I normally like this place, but just had a pretty bad experience. I've really been looking forward to a massage. I'm pregnant and scheduled a 90 prenatal massage. When we started, she barely greeted me and didn't ask me any questions or if I had any preferences. She only asked me if I had been there before. She proceeded with the lightest touch massage I've ever had. I asked four times for more pressure. The fourth time she laughed. Then she gave me a 90 minute LEGS ONLY massage! What?! I think a total of five minutes was spent on any body part besides my legs. My back was virtually left out and she did not once touch my feet. She barely touched my shoulders, which is what I was really there for. And when she did touch my shoulder, she was pressing so hard on my bones, which she had to have been thinking were not by the way she was pressing on them. When I went to pay, she was at the front desk so on the front desk, girl, the one with the shorter hair (working Friday at 3:40), asked me how it was, I said it was OK in a clearly dissatisfied tone but what more could I say with the therapist standing right by us? She didn't acknowledge that I didn't have a good experience and he proceeded to charge me $170. My masseuse had strong hands and I like a firm massage style, he was able to get into some knots in my body and relieve muscle tensions. Every therapist I've had has been incredible, but yesterday I had a spiritual experience with Boom- she was worked my body in ways I have never had done before. It was exceptional. I have come to El Leon Spa several times and my last visit was more than likely my last. My swedish massage was not relaxing. It felt more Thai than Swedish. The masseuse was aggressive even for things like putting the sheet over me. The masseuse pulled my braids twice and bumped into my head a couple of times. When she flipped me over she asked how I felt and I said "okay", she responded by asking me a bunch of questions about my prior massage experiences. It felt like she was questioning me. At this point, the massage was definitely not relaxing. When it was time to pay, the lady at the front asked me how my experience was and I was very candid. I booked a couples massage so my boyfriend (who traditionally prefers rigorous Thai massages) could come along. Stepping into El Leon feels like instantly being transported outside of LA. We both received the El Leon massage which is a combination of Thai, Swedish and a bit of deep tissue work. My masseuse spent a lot of time really working through problem areas and also stretching me out. For me this was not the kind of massage where you can fall into a relaxing/sleepy state. If I could give this place a 0 star rating I would. I booked couples massages for Valentine's Day and called that day to say I was running 10 minutes late, for which they told me this was not a problem. I arrived and they told me they had given away the couples massage room because it was first come first serve even though I had booked that room in advance. The woman at the front desk couldn't answer any of my questions and was not apologetic at all. Absolutely horrendous customer service. I've loved coming here for years for traditional Thai massage. I've had many different massage therapists and its obvious they are all well trained. They apply just the right amount of pressure and pay close attention to your specific needs. I had hip surgery a few years ago so that hip is much less flexible than the other, but I always feel safe during the massage because the therapist stretches just until the perfect point of resistance. For the Thai massage they give you a large t-shirt and Thai fisherman pants to put on. Like other Thai massage places, the treatment rooms are separated by curtains, so you can hear some murmurs from other treatment areas but mostly you hear the relaxing music and the burbling fountain. The spa always has a light incense smell and the whole vibe is relaxing. Before Covid, they used to give you hot tea and fruit after your massage and I definitely miss that. But the prices are very reasonable and I like that I can book online, plus I always find meter parking on Beverly. read more

It is a quiet and comfortable place that makes you feel like you definitely took a step away from the hustle of Los Angeles. The staff was awesome. Not only the masseuse; however, also the lovely guy at the front desk and the lady that was running around doing various tasks around the spa. We both had amazing massages. We truly have ranked these massages right up near the top, with some of the best we have ever had. They are just fantastic. As soon as you walk into El Leon Spa, It's serenity and tranquility. You immediate let go of the 20 lbs on the shoulder of the outside world you carried in with you. From dimmed lighting, the big water fountains, candles and antiques all around, tranquility music playing. As soon as you are in, you are leaded to your "tent". They don't have rooms, It's like a small warehouse and tents are built around it. Your massage bed are awaiting for your inside, behind the pretty curtains of the tent. In another section, futons are set side to side with curtains separating each futon massage space. They don't have a steam room, jacuzzi but yet they do have a small portable sauna outside their little Garden but it's extra $ to use it. They completed my massage with mint tea and a few pieces of fruits. (I didn't eat the fruit because it looked more like a decoration rather then edible. ) What do I think of the massage?? --- She did a good job. Although I asked for more strength, it wasn't enough, BUT she hits some good pressure points. The massages are from $75-$105 an hour massage. The massage is not worth the price. For more the half that price I can get a darn good massage with my favorite Masseuses. Luckily I had purchased a Bloomspot deal for $39. My therapist was rigorous during our 90 min traditional thai session. I enjoyed it throughly and learned a few tips myself for when I go back to my studio in Boston. Best massage I've ever had by Bea. No pressure to talk during, I wore their traditional Thai loose outfit. With my trauma history, so much safer and nicer than being naked under a towel. You laid on a bed on the floor which is also far superior than an American massage table. Peaceful and dim and wooden fixtures inside with water fountain white noise. The curtains remain open during a massage. She got my whole body and focused on my problem areas which were my neck and shoulders. I could feel it was thorough. She placed a cloth over your face which relieves the anxiety and awkwardness of wondering where to look. They make sure to pay attention to your pain points that you write in the intake form. I just wish I could communicate better with the masuse so I could ask her what she felt and sensed in my body. The warm towels before and after were so nice. She stretches you out too, similar to a physical therapist. I thought I could only handle medium pressure based on past experience but hard felt releasing from her. Did a couples massage with my boyfriend for our anniversary. We wanted an upscale spa experience so we could relax. The spa itself is beautiful. The furnishings and interior are eclectic and gorgeous. That was pretty much the extent of the luxury of our experience. We were told our booth wasn't ready when we got there (and we were actually running 5 minutes late) and had to wait for about 20 minutes. Nobody offered us water or anything like that. I'm not trying to sound entitled but when you're paying over $250 for an hour long experience I kind of expected some basic things like that which you get at most spas. We both received a massage that was kind of mediocre, I left with a bruised neck and my boyfriend got singed with a hot stone that was too hot. I had been really looking forward to relaxing in the spa afterwards which is what most of the reviews I saw raved about but instead we were pointed to the exit. I tipped 20% which I feel is a baseline for any service and left paying close to $300 for a massage that would have been $40 at any parlor up the street from where I live. Overall felt like a waste of money and time. Would not return here and I don't plan on paying extra for any more "spa experiences" in the future. Not worth it. read more

Gorgeous authentic Thai design inside, quiet but with soothing music and running water for sound. I usually go for deep tissue but had a Swedish today. The massage was amazing! I feel so relaxed. After my massage the therapist took me to a lounge area with tea, water and fruit of my own to post treatment relax in a tranquil, private elegant spot. My friend purchased a living social deal as a birthday gift so I made the 30 minute trek in traffic to get a massage. I upgraded by paying $20 extra for a deep tissue massage, big mistake. There as 2 parts to my massage. First was a 30 minute hand & foot massage massage in the open area. It was awful. As I was getting the worst hand massage of my life, I was praying that a different person would be giving me the deep tissue massage, no luck. The deep tissue massage may have been the worst I've had in my life. It was so bad I was truly counting the minutes for it to be over, I thought about ending it early as I hate wasting my time. When it was over and I had to go to the cashier to pay the additional $20 plus the obligatory tip they shouldn't have asked me about when running my card. When asked how my massage was, I couldn't bring myself to fake a lie. I told him I felt she was never trained in deep tissue, I really could give a better massage myself without any training (this part I said to myself) but he immediately offered me a few makeup massage session, I said no thank you but I wanted to be fair to him, maybe they do have better trained masseuses so I might go back. Incapacitated for days now following the brutal massage. Am in so much pain two weeks later, i can't get out of bed. I asked for a deep tissue massage, and to my surprise the therapist got up on me and started, performing a very brutal foot digging on my lower back and upper back. I wasn't sure if that pressure was meant to feel like a bit of suffocation while on my back so I asked him to stop and then he proceeded to go towards my lumbar with his feet. I asked him to stop again and use his hands instead but his response was that I was very tight in my muscles, and that I was tense; even though, I was not! This was a leisure massage, to wrap up my week with a treat and meant to be relaxing. I honestly feel this guy was just taking shortcuts by using his feet instead of his hands. I tend to have dense and strong muscles, so I'm not sensitive, but this was something else. He must have confused muscle tissue with tightness; but regardless his feet shouldn't have been used. Deep tissue is something I always get and I've gotten it here a couple of times by hands. Nowhere in the fine print, nor on the menu did it specify standing on me. I hope this did not permanently damage me. Although they've refunded me, I'm worried about my health because of this situation. I've lost days now and incurred costly services to help me get by while I get better. El León has my contact details, should they wish to help me take out the trash since I can't get up myself ! i'm not sure what hurts more the disappointment or the actual physical pain. read more

I got the 1.5 hour Thai Massage and I can not wait to go back and try one of the multi hour "rituals" offered. The space itself has a peaceful energy and reminds me of some of the higher end spas in Chiang Mai. The decor, music and vibe puts you at peace before the massage even begins. The staff were all friendly and my therapist was fantastic. This was easily the best Thai massage I have had in the states and I would say even better than most I have had in Thailand. The spa is in a nice area and was very convenient to my hotel in Beverly Hills. Street parking was available right in front of the building. She suggested The Raven in Silverlake and when we called they couldn't get us in, but offered us a place at the El Leon for the same price. Cool, let's do it. And so we headed over to mid-city and made our way through the main doors that looked like they should be in a dentist's office only to find a beautiful little waiting room with wrought iron windows, awesome wood doors and a magazine with Ryan Gosling on the cover. Yep, I was happy. Next it was into the teeny tiny room to change into by far THE MOST unflattering blue short pants and blue t-shirt on the planet. Of course Aunny and I decided to change together in this tiny space, so add the Benny Hill theme song and you pretty much got the visual. We were then escorted to our "couples" massage area, haha, and this is when the hell began. Twisting, kneading, drilling, ripping muscles apart, giving birth to muscles I didn't know I had or even wanted, sighs of anguish, grinding teeth, clenched jaws, tears rolling down my cheeks, the little woman laughing at me during pain, some pain, and oh yeah, a whole lot more pain. Seriously, what the shit is the appeal of Thai massage?! I have never been so uncomfortable and stressed out during a "massage" session in my life! It was like a horrible S&M one night stand that you not only had to pay for, but couldn't leave. Ugh, never friggin again! And just because they give you an apple and an orange slice and some date with nuts thing and some tea, doesn't make up for the torture you have to endure for an hour. Then to top it all off, it's $75 a person, plus tip!! For that?!!? Hell to the no! Call me a wimp, call me a pussy chicken bed wetter, but that is not for me. I will take a soothing, relaxing, pampering massage any day over that pain staking hour in Hell. I have never had a Thai massage before so color me surprised when I arrived to find that ladies were going to walk all over my body. Yes, I said walk all over your body. You can liken a Thai message to a deep tissue sports message in terms of pressure. Anyhow after reading all of the reviews I knew parking was going to be a problem so I left a little early and I am glad I did. Saturday afternoon in Weho can be busy. My Rockstar package said it would take 2.5 hours to complete so I was a little worried about the 2 hour time limit on the parking space. Luckily the nice receptionist offered to feed the meter upon giving her a couple of quarters. I only had to wait 5 minutes in the lobby before I was led in the back area where the massages take place. This spa doesn't have a jacuzzi, a locker room or a steam room but what it lacks in those amenities makes up in in the treatments itself. After undressing in a small partitioned area and putting on one of their treatment frocks I sat in a comfortable chair and progressed to get my feet and arms rubbed. Heaven started that moment and continued for 30 minutes. Afterward I was led to one of 6 cabana type areas and laid on the floor on a mat. For the next hour and a half I had a very nice lady for lack of a better word, step all over me! I mean this in a good way but it was like forced yoga for a very lazy person (that lazy person being me). Anyhow, it was very enjoyable and a little painful but it was good pain as the end result made me feel fabulous! Then the last 40 minutes I had a most wonderful facial and when the treatment was over the kind lady who had just stretched the heck out of me brought me some tea, water and a plate of fruit. I have never considered a Thai massage before and thanks to Groupon I will be trying it again and I will return to try The Raven, the sister spa of El Leon! I was having a tough day and found this place on yelp. They got me in right away and it was the experience of lifetime. Walking in is like stepping into another universe. A fantasy land with no technology, no florescent lights, or loud obnoxious people. I didn't even ask and suddenly fresh figs and herbal tea appeared. My massage was by anastasia she was awesome. I had a one hour massage where I feel asleep and then felt like I was floating for hours afterward. 2 pieces of advice: 1. Give yourself plenty of time, I set aside 90 minutes for a one hour massage and it was not enough. I wish I didn't feel rushed to leave fantasy land but alas I did not plan sitting and finishing my tea and eating fruit would have made my day even better. Alas I had to return to that whole being a working adult. 2. I saw the ad on Uber for 25% off which is one reason I decided to give it a try. After the voodoo magic that was my amazing treatment I totally forgot and paid full price. Three hours of heaven! As far as booking the appointment, David, the Manager/owner (?) was professional and courteous, even gave us a reminder call the day prior! My husband and I both had the Nefertiti package: 30 minute hand and foot soak (and massage) that was everything! Then an hour massage... I did Thai and he did the El Leon. My therapist was Lea.. She was great, just the right amount of pressure, checked on me, kind, good technique! My husband's therapist was "Milk," who he said had strong hands and also applied the right amount of pressure. Afterwards, we both had the 1 hour purity facial... Impressed by Jane, her technique, and the Eminence Products they use (all organic).
