This place has the best Mexican food ever! My family and I keep on talking about it. It was that good! We ordered guacamole with our complementary chips and salsa. The guacamole was AMAZING! It was delicious, it was chunky and flavorful! It was easily the best guacamole I have ever had! Our chips were also very good, they tasted homemade. For dinner I ordered the Sopes. This was the first time I tried Sopes and I enjoyed it very much. Also their rice was incredible, it tasted very authentic. The only downside is that the restaurant is very small and the wait staff is all over the place. It took as a while to order our meal because the waiters were so busy. 4 solid stars. Mainly for those killer corn tortillas they make in-house. Stopped in for some dinner once we got into Amarillo and it was so worth it. It's a small place with just a few tables, super clean, quaint, kitschy decor, and great Mexican tunes. Started out with the large guac. So good. The chips weren't my favorite, but the guac made up for them. We ate it all. My wife took part in the textbook chile relleno. Great flavor and plenty of melty cheeses. The rice and beans that accompanied were great as well. The batter on the chile was a little different and had some interesting flavors. I got a smattering of items from the a la carta menu -- marinated chicken burrito, frijoladores, and a barbacoa Gordita. The Gordita was a little gross. The beef tasted just like pot roast and had little flavor. The burrito, however, was wonderful. The chicken was stellar the the layer of beans on the flour tortilla ruled. For the price of $25 for everything, it's a huge win. I'd highly recommend it if you're in the area. read more

Muy delicioso! A much needed authentic Mexican hole-in-the-wall stop on the drive through Amarillo. My wife and I were initially served chips and salsa and a homemade bean dip (whole beans). I was impressed at the little touches on the salsa and bean dip - freshly chopped cilantro. We ordered 3 TACOS (awesome) and a veggie quesadilla (boring). The hand-rolled corn tortillas were the best I've ever had. Both were served with your typical Mexican style rice and beans. No lie, the area looked a bit shady and most of the surrounding businesses have bars on the windows - but I trusted Other Yelpers and it did not disappoint. read more

The best Mexican food I have ever had in my entire life (and I've been to Mexico). We over ordered, but I wasn't upset at all, The left overs gave us a second chance at food that just made happy. While we were there we ate entirely too much, but I blame the sublime guacamole for the lack of self control. Maybe 10 minutes off the highway, for me it was well worth the stop. Bad customer service even though there were three waitresses and only three tables. This place also charges a 8% "produce inflation charge" that the waitresses and menu fail to mention. The only way I noticed the charge was through my receipt which I had to ask for. Very deceptive , I will never dine at this establishment again. read more

We stopped at this unassuming Mexican restaurant in Amarillo because the reviews were so good on Yelp. So glad we did. Most amazing food. Even the red and green sauces were made there, no canned or frozen and reheated food. We had Nopal (grilled cactus) as an appetizer just to say we had it. I did not do well with it as it was kind of slimy on the inside. The dinners we had were yummy. I like to try different thing. I tried Tacos Birria, I recommend it highly. Hubs had chicken enchiladas, which he always has. Said they were the best ones he had ever had. Even the refried beans were good, I acutally ate them all! It wasn't just heated up canned refried beans. And we had the sweetest waitresses. They were right there if we needed anything. My husband and I were craving Mexican food while visiting Palo Duro Canyon. We were pleasantly surprised by the authenticity, quality, and service at El Manantial! The chips and salsa were complimentary. We loved the beans and chips! We split the three meat Jalisco plate which was the perfect amount of food. The meat was well seasoned, excellent veggies, and homemade tortillas (corn and flour). We also got two draft beers which were chilled perfectly and the best compliment to our tasty meal. Thankfully the restaurant had more Mexican than Tex Mex leanings and took us back to our travels to our neighbor in the south. The customer service was also excellent. We stopped for lunch while passing through from Oklahoma to Phoenix. The place is in an industrial area but fine. Obviously a locals joint which we really enjoy!!! The salsa, chips and beans are as everyone says very good! We had the Queso with grilled beef. The cheese was a little runny but the flavor was great!!! We shared the 3 flautas beef, chicken and potato. They were ok, but we really liked the 3 tacos Barbacoa, pork and chicken. All were good, our fav was the pork! The wonderful guacamole, lime and salsa was definitely a great addition to the tacos along with the fresh homemade corn tortillas. The service was good very friendly. I also got little pineapple empanada that were at the register on the way out and was pleasantly surprised at their taste1st. Immediately, we had chips and salsa on the table and ordered their queso with corn and peppers. Sooo gooey, I ate it until the last bite. I ended up with an ceviche type dish with octopus. The sadness came when I didn't see much octopus in the dish; it was very scarce with small pieces scattered in mostly cucumber. This place is clearly popular, there was a wait when we arrived, but we were seated within a few minutes. The queso is a sad saucer of milky substance, exactly room temp. If you bring this up, it gets microwaved and remains on your bill. The enchiladas do not come with a Tex-mex gravy, but a thin, flavorless tomato sauce. The beef and chicken are both shredded and stewed, and this is the only thing you will taste when you take a bite, and it's not that flavorful. Also, I've had more shredded chicken enchiladas than I can count, and I have never bitten into a bone, except here. It was gross and put me off eating anymore. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because the coupon on Yelp that is offered that is buy $20 food and get $10 off is for an online deal where you pay before you go.
