Excellent food. This is excellent Michoacan-style food. My wife and I are very picky when it comes to our favorite Mexican spots, El Michoacano sits as one of top picks. We feel like we're eating at a relatives house because the food feels so "home-made". Unfortunately, they close early so get in there before closing time! Highly recommended and the price is right! read more

Food is delicious, you just can't eat it all, had to take what I couldn't eat home. Service is great!!! Atmosphere is great. Highly recommend!!! read more

My parents really love this place! I met them and my brother, who had been here before, for lunch. The server was very friendly and she is my parents favorite server there. The vibe is very casual and authentic. We were there around 1pm and it wasn't busy. The I'm pescatarian, but rarely eat seafood and the selection isn't very vegetarian/ vegan friendly, but it is doable. We all enjoyed our food and our time here. I'll be back again. read more

Their food is so good. And the place is so cozy. Service is always good. Always servers you enough and always hot! I truly recommend this place read more

Excellent, not to mention authentic food. Service from staff who care and take pride in their work.

I can't say enough about how good their food is! First of all it is smaller and can be very busy on the weekends, but it's worth it if you have to wait. The menu has so many REALLY traditional Mexican dishes and it's so difficult to decide so we order something different and share some bites. Today I had the Napoles ala Mex. Con Huevos. Scrambled eggs with cactus, jalapeños, onion, tomato and cotija cheese. So delicious! Their complementary chips and salsa also comes with their amazing salsa with cabbage! Don't be afraid! It's amazing! They do beans and rice perfect. So fresh and tasty. Their beans are my favorite! The service is great! I can't wait til next time! They do REAL Mexican food and they do it well and oh so FRESH! read more

Love this restaurant since it first opened. Great Mexican food and one of the best in East Chicago IN.

I ordered a Menudo I didn't even eat, and the owner charged. Menudo didn't have any flavor, I tried to fix it adding lime, salt oregano, and chile but not even with all that was good, The server told the owner, but she said I have to pay witch I did. Owner or server didn't even bother asking if I wanted to order something else. Never coming back. So disappointed read more

Now this is Mexican! Our family loves trying new places around the NW Indiana region since moving here earlier this summer. We swung through East Chicago recently on a quest for a good Mexican lunch. El Michoacano did not disappoint! We fed our family of 7 for less than $60 and everyone loved it. We also had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. read more

El Michoacano - Jalapeño, tomato, onion, papas, scrambled eggs w/cheese, and asada on side (skirt/flank steak)... mmm mmmmm good! - Mexican Near Me - East Chicago, Indiana

One of the best and most authentic I have ever been to. The chicken soup was amazing. Guacamole was good, heavy on the cilantro. Salsa and pico de gallo were good. The portions are huge. Four of us sat in a booth. The waitress suggested we move to a bigger table because she didn't we would have enough room. She was right!!! Can't wait to go back. read more

El Michoacano - All of our dinners. I had a combo plate of a enchilada, tostada suiza and a flauta. My husband had the Gorditas. - Mexican Near Me - East Chicago, Indiana

Worst service, food, and ambiance. Old spoiled shrimp, what time for the food AND bill are outrageous. The owner lady or manager.. (the diabetic one) is super short tempered and I had return my caldo de 7 mares. NEVER AGAIN. All the good reviews posted on here are from her family members don't get fooled with the 4 stars! This is a 0 stars! read more

This was nice local recommendation courtesy of Yelper pal, Jennifer G in Merillville. I had 3 enchiladas Mexicana (Spanish red sauce) for $5.25. Refried beans and rice were fresh and good. This is now one of my favorites in the area for good, cheap Mexican eats. They have a large menu selection, and many items are under $6. Dining room is comfortable, and they take credit cards. Jennifer - this place may have been discovered - lunch crowd was half Hispanic, half Caucasian! read more

We were greeted by the waitress with a "We have no seats and the food is taking a long time to come out". A nice customer immediately told the waitress that we can have her table. So, we decided to stay since there's not to many places in EC to eat. The food was okay, when we went to pay at the register they couldn't find our bill. So we had to tell her the entire order only to find out afterwards they found it on the floor. We won't be back. read more

Hello FOOD SNOB here. When Mexican friends say this place is authentic I had to try it. The inside is not the most inviting. It reminds me of an old fashion diner. It seems like real good restaurants are in old neighborhoods like this. The Beans and Rice tasted very homemade and authentic. The Milianesa Torta was as Big as my Head, really. They give you a lot of Meat and big chunks of Guacamole. The bread could hardly hold it. Steak Enchilada Suiza was very tasty, in its rich sauce. The Guacamole dip had Big Chunks of Tomato and Onion, but could have had a little more seasoning. A little salt took care of that. read more

Had the taco dinner, ordered one chicken, one steak, and one pork. First off, I'm stuffed! The tacos were huge. All of the tacos were good, but the pork was awesome. Tender, flavorful.... And the home made salsa was great. For $8, I'm stuffed and happy. Will be back again for lunch! The pork tacos are awesome! Ordered taco dinner, I'm stuffed, tacos are huge! read more

The food here was excellent and I'd say this is my second favorite Mexican restaurant in NW Indiana. To start off with, the salsa that comes with the chips is awesome. It's a cabbage-based pico de gallo. I don't know if there's a specific name for that kind of salsa, but it's the best salsa I've ever had. The food comes in really large portions, everything I've had there is really good, and the prices are really reasonable. The only reason I didn't give this five stars is because the location is in a really sketchy neighborhood. The only times I've been here were at lunchtime, with a big group of co-workers. This isn't a neighborhood I would ever feel comfortable coming to alone in the evening. read more

Michos has become a weekly tradition since I started working at ArcelorMittal in July. Hands down the best Mexican restaurant ever/best value food ever. I get a chicken quesadilla with a side of sour cream once a week and don't think I will ever get sick of it. How can you beat free chips/salsa and the best quesadilla ever for $2.69 .... not possible. read more

THE BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN THE REGION. Been here MANY times...EVERYTHING is just SOOOO GOOD. Great prices, generous portions. ONLY COMPLAINT...Crunchy Tacos are made with shells instead of deep fried tortillas. I can't get enough of their FRESH LIMONADA...that runs out pretty quick. Great family atmosphere. read more

This is a gem worth the trip. read more

What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said? I love coming here for lunch. The food is the best Mexican I've had. The girls waiting the floor are really great, they don't even ask me if I want a menu anymore. The cabbage based pico is wonderful, and the salsa you get with the meal comes in a squirt bottle so you can put it on everything. I usually get the steak taco dinner with an extra bowl of pico, it comes with limes to squeeze on your tacos. I see people eating just about everything, I have to try the soup one of these days, it comes in a huge bowl with dinosaur sized pieces of meat and veggies. If I had anything bad to say about them it's that they are wasting their talents by not opening another place in Merrillville. Please patronize this place if you are in The Harbor, they all work hard and deserve to succeed. read more

This place has some of the best steak tacos. The tortillas are grilled and add a nice flavor. I've also had the burrito and quesadillas which are just as good. The chips & pico de gallo is amazing.
