Good, authentic Mexican food at very good prices. Whoever said that the food arrived cold obviously never saw/smelled the sizzling fajitas being delivered to the tables, or dug into the steaming enchiladas verde. The have lots of good specials, especially on weekends. The staff is normally very attentive, although we went once when they were obviously short-handed and waited a bit. BYOB makes it a very reasonably-priced meal. The menu is pretty broad, and includes some vegetarian and non-mex stuff for kids and those who are not mex fans. I have to agree that the place is not much to look inside. The could really do a lot with it by adding some better lighting and maybe some privacy dividers between parts of the seating area- and I would find a way to get rid of the parking lot view. But as someone else mentioned, you don't come to Mariachi for the ambiance- you come for a good, casual, BYOB mex meal. And if you come on a night when the (authentic) singing Mariachi is making rounds at the tables, you may forget all about the decor. Love this place. BEST Mexican food around Doylestown. Everything on the menu is fresh, full of flavor, and authentic. This place is BYOB which is A++ for me. You'll spend $25-$35 + bottle of wine for two people and really enjoy yourself. Service is friendly, maybe a little inexperienced, and the decor, ambiance, and location of the restaurant leave some to be desired, but that is not why I go to El Mariachi. Love the food. They offer take out so you can enjoy it in the comfort of your home if you don't like their dining room. If El Mariachi was located in a more aesthetically pleasing strip mall (or anywhere else, honestly) it would be much more successful. A true "hole in the wall". Last night my spouse and I waited over 25 min just for somebody to take our order. Once the waitress did come for our order it was an additional 45 min for us to get our entrees. Meanwhile we saw 8 take out meals get picked up. There seemed to be two wait staff and one buss boy working. The waitress we had was hustling around the entire restaurant while the other two staff members just stood there with their arms crossed. When the other waiter was ask a question he responded abruptly and then walked away while glaring. All of that would have been fine but on top of it all our food was wrong and it was very bland. Visited the area for work and saw this place and decided to give it a try and honestly if anyone thinks that those tacos are anywhere near what a taco should look and taste like then I give up on society. Who puts one tortilla on a taco so small at least double it, meat is dry , the salsa taste like water and the carnitas and steak taste identically. would give it a one star but the tacos are the only thing I got hopefully they make up with other items in the menu but definitely not going back to find out. read more

The food left much to be desired. My tortillas were very rubbery, The portion of rice was almost non existent, the chicken lacked flavor, the black bean sauce lacked black beans. I sat at my table for 10 minutes and no one asked me if I wanted a drink. When the first server came over I gave them my drink order of 1 soda and 1 water. She never came back to the table. A few minutes later someone else asked and I received my drink within minutes. After ordering our food we had plenty of time for "talking". I ordered a Chimicanga. It tasted like cheap spaghetti or pizza sauce in it...Ragu tastes better. It did not seem authentic to me. I've been to better restaurants in Bucks County. Authentic ---- Authenic OMG ever get out of rural PA. This place was all eye appeal, large pieces of chopped lettuce and blandness. Where's the taste pedro? When we were seated (we arrived around 7), the restaurant was maybe 3/4 filled with many empty tables, I asked for a table away from the crowd but we had 2 and that table had 4 chairs. The man sat us in a crowded area by a table of loud young kids and by someone trying to score points with his single mom date by going way overboard with her kid in a loud (to be noticed fashion). We know he got strike one by the food, strike 2 by his lameness and hopefully he struck out when he brought her home. BTW the table I asked for was still empty 70 minutes later as were many more tables. The decor was a bunch of mexican flags and paper cut outs hanging on the wall. There were no traditional colored lights and a few paper bells hanging from the lights. The food got worse. For appetizers we had the quesidillas fiesta. These were tortilas filled (lol) with a thin slice of cheese and I couldn't find the beef. The major accent was the huge slices of lettuce. - Avoid if you like food The chips they served were small in quanity and worse in quality. tasteless fried little nothings. Only the sauce was worse than the taste of these. Avoid more. I got two of their weekend special tamales. She got one. The first one (chicken) was doughy and tasteless. The chicken with mole sauce was a tad better but don't pay money for this tasteless garbage. I got the pork chops as I know mexico has more than tex mex tacos. I should have gotten the tacos except at taco bell. I got two thin sliced pork chops not cooked in sauce but covered with green sauce and not the tomatoes, red onions and poblano peppers in the menus. A bunch of white onions in bland green sauce instead. She got carne campiquiia. I asked about these and the servers couldn't describe these. The steak wasn't bad as it was the only nice thing we had. The helper brought out tortilas as an afterthought 3/4 of the way through our meal. For dessert we got the creme broulee cheesecake. It was ok but far from great. Overall, this was the true montezuma's revenge as it was over priced for the quality, bland tasting chopped lettuce. I know this is Doylestown, but I am sure there is a taco bell close by. No decor, worse food and a lousy host not concerned with the patrons. You may like it , but then my take is that you have never had authentic food, just an authentic rip off. read more

I've wanted to go to Mariachi's for quite a while and was excited to finally be able to go. The restaurant claims it serves authentic Mexican food, which I love. I've had the good fortune to visit Mexico many times and I was hoping to get that experience closer to home. Unfortunately I was less than impressed. The interior decor is dated and cosmetically in need of an update, but I've been to enough hole in the walls to know the food is what makes the place. The menu is expansive, which is a plus. The problem is that the food I had wasn't good. We were greeted immediately upon entering and sat down quickly. A waitress took our drink orders right away and brought chips with salsa verde. The chips were ok but the salsa verde was tasteless with the consistency of water. I ordered a side of guacamole to go with the chips. The guacamole was fresh and had a nice taste. We ordered combo fajitas, chicken chimichangas, and a side of refried beans. Our food was served within a decent amount of time, but we were not given silverware or napkins and there was no plate for the fajitas - we had to ask for all of it. The fajitas were bland, with no seasoning whatsoever. The steak was crunchy and the peppers were mushy with an acidic aftertaste. The chimichanga was ordered with mole sauce. The mole sauce tasted like thick old coffee and completely covered and saturated the chimichanga. The menus said it would be topped with onions and sour cream. There were no onions and I had to ask for sour cream. The chimichanga itself was bland, lacking in seasoning and flavor. I love authentic refried beans, which is why I ordered them as a side. They tasted as if they came from a can, the consistency was off and like everything else the beans lacked in seasoning and flavor. I am really disappointed. I was really hoping that this could be my new local go-to for a yummy authentic Mexican meal. Unfortunately I'll need to keep looking. read more

We have been going here almost 10 years and the food is as good then as it is now. My chicken burrito is perfect every time and guacamole is on point. My only issue is take out. They will likely mess up an order one way or another so I suggest eating in. We'll continue to return, but more closely check our take out. read more

El Mariachi is a wonderful place to enjoy a fine meal of Mexican food. My girlfriend and I went this past week and were surprised by just how reasonable the prices are. Huge portions seem to be the norm, I could only eat half of the food they gave me. Everything was fresh and made to order, take out was very popular as well. I was surprised by the number of Mexican people who ate there, if that doesn't scream authentic I don't know what does. The only problem I came across was the floor was pretty dirty, enough so my girl wouldn't put her bag down on it. It didn't matter much to me cause I wasn't eating off it. Went here the other day for a late lunch and the place was empty. We were told to take any seat which was nice. The decor is nothing special, but I didn't come for decor...I came for yummy authentic Mexican food and that exactly what I got. They had the guava soda that my bf likes which was a bonus. They coffee was good served fresh and hot. The chips were nothing special, but they were homemade and served with a very yummy salsa. The quesadillas were yum, the beef tongue tacos yum and the chili rellenos weren't too bad. My gripe was that there weren't really any homemade desserts besides flan which was too hot to order since it was just made. Some horchata on the menu would have been nice too!! I use to go to El Mariachi about every month or so when ever I was in the area and in the mood for some decent Mexican food. I began to notice a lack of quality in the last couple of visits, but, this last one really sealed it for me. Here's the list and the food is at the bottom of it. Flies everywhere. Floors were tacky almost greasy. Bathrooms were dirty The tables were barely clean. Salt pepper shakers and hot sauce bottles were sticky. Food was very bland But, here's the real kicker... Our server was walking past our table with a dish of chips. We asked her if she could bring us some as well. Bless her heart, she just reached in with her bare hand and shoveled some into our dish. This place is a hidden gem in a tiny small town shopping strip. It's the best Mexican place in the 10 mile radius. It is spacious with some cool live music by a guy playing the guitar. The food is good, I've especially enjoyed the chorizo quesadillas and chicken gorditas. The restaurant is also byob with complimentary margarita mix! Was there tonight. Service was painfully slow. After being seated and given chips and salsa by the person who seated us we then waited well over 10 minutes for a waitress to come to our table. After ordering nachos and drinks, she came back and delivered the drinks but didn't see her again for 20 minutes. Very unusual as it seemed no one person was waiting on us. Someone brought us our nachos; more on that later. When the waitress finally did come back, she tried to give us more nachos that we had already gotten and eaten?! Someone else brought us our dinner. Then another person got us napkins. Yet another brought us our check. Then someone else brought us another check that wasn't ours! Very odd. Salsa is not what I'd call salsa. It's like a verde sauce. Incredibly watery, thin and bland. I really don't mind if it's thin, but it should taste like something! Chips were ok - not the best I've had. Nachos were only $4.50 so I shouldn't have expected much, but still bad. They had so little cheese it was ridiculous! A little bit more refried like bean sauce. Then a TON of lettuce. Topped off with maybe 10 small cubes of tomatoes the waitress called their pico de gallo! Worst of all - a squeeze tube of sour cream on top - barely enough to add any kind of moisture; that came from all the lettuce. Luckily enough, I ordered the Quesadilla Jefe as recommended by reviewers and it was a very large portion and very, very good. However, they said nothing about it coming with quac. I like quac but I had ordered a side of it unnecessarily and wished I'd had known. Desserts are all purchased elsewhere and not homemade. When I asked about homemade desserts, the woman who asked us if we wanted dessert apparently couldn't speak English. She expected us to point to the preprinted menu and was unprepared when we asked questions. She had to come back to tell us only flan was homemade. I love flan, but since I wasn't thrilled with much else, I decided to skip theirs. We went elsewhere for dessert. If they had a more efficient staff, had more accurate details on their menu, and were a tad more generous with their toppings on food - this could be a really great place. The food is not bad but could be very good if they made a few changes. We started with a nacho platter. The meat was good but they put on too small of a plate which caused all of the toppings to be all over the table. A few shreds of lettuce and no sour cream or guacamole makes for an impotent nacho platter We ordered a side of guacamole but didn't get until half way through the dish. Which brings me to the service which was DEPLORABLE. The staff seems to be running the show. The server, who never introduced herself, and didn't cleared our plates away so the table was a mess. We payed for the food with a table full of dirty plates. Come on! As we were leaving the servers were sitting eating their dinner in the dining room! Our server said goodbye to us with a mouth full of food. PRETTY! They were not rude but poorly trained and that will have to rest on the owner because there is no manager in charge. This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Bucks County. And it arrived just in time to save me from dying of Mexican food withdrawals. Back in 1997 when I first moved to the Doylestown area, I asked about Mexican and everyone pointed me to Poco's. REALLY? Poco's is Mexican food like Rush Limbaugh is a human being -- it's a complete joke that made me sad and disgusted. And since Mexican is my absolute favorite cuisine, I knew I was in trouble in central Bucks. But then El Mariachi came to town and all is right with the food world. Kinda surprised to read about people experiencing bad service. I go there at least twice a month and have since they opened, and I have never once had bad service. Quite the opposite, in fact. Even on busy nights, I've always had attentive, courteous and friendly service. And I've never had anything to eat there that I didn't love. It's absolutely authentic Mexican food -- no pretend stuff out of a ChiChi's jar or frozen nasty burritos. Great flavors, fresh ingredients and plenty of everything to enjoy. Plus they offer Coke bottled in Mexico, meaning sweetened with real sugar and not high fructose corn syrup. Just tastes better. Two thumbs up! read more

Will not go back!!! The chicken fajitas were SO bland! They had absolutely no flavor! I only took a couple of small bites & sent the food back. I asked them to remove it from my bill, since I didn't actually eat my meal. They said no. All they did was offer me salt & ask if I wanted something else to eat. Like I wanted to wait for another meal & just hope that one was better! No manager or anyone came out to apologize. This was just not good. I just spent $45. The kids meals are $7 a piece and it's just a tiny burrito cut in half. No rice, beans or drink. We were the only ones in the restaurant & the waiter never checked on us once so we sat with empty drinks most of the time. They only have green salsa and it's the thick stuff right out of the jar.
