Came here when weather was bad and it was late so I was the only person in restaurant. Owner gave me some recommendations since it was my first time there and I had the chicken quesadilla. It was great and loved the salsa! Here is the special part... that shook me. I told him how happy I was that I stopped in, especially since it was my first time, and how good the food was, not thinking anything I said was special. "Glad I stopped in, the food is very good." He immediately turned around, walked away, saying thank you to me. I thought it a little strange he didn't make eye contact. A few feet away, before taking the next customer's order whom just walked in, he paused, wiped a few tears from his eye, and quietly said to himself--though I could still barely hear it--that he was happy to be working today. He didn't know I heard him, and I didn't acknowledge it since his back was turned and not wanting to get emotional myself. Never in my decades on this planet has one of my compliments hit an owner this way. This place is truly special and who knows what this owner is going through but I hope they have many more years of success and good food. If I ever go back to Ann Arbor, I will always stop here for food now. I just wish I lived closer. This place is a gem. Update/Edit: I forgot to mention like others have, this man was in a dress shirt and tie and looking immaculate. I was in a dirty hoody coming in from the wet cold and I probably smelled a little from a long ass day and this man treated me with more respect than some in my own family. He called me sir and tbhen by my first name when he learned it for my order. He greeted and said goodbye to the 2nd customer by their name and they looked like a regular. Gotta say I'm beyond impressed and I don't give out 5 stars lightly. I truly hope my review can convince more people to come in. We loved our dinner at El Limon! My son had the shawarma burrito and loved it. I had the "wet" chicken burrito with mango habanero sauce. It wasn't too spicy, more like a spicy/sweet flavor. The homemade guacamole was amazing! It was super fresh and was an excellent add on. The queso was just "okay," though. It was a little watery and could use a little more flavor. The two gentlemen working there were so nice! It is clear that they take pride in delivering high quality, fresh Mexican food. We highly recommend El Limon and we will definitely return! read more

It was a Saturday night, and we since Mexican food is a favorite cuisine around here, we wanted to try a new place. My husband found El Limón when searching for newer spots, and we decided it was worth a visit. Tucked away just off Plymouth Rd, El Limón offers fresh and delicious options served up by friendly and hospitable staff. They saw our little one and immediately got a melamine plate and plastic cutlery out. I picked the Cajun shrimp taco dinner, and the portions were generous. I had planned to share, but neither of my companions likes too much spice, so I got the meal all to myself. I was able to take some of it home for a repeat the next day! The staff was very welcoming and let our kiddo try a sample of mango smoothie. I saw the sugar rush as their eyes widened with the first sip, and their review was that it was good! Spectacularly delicious habanero chicken "bowl" (really a plate). I asked them to add cauliflower bc it was also on the menu and seemed like a potentially tasty combo. Oh man it was just so good. We went on a recommendation from Chat Gpt! Ai got it wrong. We stopped on a long drive since it was close to an exit. Our salads that we ordered sounded really good. We sat for 20 minutes then went to inquire about our order and were asked "are you in a hurry?" I replied yes. and then we waited another 10 minutes then had to get in line to get a refund. (Behind another customer who needed a waiting too long refund). Also, while we sat waiting, we saw a kitchen staff member decide to take her vape break in her car in the parking lot, with her kitchen gloves on, during a big lunch rush. Really regretted the stop. El Limon is the first Mexican/Middle-Eastern fusion restaurant I've ever seen and was intrigued enough to visit. We stopped in for a late lunch and got the following: Chicken Shawarma Burrito ($8.40) - This is a decently hefty burrito, but mostly filled with long grain rice. Even though the menu offers either Spanish rice or cilantro-lime, this rice was neither. It was on the drier side, similar to what you would see in a Middle-Eastern rice dish. There was only a very small amount of chicken shawarma in the burrito; it was pretty moist but was in larger chunks that were not shaved from a spit like a traditional shawarma. No crispy edges. There was some slightly spicy jalapeno toum in the burrito that was the only source of moistness - not nearly enough to counteract the dryness of the rice. This restaurant really needs a salsa bar. A typical chicken shawarma sandwich works because of the chicken/pickles being slathered in toum - for this burrito rendition, there is way too much rice for the amount of sauce. There was some iceburg lettuce, tomato and corn that added some freshness and the burrito was grilled on the flat top on one side, resulting in a nice crispy edge. A small amount of mostly unmelted shredded cheese rounded out the dish. It seems to be a common theme here that the cheese isn't melted. (3/5) Grape Leaves Falafel El Limon Bowl ($12.95) - I was expecting a little too much from this dish - I thought it would be like deconstructed grape leaves, with maybe a leaf on the bottom, rice/falafel/sauce in the middle, and another grape leaf on top. But instead, this was essentially Middle-Eastern rice with pinto beans and some falafels and grape leaves on the side. The rice was the same rice that was in the burrito. The grapes leaves were not great - the rice mixture inside was extremely mushy. The falafel were fried well but nothing special; seemed to me like a food service falafel. They were topped with some cilantro and tahini. There were some peppers and chips on the top, which, along with the beans, I guess makes this Mexican fusion? (3/5) El Limon is certainly an interesting concept, but probably one I wouldn't go to again. I wouldn't really consider this a fusion restaurant either - the amount of fusion is pretty minimal. Normally I wouldn't bother reviewing someplace I just popped in because it looked open and had Mexican food; but the number of 5 star reviews makes me wonder if it's the same restaurant? First, the atmosphere is okay considering it's in a strip mall; not great, not terrible. The menu was a surprise, as we were expecting Mexican, but it is Mexican/MidEastern. You order at the counter, and they bring your food to the table. Being familiar with both cuisines, I had no interest in combining the two. Vegetarian options were limited to cold dry rice, barely cooked red and green peppers, hard falafel, bland grape leaves, soft (no hard) shells. The tacos consisted of dry ground beef on top of soft shells. I asked for sour cream and salsa to jazz it up, I received a tablespoon of each item. The guy working was nice and friendly; not sure how so many reviewers mention 'the owner'. was that him? No clue. Good place to grab lunch or dinner near north campus. Stopped here to dine in. It's located around the side of the strip mall. Inside is really quiet, clean, and they play really good music. The gentlemen working there are extremely sweet and are dressed up in nice shirts with neckties, and I appreciated that. The food was great, we ordered a habanero chicken bowl and chicken fajita bowl. The bowls came with chicken, veggies, beans, rice, and some tortilla chips. It was delicious. If all I ordered was the "bowl" this would be a 4 or 5 star review without even trying. Unfortunately the nachos were a big miss. We spoke about nachos all day my friend hyped them up, I hadn't eaten food in about 13 hours and alas my meal was mildly ruined by the nachos. Maybe I am uncultured but I've never had nachos where the cheese wasn't melted. I actually got up and gave the nachos back to the server to just heat it up so that the cheese could melt.
