Messed up my order than got an attitude with me. Don't recommend carryout. Store quality has went to shit. This tiny plate was almost $16 and the steak is over cooked and onions are undercooked. This is after I had to ask for the cheese dip I was supposed to get that was barely on it. Been a loyal customer since high school. With all the 5 star reviews and the love on Yelp!, I had high expectations for Yellow Cactus. Judging by the Friday dinner crowd, we were off to a great start. The interior is welcoming, the. restaurant is clean and we were seated promptly. A server was Johnny on the spot with chips and salsas. One salsa was mild and the other had just a touch of heat. The menu is expansive. But sadly, our food was underwhelming. My wife's chicken enchiladas with mole was flavorless. The chicken was dry and the mole sauce was woefully thin and failed to cover the enchiladas. Chicken fajitas? Served sizzling with flour tortillas, lots of grilled veggies and overcooked chicken. Yellow Cactus only serves refried beans. No boracho. No charro. No black beans. I don't get it. Our friends fared better. The chimichanga was large, filled with ground beef and smothered in cheese & gravy. The big winner was the el patron steak burrito. That disappeared. Portions are generous. Service is very good. And prices are a tad high, but not oppressive. But the Yellow Cactus needs to improve their food quality to be worthy of those very generous 5 star reviews. read more

WOW, so glad I found this place, it beats El Nopal hands down for quality, taste and portions sizes. This is a must visit.

I have been a loyal Cactus fan from the start but after today I don't think I will be able to convince my husband to go back. The prices have gone up in my opinion pretty substantially. The chicken fajita quesadilla is now $16.99..... granted it is huge now but I just wanted my $12.99 size. A soft taco is $3.99 and an a la carte chicken burrito is $8.99. Holy Smokes. Oh..... I ordered a side of ranch dressing which I don't mind paying a little extra for but they charged us this time $1.50. BUT the kicker is the surcharge they now charge. They have a sign posted and I asked what it exactly meant..... they had no idea. I'll post that picture as well. I guess we will travel to Puerta Vallarta next time. Such a shame.... read more

Yummy local restaurant. They have so many different items in their menu and they are all so good. The service is great and fast!

The food is delicious! However they really need to do a better job at servicing the tables. We had to get up and find someone for chips, to go boxes and the check. Yellow cactus is going downhill fast. Food used to be excellent for the prices. Food quality has went South and prices have went North. The service is great, the ambiance has been the same for a long time, nice atmosphere. It's a real shame, this happens to a lot of restaurants where I dine. Prices through the roof, quality food goes to the basement. Still a nice place to drink and have some snacks, but to dine on mediocre food with high quality prices. Ordered just one steak fajitas to go and it cost almost $26! I asked if it at least came with chips and salsa and he said no. Got home and the steak was so thin and tough and it had hardly any seasoning on it all. The onions, peppers and tomatoes were still hard too. The food from Yellow Cactus has always been really good. I love that is local and not far from home. I would recommend that they update their menu about the flan. Twice I have ordered it from them for delivery online, and when my order got here, there was no flan. After the second time, I called them about it, and they said they did not have flan. It needs to be taken off the menu, because I can see it is still there today as I am about to order food from them again. I highly recommend their tacos carne asada! They are always great! read more

Yes, it is your standard Mexican restaurant, but it's way better than the El Nopals on every corner in these parts. Both mild and spicy salsas are given with chips. The spicy had fantastic flavor, the mild was a bit boring, but that's just my personal preference. Both tasted fresh. My husband decided that being at a Mexican restaurant, he should definitely order the wings and cheese fries. The fries were delicious (I mean, how can they not be when smothered in cheese dip?) and all three guys in our group loved the wings (I'm not a wings person). They come dry and crispy, with a large side of hot sauce and blue cheese. Apparently there is a wing special on Thursdays. I ordered the seafood enchiladas, which were delicious. Cheese dip with chorizo was also fantastic. The real winner here were the 23 oz margaritas for $6.99 (Friday special)! Please sir, may I have another? Business Lunch was very good and quick from the kitchen. I will definitely be bringing my wife in the have dinner in the future.

The food here was pretty good and clearly the locals thought so too as the place was busy! The staff did their best to keep up with the crowd although that meant leaving the front unattended at times. I got chicken topped with seafood medley, side of veggies and rice, and lots of queso on the server's recommendation. It was out in a timely fashion and cooked to perfection. The food here is good. The queso is my fav in the area. It can get a little busy so be aware of that if you're looking for something quiet.

After some stressful moving, my fiance and I decided we were going to get Mexican food! After previous, successful visits to Yellow Cactus; we decided to return. And they did not disappoint. He ordered a Dos Equis and I ordered a strawberry margarita. The margarita hit the spot! Perfect balance of fruity and tequila. We ordered the steak fajitas for two. That was easily for 3-4! We took so much home for leftovers. The meat was perfectly cooked and flavorful. The vegetables were grilled to perfection without being a mushy mess. The rice, beans and toppings were plentiful. One of the best Mexican restaurants I've had. I love yellow cactus. The food is great and so is the service. My only suggestion is a better set up. There isn't much of a waiting area or lobby. They have a good selection of Mexican dishes; the usual tacos, burritos, chimichangas, fajitas and enchiladas. I really like their pico de gallo. Chicken was a bit greasy in the Cactus Chicken dinner, the portion was large with less than flavorful Spanish rice. The tamale was greasy too and I added cheese sauce that must come with chorizo mixed in an that too was greasy. Chips hot, salsa mild and spicy were good. Spicy was not very high in heat. Service was awful and we we one of a handful in the whole restaurant, we were between the lunch and dinner crowd and they were staffed, but not properly providing service. read more

Best check the prices before you order. I placed a phone in order for carryout. I ordered an appetizer and an entree off of the menu that I got from the restaurant. When I went to pick up the food, the cost was much higher than it should have been. When I inquired, I was told that the appetizer on the menu did not exist, even though I just ordered it a month or two before, so they replaced it with a full size order without asking. Additionally, they charged $5.00 more for the entree than was posted on the menu IN THEIR STORE!! So all in all, my meal was $45 for what should have been one appetizer and one entree. On top of that, the food was terrible. The chicken was tough, the sides were flavorless and skimpy. And the gentleman at the counter was very rude. Stopped at Yellow Cactus for a take out order. Ordered the Cactus special with chicken and veggies, a fajita quesadilla because I wasn't very hungry, a tostada and a few tacos. Was disappointed because I thought all tostadas consisted of beef and beans. This tostada had no beans so was basically it was a higher priced taco. Have to remember to order beef and bean next time. Food Is good but they just revised their menu and prices seem to have went up roughly $3.00 an item. If you carry out they charge you .50 more for EACH item. Absolutely terrible experience today for lunch. I was brought the wrong burrito and brought it to our server's attention. He said it was my fault even though the burrito had a completely different sauce than the one I ordered but took the food away and said he would have it remade. In the meantime he threw the ticket on our table. While I was waiting for my lunch another server zipped his pants roughly 2 feet from my face. My boyfriend asked for a manager and we were told there was none. He asked why we were being treated so disrespectfully and was not offered an apology, just told we were on camera. You'll know that Yellow Cactus is a Mexican restaurant because they tell you so. Otherwise, it would be tough to notice as they don't follow the conventional setup. Rather than having traditional art, the place looks like a sports bar with several TV's, drink special banners and racing parafanalia. Yellow Cactus also shuns the typical warm paint hues that are indicative of the standard Tex-Mex found in the area, draping their joint in blacks, purples, yellows and oranges that give it more of a Halloween feel. Also, don't expect to hear Ranchera music as it has been thrown out in favor of late 90's mid-level rock. But, I swear that it is a Mexican restaurant. You can tell because they give you chips and salsa very quickly. The chips were very good and the salsa came in two flavors: good-with-a-lingering-heat and one-step-above-ketchup. The lingering heat salsa was quite good. Service is excellent! Our server was very attentive and helpful with his recommendations. The owner/manager (I didn't ask to see her resume) was very friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy chatting with the regulars. She stopped by our table to make sure that everything was going well. It was. The food was alright. I had the chicken fajitas (since it was Fajita Night!) which featured well seared onions and peppers alongside deliciously marinated chicken slices. Very good. However, my partner in crime's mole enchiladas were not as spectacular. The mole sauce lacked both sweetness and kick. I don't think that I could recommend making a trip up to the Knobs specifically to eat here, but it wasn't bad. read more
