I ordered the shrimp monfongo and it was delicious. The shrimp was well seasoned and the sauce was packed with flavor. My wife ordered the steak with a mixed rice and that was good as well. If you can get here, you must go here. The food is amazing, the seafood is fresh, the service is good. There were four of us and no one left disappointed with their food. The only thing I'd flag is that you have to walk up stairs to get to the restaurant, if you have disabilities that would hinder your mobility, this will be a problem. But the food is amazing and if you sit outside facing the water, especially in the late afternoon, you'll see a beautiful sunset. read more

Beautiful view...which is nice since you'll be waiting a while! Came by for lunch on a weekday and it was fairly quiet, just a few other tables. We ordered drinks and some pastelillos/fritters which came out at a good pace. We tried the chapin (trunk fish), lobster and the land crabs, the chapin was the best one, the others were just okay. We also ordered three main dishes, two grilled lobsters and the lobster in garlic sauce. We probably waited ~45 minutes for these dishes which seemed odd as there weren't many other people there. The view is nice, but can't make up for a 45 minutes wait at an empty restaurant! The lobster in garlic sauce had good flavor, but was slightly over cooked which is a shame for $25. The grilled lobsters were kept in the shell which wasn't expected, but probably helped keep the juices in, these ones were nice and succulent. They said they were out of the 1lb $30 lobsters so they served us the next smallest ones which came out to $43/each, which seems a bit steep for such a casual place. For sides we tried the mofongo which was good, not dry, the tostones which unfortunately were dry and the coconut arepas which were tasty, but almost a little too sweet for lunch. The servers were nice, but a bit absent, we had to go into the restaurant a few times to ask for things and pay the bill so we could eventually leave! AWESOME FOOD!!! You will be glad you went to El Makito to enjoy the super-tasty food, big portions, and terrific view overlooking the sea and sunset during dinner time. My wife and our four kids ate there on March 11th 2016 on our last night of our Puerto Rico vacation before flying back to Texas. We got to the restaurant around 5:30pm on Friday evening and it wasn't crowded at all. Parking was easy on the street, or it looks like they have parking under the restaurant (it is a 2nd story restaurant), but we found plenty of parking on the street. We were seated right away, but it did take a while for a server to come around and ask us for drink orders. I had the mixed-seafood "salad" which is more of a stir-fry... it was delicious! Order it with "tomato sauce and a little bit of medium-spicy creole"... it was outstanding! Very juicy, very flavorful, and LOTS of seafood (not a skimpy portion like some restaurants have). My wife had the shrimp in garlic, and kids had either chicken nuggets or battered-and-fried shrimp. The kids plates were generous portions, too. I highly recommend getting a mojito. It was a tall glass, very flavorful, and they were generous with the rum. We'll be back! The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was because the service was slow at times. The food came quickly, but there was quite a delay in taking our initial drink order, and then an even longer delay in getting the check and then paying the check. I'm writing this review on behalf of my family who all thought this place served the best seafood in Puerto Rico. We randomly stopped here for lunch because we saw the restaurant up on the hill with great views of the ocean. The prices were consistent with the other restaurants we've been to on the island. Previous reviewers mentioned that they waited a really long time for their food, but there were 9 people in our party and we received our food in a timely manner. This place has an amazing view. Be sure to sit outside. The food looks expensive when you glance at the menu but what they don't tell you is that an entree is enough for two people. We should have shared but instead brought almost a whole meal home. The food was some of the best we've had in Puerto Rico. Everything was delicious. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The waitress (even though she admitted she wasn't fluent) insisted on using English while serving us. That right there made the experience even better. We have came to this restaurant and have been sitting down for over 2 hours and we have still have not gotten our food and we ONLY ORDER ONE DISH OF FOOD and there has been two other people that have came after us and have already and and left their empty dishes at the table also to include the waiter did not bring us any water or forks and knives we have finally got the lobster we ordered but it is cold and the lobster is slightly Frozen in the middle and smells like ammonia to include that it is frozen in the middle means they really haven't been cooking this dish for overs for 2 hours I recommend not to go to this restaurant unless you have lots and lots of time to waste or if you like frozen lobster read more
