After a few weeks traveling in Spain, I was in need of a juicy burger and Tommy Mel's hit the spot! As with most restaurants in Spain, do not expect a early dinner or late lunch as times vary versus traditional eating hours outside of Europe. The hours on Yelp may be off, as I showed up around five only to find it closed and not opening for a few more hours. With that said, the restaurant is centrally located in Seville, which makes it not too much of a jaunt if staying in the city center. The inside of the restaurant boasts that traditional 50's vibe that most Americans have become accustomed too, although everything was clean and there was plenty of seating. Staff was decent, but do not expect superb service, which is fine by me as I have gotten used to the way most restaurant staff in Europe operate. The menu boats plenty of good American diner food, typical hot dogs, burgers, fries, shakes, et cetera and prices are very affordable. They also offer some tasty alcoholic beverages, which I had a sip of one and it was on point!! Ended up ordering a cheeseburger with avocado and a side of fries, which took no time at all to arrive. The burger was cooked to perfect (medium), and had a nice grill top taste to it, which maintaining its juiciness. As for the side of fries, they portioned them perfectly as some restaurants serve you way too many, and as for the taste, I would chalk them up to subpar in taste and crispness. Worth a stop in the end? Well it depends, I would not necessarily go out of the way to ignore the local goods to eat at Tommy Mel's, but I would suggest it if you need a burger and fries fix.

The execution and decor of the place are seamless - from the 50s American rock-n-roll on the jukebox to the bellhop waiter/waitress outfits, you'd be forgiven if you thought you had walked straight into Mel's diner in Hollywood (or in Happy Days). Service was friendly and prompt - they let us in pretty close to the 4:30p afternoon siesta/break and didn't rush us at all. Food was a decent approximation of a diner, but not a true US diner experience. I got the chicken tacos, which I found too fatty (I noticed that seems to be a trend with Spanish chicken, served mostly dark meat and fatty - really didn't work with the richness of guac, cheese, etc) for me. My wife enjoyed her burger - solid if a touch overcooked. Fries were great and props for having the Heinz ketchup. Fun place to visit and relatively unique for Spain. Not a bad option if you are craving some American-style food, if not quite quintessential US diner greasy spoon awesomeness.
