This was a very good meal. I ordered the La Lita and have found a new twist on a tostada. 5 stars Maybe it's because we were not locals and it appears locals are on a first name basis. We did not know to seat ourselves and there wasn't someone in the dining room to tell us at first. I think maybe we arrived when the only staff there cooked and served until more staff arrived. The additional staff came in and we didn't know how to pay. They never picked up the payment tray as is customary everywhere. We wanted to take to go food but didn't get it added to the check (maybe she didn't think we were serious ?) She was nice. It was just a bit clunky service. Try the food. Just know to seat yourself and maybe ask how to pay as soon as check arrives. Then teach me! read more

The tables and booths are always clean, and service is always delivered with a smile. The restaurant is located in a historic building, which I feel adds to it's unique, rustic flair. I work for Fresno County but I'm in Reedley 4 days a week. I found this place here on Yelp and thought I'd give it a try. It's tucked away on a street corner. I ordered one of the $7.50 brown bag specials: 2 tacos, chips, salsa, and a drink. It was ready in less than 5 minutes. Everything was delicious! The 2 tacos were huge and filling. Located in a historical building in Downtown Reedley, El Monte restaurant has charm, reasonable prices and a relaxed atmosphere. Sit at a booth, order a cold one and check out the menu. You might not see as many options as other places, but the recipes were created by the owners and they do hit the spot. No meatless options in the menu, as the sauce used on some meals contains beef. Food is average and portion sizes are generous. Kids meals available. Indoor seating only. Staff is very polite and responsive. The waiter checked on me several times and when I ordered coffee, they made some fresh for me. Don't expect flat screen TVs, or WiFi. This kind of setup allows you to focus on people. So, bring some friends with you, and spend some quality time if you happen to be in the area. Awful. This is not Mexican food. They use the lowest quality of ingredients and nickle and dime for everything. They charge $2 for an extra plate, but do not provide extra food. The purpose for an extra plate fee was to add an extra amount of side dish, not just for the simple reason of making more money from their customers. OMG HOW FUNNY! Im the first to review this place!! Well it IS Reedley, CA... Figures! Prolly one of the only places open day after July 4th is the reason we came here. Ben and I tried their lunch specials so we tried their chile rellenos and tamales. The tamales were OK, the beef was kind of dry. The chile rellenos were really weird. It was an omelet instead with the green pepper inside--what the??? Obviously it wasnt a very authentic Mexican place (most everyone --including staff) were NOT mexican. but it got the job done. Service was typical of the country--extremely friendly and personable. The red (dipping) sauce they give you (not hot sauce, not salsa) with ur food is hella good. YUM! read more

Overall it was average to slightly below experience. The place was empty except for two others in the Resturant while I was there. It was a Sunday after noon around 2:30pm on Mother's Day. The service was fast and friendly. I had a two item comb plate that consisted of one ground beef enchilada and a ground beef taco. The salsa had good flavor, however chips seemed to be from a store bought bag, and thick. The rice was surprisingly cooked prefect and with good color just how Spanish rice should look. But the taste was not there for my liking, it was bland and tasteless. The ground beef taco can in a store bought hard shell just like in a fast food Mexican establishment would serve you through a drive thru. The food here is phenomenal, especially when you use the restaurant.com coupons, but before I get to that, let me address the minus 2 stars. I understand this is Reedley and most places in "downtown" close as soon as the sun goes down...maybe the still don't have those new-fangled electric lights or something, but either way, I still don't understand how it can be profitable to run a restaurant when you close at 6p every night...that being said, they've been open forever so it must work for them! Second, the service is real hit or miss. It's either fabulous or foul! We were here with my parents when we visited for Christmas and we watched another table that sat down after us order and get their food before us! Not to mention, my cup ran dry so many times I was trying to convince my husband to get up and go refill my glass himself! I need my hydration! Mexican food is all carbs! What is amazing about this place is the food! Still some great homemade, authentic Mexican food with some solid dinner specials! They change every night, but whatever the special is it's $6 for the entree and a drink! My personal favorite is the chicken flour taco....don't be fooled, it's not a regular sized taco, it's huge! I used to love El Monte, but frankly it just doesn't taste as good as back in the day. Yes I was born in this lil town of reedley and ate here many of times.. They have a yummy bean and cheese dip!! The only thing I do get Is their enchiladas.. The tamales are poor excuses of tamales and after eating their tacos and chile rellenos I won't eat that ever again...lol.. But hey. They are constantly bumping the country music which is kinda weird for a Mexican restaurant.. Doesnt always taste "fresh", or look fresh..but Prices are good though. First time eating at the establishment. Prices are good for lunch and service was great. Had a taco and enchilada with rice and beans. Nothing to criticize it was good. I was surprised on the size of the taco. I was expecting a little taco and got a good size tortilla with plenty of meat. Tortilla was grilled with a little grease which was perfect for me.
