I was craving food with flavor, so I was hoping this place would provide me with that. I was eager to give it a try. There was a sign across from this place that stated Casa Blanca Restaurant Parking . It was in a weird area that I wasn't comfortable parking at, but I took a gamble. My significant other and I walked inside. We were greeted immediately. We were able to choose a booth or a table and went with a booth. We were seated at 10. I looked at the menu to see what was offered. From the Beverages section, Soft Drinks were $2.99. The server gave me options and I chose Diet Pepsi. From the Cocktails section, I got a Margarita 16oz for $9.99. It was served on the rocks. The server gave me the choice of salt or sugar on the rim and I chose salt. The Especialidad De La Casa were Served with Rice, Beans Garnished with Grilled Green onion, Lettuce and Pico de Gallo. I went with Fajitas Casa Blanca for $25.99. It was Steak, Chicken, and Shrimp Mixed with onion, Green Pepper, and Tomato. The server gave me the choice of corn or flour tortillas and I chose corn. The server offered verde salsa and rojo salsa, so I didn't pass those up. They were free. We were given free chips and salsa. They were tasty and so was the free refill on them. I was given free water. It was alright. The Diet Pepsi was great and so was the free refill on it that I got. The Margarita was fantastic. My only issue was that there was a lot of ice in it. The Fajitas Casa Blanca were awesome. The whole ensemble was tasty. The verde salsa and rojo salsa were both decent. The service was fantastic. Our server was efficient. I didn't have any issues. Waited a long time for our favorite place to reopen. They made nice, long overdue updates; however, they changed the entire menu. It's basically a seafood restaurant now. Tampiquena carne asada was thin, crispy, glorified Steak-umms. Had zero flavor. Even the rice and beans were tasteless. The old staff was gone, no wonder. I really should have passed on the horchata cuz it was really bad because I knew they used the powder mix, yuck! but I was still charged even though I let my waitress know.(bummer) Please filter the water or serve it with ice because it was distilled and tasted like it was siting overnight. Food was ok and wasn't that special. Food was decently priced and served a decent portion. I ordered 2 sopes with steak and quac. Meat was seasoned good and I loved the fact that the sope was freshly made and thick. I've been here numerous times, and it's a reliable place for a comfortable Mexican lunch. There's a huge amount of seating. I can't say that I like the tortilla chips here as much though, as they are extra thick and crunchy. This last visit I had their fiesta lunch combination, and it was both huge and good (chili relleno, enchilada, skirt steak, and a pork sope/gordita). There is no substitute for poor/bad service! What started out as a routine family dinner outing, end in an evening of bad jokes about a horrible dining experience. In a geographic area that's home many Mexican restaurants, I'll spend my money elsewhere. I've never experienced a situation where there was a 7-10 wait between bringing each of four people's food.....and with no offered explanation. Waited 15 minutes to get drink refills, and another 15 minutes after getting boxes for leftovers.. to be offered the check. To add injury to insult.....they refused to honor our $5 coupon from restaurants.com because we only had the smart phone view versus a hard copy. This truly annoyed me..... The carne asada is very good. It competes with El Taco Real's for sure. My steak taco was a corn tortilla full of cubed steak. I was taken aback at first when there was nothing else in the tortilla. So i put a little lettuce and tomato in there, poured some salsa inside and smeared some beans and scattered a little rice inside. Could be the best steak taco I have ever eaten. The steak was so delicious and there was so much of it - I highly recommend it. What a beautiful setting. Amazing tiles all over this wide open space. Stained glass, working tile fountains. I could have sat there for hours reading and drinking Bohemia. The Margarita. Yuck. I asked for a margarita with Grand Marnier. They don't serve that there - their margaritas are premixed but I was assured that they were excellent. It was not excellent. The mix tasted like a melted lime freeze pop. I like to taste good tequila and grand marnier in my margarita and my margarita was just really bad. I didn't let that ruin my fantastic experience there. I ordered a Bohemia and that worked almost as well as a good margarita. I can't wait to go back and try some of their seafood dishes. The menu looks amazing. read more

I miss that old dude in white so much. Now that he is gone the quality of the food has gone downhill. This was Casa Blanca's last chance for me. I love the staff and the waitresses but I can't eat there anymore. I played it safe and ordered a steak taco because Casa Blanca was known for it's great steak tacos. The meat tasted bland now and was pretty much rubber. No one wants a fat steak taco filled with meat that is going to hurt your stomach. I can tell the old man had a hand on the quality and it's a shame they are cutting corners now and serving a poor product. It's just not the same. RIP Casablanca. read more

Factor in the old school charm of the Casa Blanca interior, and it's no contest (I never understood what all the fuss was about with ETR, it's average at best). I've been coming to the white house now for over 30 years, and I've eaten a LOT of Mexican chow in that time, and I can honestly say the Carna Asada at Casa Blanca is the best I've ever had. And I live in L.A. now which is pretty much Mexico anyways. L.A. food basically sucks but it does have TONS of great Mexican. Still, Casa Blanca beats it all. Don't ever change, Casa Blanca. This place is INCREDIBLE!!! I've been coming here on & off since I was a kid. I'm now in my early thirties. The quality of the food has not changed, but may in fact, have gotten better. Beginning with the guacamole appetizer, everything is awesome. Their carne asada is amazing. The carne asada burrito is the carnivore's fantasy; filled with meat, refried beans and that's it! AWESOME The decor hasn't changed since it opened in the 70's, but that only adds to its charm. The drinks are poured heavy and the margarita's are equally as great. Went there with some family friends. Casablanca has a nicely decorated inside and the servers are friendly. The chips and salsa were included with the meal, but the salsa wasn't anything amazing. I had the chicken fajitas for dinner. They had decent flavor, but they were not the best in my opinion. The meat was not as lean as i would like and had some gristle in it as well. In addition, they were not served on a sizzling plate or with guac and sour cream as i am used to. However, I must say that the beans and rice were absolutely delicious. Bottom line, nice place to eat, decent food, but el Taco real is much better. read more

I discovered this restaurant about 12 years ago. I live in Chicago. My daughter and I go there at least (2) times a month. The food is authentic and sooooo very good. The staff is friendly and never forget your face. It is moderately priced or should I just say, Very affordable!!!! I've had a number of their dishes they are all good but our favorite is the SHRIMP THERMODORE, large shrimp in a creamy sherry sauce. DELICIOUS!!! This is the best restaurant and well worth the visit. Oh don't forget to order the margaritas they are the best. I could never drink a whole one because they are soooo potent. Enjoy your meals. When it comes to the food and the vibe, Casa Blanca has it all. Made a return visit here a week or so ago and everything was faultless; was even able to get a bowl of mild salsa for the chips on the table upon request. Enchilada Suizas were as wonderful as ever. Tasty beans, plenty of cheese on top of the enchiladas, and a good server were all pluses. My only problem with Casa Blanca these days is the neighborhood in which they are located; I do not feel safe going there even in the daytime with my husband. read more

Hello, FOOD SNOB here. Growing up a block away from this place, it always brings back memories when I go here. The neighborhood sure has changed from the 60s and 70s, when I hung out on the streets of this blue collar town. Heck I still remember when this place was a bookie joint. In the late 70s they turned this into a beautiful white house eating place. When you go inside you would think your in Mexico, with its marble furniture and water fountain. The Carne Asada is the best on the menu. The milianeza steak is great too. And the one thing I should mention the Margaritas. The BEST EVER. This place was almost lost when a developer wanted to buy the entire block and build an Aldi's store. If this ever happens I hope the owner Manual with his usual white slacks either moves or sells the joint. All in all I would rate this as the SECOND best mexican restaraunt in the area, just behind EL TACO REAL. Whatever happens to this place, just want to say thanks for the memories. read more

We work in Chicago, left early and decided to visit a favorite place from the past. It was just as delicious and our server was outstanding! I had the absolute worse service there. The waitress was extremely rude and treated me and my friends terribly for the entire visit. From talking over us to walking away mid conversation. The food was cold and my chicken quesadillas had bones and gristle in them. The cashier tried to overcharge us on our bill as well. Came here during a Thanksgiving trip to visit the in laws (my fiance and I live in California). LOVED the $3 steak taco plate. This is an amazing a la carte bargain that should not be overlooked. Our wonderful waiter mixed a mighty stiff margarita that rivals any I've had out here in the SF Mission. In fact, I could only finish half! The kitschy interior of Casa Blanca is worth the trip in and of itself. Arched windows and doorways, ornate wrought iron, brightly colored tile, a ceramic fountain big enough to wade in, and (wait for it) pink pleather horseshoe booths. When I say pink, I'm talking about Pepto-Bismol pink. It's fabulous. The servers are a bit slow, even when the place isn't crowded. I absolutely love the chips and salsa; thick corn chips warmed before they come to the table and super spicy salsa. I love the cheese dip, but $7.99 per order is a bit steep. Margaritas are decent, but they only offer one size...small. However, the deluxe nachos are NOT to be missed. Individual round corn chips each have beans, seasoned beef, guac, cheese, and sour cream topped with a single jalapeño or pickled carrot slice. It's the greatest way to share a plate of nachos since it doesn't get soggy or gross. If you're like me, you get a little snippy when your table mate piles all the good stuff onto their plate, but these little beauties ensure you'll have a perfect bite of nacho deliciousness every time. Faster service, margaritas the size of a fishbowl, and better deals for appetizers would merit Casa Blanca 4 stars. read more

This place used to be so beautiful. It is a little run down now. The different shades of pink in the dining room are a little overwhelming. The bathrooms also had the old towels rolls. Yuck. I have always seen this place and wanted to stop in. I figured a Mexican restaurant in EC that has been here as long as Casa Blanca has to be great. I was definitely wrong. The place is absolutely beautiful inside and it makes people think that they are in a real Mexian restaurant. It was all down hill from there. The nacho chips that came out were clearly out of a bag and then microwaved to make them warm and appear fresh. We asked if the tortillas were fresh but the waitress said that they also came prepackaged. I was shocked and couldn't understand how they could stay in business in that neighborhood. Then I looked around and did not notice one Latino in the place other than the employees. I ordered the chicken flautas and my wife had the caldo de res. My flautas came covered in a huge pile of sour cream. After scraping it all off, I was left with 3 incredibly dry flautas. I expect the edges to be a little crisp since it is fried but even the chicken in the middle was dry. I couldn't bare to eat the rice after the first bite. My wife's caldo was tolerable since it is very hard to mess that up. It seemed everything was just thrown in a big pot rather than taking the time to slice the veggies, but at least it was edible after adding some salt. The guacamole however was amazing. I sent a mass text to my family when I left asking why nobody told me how terrible Casa Blanca was and they all replied back saying that's we they refuse to go there. My grandma did mention one or two things on the menu that are actually good, but I don't have plans to go back. read more

Mexican food in NW Indiana doesn't get much better than Casa Blanca. Sure there's plenty of mediocre imitation Mexican restaurants, but there aren't many that can serve great classic authentic dishes in a such a nice setting. My family and I have been coming here since I was a child and I recall that the owner actually brought over Mexican workers and materials to build the restaurant as he envisioned. That's what I call entrepreneurial balls! Lots of white brick masonry, mosaic tile art, bull-fighting posters, marble...it's like a beautiful Mexican palace! As a Mexican who grew up on authentic delicious Mexican food at home and south of the border, grew up in EC, and now lives in Chicago, I'm not easily pleased nor impressed by the vast majority of Mexican restaurants. I find them too insipid, perhaps because they cater to their white clientelle's tastes. Nothing against white clientelle, but I believe the authenticity and quality of Mexican food has never had a problem attracting fans, so why bend to the Anglo tastes? The food is what it is, so I say love it or hate it. On to the food...all of which is delicious. My fave item on the menu is the carne asada. It's consistently an excellent cut of lean, seasoned, tender steak cooked to perfection. Sometimes if I'm in a rush, I'll order two steak tacos with beans and rice, which is plenty considering how they stuff their tacos as if they're burritos! The beans taste as yummy as my grandfather's, probably because they add a bit of lard for flavor. The salsa is always tasty and packs some heat. I hate weak-ass salsa! I also love their huachinango al mojo de ajo (red-snapper cooked in garlic and oil) and their camarones a la diabla (spicy devil shrimp)...so tasty! Otherwise, they get everything else right, whether it's guacamole, queso fundido, flautas, chile con carne, enchiladas, chiles rellenos, caldo de res, sopes, etc. They also have a full bar with great mexican beers, margaritas, and tequilas to wash down that delicious food. Casa Blanca...often imitated, but never duplicated. It's all good! read more
