizers from $8-$22. Also surprisingly I didn't find any sort of dessert at all unless there is a separate menu for that but I was never told that by my server, more on that later. The environment is one you'd expect of any authentic Mexican restaurant, a very colorful decor with lots of Mexican decor spread throughout with some Mexican music playing in the background to set the ambiance of this establishment granted I was sitting in the background of the seating area and couldn't hear this music if I were sitting in the front. On this visit, being my first, I decided to try the Nachos Delicias (Queso, tomato, onions, cilantro, sour cream and choice of chicken, chorizo and steak) I requested no onions and steak. I also tried their Quesadilla El Jefe Jeff (Stuffed with cheese, steak, shrimp, chicken, chorizo, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, cilantro and sour cream) I requested no onions. The nachos were really nothing too terribly special outside of just being put in a somewhat fancy bowl to make them look or appear better than they were. They didn't taste too bad outside of finding the steak to not really be all that flavorful or seasoned. I feel for the price which was $18.50, that it could've been more for what I paid for. The quesadilla was absolutely worth it and was quite filling. Definitely the star of this meal however I was disappointed to find onion in my meal when I specifically requested there to not be. Outside of that is was quite good and something I'd order again. My biggest issue was there was only one server working and of all days it was on Cinco de Mayo which you as a Mexican restaurant should expect to be busy in which they were. Our server never once stopped to ask if we needed anything, no offer of dessert (which I am still not sure they offer) or even to ask if I wanted another drink. I don't see myself going out of my way to come here albeit it wasn't awful but the price for things was too much in my opinion. I feel that I've had better food for a lower price at other authentic Mexican restaurants. So just keep this in mind when deciding to stop here.

We we readily greeted, the place was pretty full but a few open locations. There is also a bar area and some seating there also. Host found us a booth and seated quickly. They brought chips and salsa, 1 mild, 1 hot. Soon our waiter stopped by for drink orders; nice selection but not overboard; something for all plus mixed drinks. Drinks were served and he took our food order. My wife ordered the BURRITOS SUPREMOS; One beef with bean burrito and One chicken with bean burrito. Both are topped with our burrito sauce or white queso lettuce, tomato and sour cream and I had ordered THE BIG ONE; This is the big one! Ground beef, shredded chicken or shredded beef, rice, beans, tomato, lettuce, sour cream topped with white queso. We chatted and enjoyed our drinks: soon our food was served to the table. WOW, did they look delicious; nice presentation and each a hearty serving. The entrees were delicious and as much as we enjoyed them we weren't going to finish. Waiter was great ( Balthazar, he was awesome) While there a kid had a birthday and the staff celebrated with him with a moment with a sombrero and a festive birthday candle and desert. They turn off the lights and sing happy birthday in Spanish. Definitely will be a place to come back to and visit. Everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals and libations!
