I love having the opportunity to visit different restaurants tasteful. On Sunday March 2nd I started my new adventure into a restaurant out of town, i had heard about this rest in Naguavo. It all started very well offer you a pretty good fish broth. everything changed in an instant, we ordered appetizers and to my surprise everything was from costco. Then we ordered the main course, my wife ordered mofongo stuffed with seafood and I ordered seafood stuffed fish. For starters it took nearly an hour to bring us food, mofongo The sauce tastes like BBQ definitely hurt the taste of seafood, my fish looked like it was butter sauce but it was rare uy. I never second guess when it comes to eating well but this restaurant is definitely a let down. read more

Excellent place to eat and taste all around Caribbean food; fresh seafood. Located an in amazing ocean front viewing Vieques island... It has its own parking underneath the building with lots of places to sit. Inside a/c or if your prefer to be at the outside surrounding balcony... You must get there soon by the afternoon time, before 2:30 recommended because you might be doing a line to get a table... We were a group of 5 and we ordered lobster, shrimps, mofongo, plantains and everything was awesome. Although we were there by 2:15pm a Sunday we did had to wait almost 20 minutes so we decided to have appetizers which was great also.. You must make a stop an eat at Makito's if you are at the east coast of Puerto Rico; You will not regret. Salads were very fresh as well as the seafood ordered. Our plates came hot and the waitress were very kind and making sure our drinks were always filled if needed. The prices are fluctuating between the $15.00 to highest 50.00 for lobsters depending on the size. After you dinner or lunch you can enjoy the surrounding area with small craft shops and music at the small plaza. Children's can gather around with the view of boats and sailboats while you can sit and enjoy an ice cream. read more

The drinks were great, the appetizer of shrimp with cocktail sauce , while not conventional, was fresh and very good. After that, we waited probably over a half hour for the entrées. My wife and I were going to share lobster tails, our daughter got fish of the day, son got some kind of fried shrimp. The only way I can describe the bite of I had of the lobster would be "garbage fish". I spit it out. Tried our daughter's coconut fritters tasted like "playdoe, but playdoe tastes better," according to my wife. Our daughter said that her fish was "edible but nothing to write home about,". The service was very nice, patient with our total useless Spanish. I just don't think that makes up for the horrible food. We had a feeling we'd be playing "food roulette" by coming here. I think a good summery would be: if you're afraid to order dessert, it probably wasn't a very good restaurant. I read more

The town is quite tranquillo and we really recommend going out with Paco on his Monkey Island Boat tours. We do not recommend eating at El Makito...that is unless you like to wait over 2 hours for food and then get treated poorly by the waitstaff. The food when it came was good but this place needs to do something about their service. Really a shame. It's not cheap either! read more

Stopped here for lunch on my way back home to Arroyo. Excellent service, Had a parcha frappe and ordered grouper in criollo sauce, with fritters. I am happy to say the food was very tasty and generous proportions. I just spent a summer on Long Island, NY, where there are some fantastic out-of-the-way places to get fresh fish. So, I have high standards when it comes to eating at a seafood restaurant. I would not hesitate to recommend El Makito, and plan to return soon. read more

Maybe I should give them another star for trying but this place is well over-rated and service is so laid back they tend to make their patron wait too long for food. I guess they must have some specialties they can wave their flags to, but what we had was at best a mix review, from mediocre to OK. Their mofongo is OK, nothing spectacular, the fish filet was "frozen fresh" and it tasted like a filet of sole, literally!!! They do have a spectacular view of Naguabo waterfront but that's about it. It looks like a good place for weekend nights socializing more than a fine dining establishment. Do yourself a favor, when you go to Naguabo waterfront go across the street, I don't want to give the name here but it's way better (someone commented it's the same owner... !?!?). Anyway, try El Makito out but ask for the house specialties first! I asked if they had a "fresh catch" of the day and they told me Puerto Rican law demands that fish be frozen for 3 days before selling/cooking. What??? This is SO NOT TRUE!!! I've been to other places where the fish is shown to me in a platter before cooking and it is OFF-THE-HOOK FRESH!!! AND SMOKING DELICIOUS!!! Believe me, I know the difference! Stayed in Palmas and ventured out to this place on a recommendation from a few others. Sunday evening at dusk, the drive out there was on a road lined with all sorts of happenin' local places that were, well,...sketchy at best. We almost turned around and came home before we got there (should have, actually) but we ventured on. We got a table outside overlooking the water ( though admittedly, would be better if we had arrived before sunset!) and ordered drinks. Those were good. We ordered the grilled lobster tail ($50!--but they don't tell you that it comes with TWO...so really, it is plenty to share along with an appetizer) and the shrimp mofongo. Thankfully, our very kind waiter did allude to the fact that we would be waiting a VERY long time for the entrees, by strongly suggesting that we order an appetizer "so you aren't sitting here waiting and waiting with nothing to eat"... We declined and were very patient for the 45+ minutes that it took for our food to arrive. We REALLY wanted to like the food! I mean, really!...but, sadly, the very expensive generous portion of lobster tails had NO flavor. At all. No salt, pepper, lemon, seasoning...nothing. Just a pile of barely sautéed onions and peppers in a lot of oil heaped on top. The shrimp part of the mofongo was mildly tasty, but it turns out we are probably just not fans of mofongo (that is, if this restaurant's version of it is representative) bc it epwas also extremely bland and flavorless. Sad...bc we wanted to like this place for its original dishes and local flare...but for an bill that totaled $100 for two people (1 drink and 1 entree each) I just can't recommend it. The view in daylight might have increased my rating to two stars...and our waiter was very friendly, but that is not enough to make it worth the strange experience to me... read more

we are locals and try to avoid the malecon on weekends because ppl love it! but we had guests who had dietary considerations and they wanted something special. and so we took them yesterday sunday on a very busy day between new years and three kings and here are our observations...the new management has really improved the food the service the wait time the servers the ambience. don't know if you can make reservations but the line was all the way down the stairs but they kept the free samples and wonderful fish soup coming so it wasn't so bad. it is the priciest of all the places here but you get what you pay for; great scenery great setting and air conditioning if you prefer. the one thing that bothered me was that i recommended it because i saw that they advertise having an elevator and they don't. don't know if they removed it or even plan to have one but i and several other ppl with ambulatory issues were forced to traverse the two flights of stairs with only one side of the stairs with railings that all the waiting clung too. made it oh so difficult to get up and down them.please either remove that you have one or announce when you really will get one! read more

The restaurant is located in a nice area but the parking was an issue. Once we got inside we were treated fairly and promptly. Problems started after the order was taken. We never saw our waiter for approximately 30-40 minutes. After our food was served...he did not even asked if we needed anything else and departed the area not to be seen for the remainder of the afternoon. I could occasionally see him talking to the door man and to another waiter at the entrance of the restaurant. After we finished eating we waited for another 30 minutes to get our check-out and I have to talk to the door man (who happens to be the owner) and asked for the waiter that showed up at our table with an attitude. I explained in a very courteous manner that he neglected us (he did not even offered us water with our meals). He got belligerent and promptly was joined by the owner who started to justify his actions. I decided to leave since I was not getting anywhere with them and paid for the food. Another waiter saw me upset and asked me if anything was wrong and after I explained the situation...he stated that the waiter that served us was the owner's son. My message to the owner is that customers like me are the ones that bring business to the restaurant because we are the ones that bring the money...not your son nor you. read more
