It hurts me to do this. It really does because I have a personal love and care for the daughter of the owners as I knew her in high school and think she's the sweetest thing ever. HOWEVER, their employees are out of line. I've over looked certain things because of my personal bias, and trying to give people grace but I just had a conversation with my younger sister that has me irritated. I'm boycotting El Mariachi and will take my breakfast burrito obsession elsewhere. My younger sister told me that while she was there today the chefs were giving her dirty looks. Now before you think I'm tripping and she's being sensitive, I too have had that experience. Ive probably purchased hundreds of burritos from El Mariachi, and on multiple occasions, especially when I was younger, I remember getting weird, dark glances from the chef, I shit you not, those guys in the back especially this one specific guy, would look at me like he wanted to kill me it was the weirdest thing. So when my sister told me that, they were looking at her weird, along with saying some out of line shit in Spanish I had to come on here. I know people of color get a bad rap for pulling the race card, but when I examine the situation and the fact that my sister and I are consistent PAYING customers who are never rude... I can only think of ONE thing that would set me apart from other customers and result in my sister and I being treated like this... WE'RE B L A C K. Just a little note for the El Mariachi employees just because you see an "ella negrita" doesn't mean she doesn't understand Spanish. My boyfriend is Mexican, my sister and I both took Spanish in high school, not only did we pay attention but we also have lot of Mexican friends who teach us the language ANDDD I grew up in La so y'all might want to be careful about what you say cabron. ALSO I'm a registered nurse who deals with a majority Mexican population you can best believe my patients and families teach me Spanish too! Futhermore, the burritos weren't even good! Anyway...... Looking at other reviews it seems as though I'm not the only one who has had bad service here. I'm all for immigrants coming to the US and making it for themselves as I am a child of West African immigrants and I have a personal love for my Mexicanos who are doing the damn thing and working their asses off HOWEVER I WILL NOT tolerate disrespect and I WILL say something about it. If you're coming through here, and especially if you're black. Don't come here. You're better off eating a lunchable from Walmart. Or better yet, make the drive to a black owned business where your personage and dollar will be respected. I want to like and support this place, I really do. My friends and I ordered carne asada fries here throughout high school and have visited a few times a couple of years after. But the recent interaction I had with their staff was offensive. The food, it feels as if they beef you up (no pun intended) with so much meat that you miss out on other parts of a burrito (pico de gallo, cilantro, rice and beans) or nachos in my case. Nachos were 20% meat with 10% melted cheese on top of 70% tortilla chips. Though seasoned nicely, I do believe Tacos and Beer (off E. 6th St) offer a more tasty and colorful touch that El Mariachi simply skimps out on. We came when their tvs (that displayed their menus) were blank. I haven't visited in a couple of years and wanted to see what my options were, and was simply told by the young man at the front when I asked if he had to-go or paper menus to read, "No we don't have any, you don't know what you want?". When I ordered nachos, I asked if I could pay extra for pico de gallo to be added on top instead of the lukewarm guacamole they serve. He charged me extra, and when the time came to pick up my order, there was no pico de gallo. We asked about it to which we were answered with "No, the nachos don't come with pico de gallo". Didn't ask for a refund or demand for them to 'make it right' as they clearly didn't want to serve it regardless. It felt super transactional, and we didn't feel like they cared if our order was correct. On top of that, it took the cashier 15-20 minutes to pour us our Pineapple Agua Fresca :/ not because he was busy, but because he 'forgot'. This will be the last time I support this place as there wasn't an ounce of kindness or empathy from anyone who was working there. Don't try the chicken in anything. It's not good at all. I had previously rated this place for its breakfast items. Breakfast is hard to mess up so it was a good review. However, since that last review, I have ate here 3 times for lunch and dinner. Their food is not very authentic tasting. Its actually pretty bland. Its always very expensive each time we go. We never get drinks either... and always spend at minimum $35 for 3 people. When the owner is there... the service is great and food is a little better, but, when she is not there, there is a younger girl that works there in her place and she is very unprofessional and kind of comes off like she doesn't want to be bothered. Checking out the menu, I could tell that this was Mexican food not necessarily intended for Mexicans. The prices were steep, and the meat selection was basic. The restaurant is clean, well decorated, and the staff is friendly. I ordered a California Burrito with Guacamole and Sour Cream. It was huge, and had lots of cheese! But the taste wasn't there. Specifically the carne asada, and the fries. They were kind of old and bland. Couldnt even taste the guacamole. I ate most of it because I was famished from searching for places that are open when they say they should be. My Wife got a BRC Burrito. She wasn't impressed. Just a standard BRC. She only ate half of it. She also ordered a Chicken Taco. She liked it better than the burrito, and had no complaints. We also shared a #2 Combo that was a Tostada, 2 Rolled Tacos, and a Shredded Beef Taco. They were all just basic fare. Not horrible but not that great. Just something OK to eat to fill up on. They advertise that they use only 100% Vegetable oil in their food. It shows. You can taste it with every bite, and thats not necessarily a good thing. The Horchata was pretty good. Not too sweet, but tasteful. Wifey got a small Sprite, not really a fan of paying 50-cents for a small refill when I just spent $30 on food that wasn't that great. Probably wont be back. read more

I was at the Cabazon outlets late one night and my stomach needed food, STAT! I turn to Yelp [of course] and minutes later I find myself at El Mariachi. The staff here is very accommodating and I felt very welcomed. Also, I appreciate how clean and efficient they are. I noticed the employees cleaned after every customer. One employee even cleaned the salsa bar after she clocked out and was on her way out. Awesome! Unfortunately, however, their food was just okay. Though the food wasn't magnificent it will hit the spot when one is as hungry as I was. Specifically, I found my carne asada really bland.
