I'm surprised this place is only a 3/5. My boyfriend and I were just there and we absolutely loved it. It's not authentic, it is definitely more on the TexMex side, but that is what we prefer. The shredded beef in my tacos/enchilada was soooo juicy and flavorful and didnt have any weird unknown parts (I freak out easily eating meat - no bones or cartilage, please). The beans and rice were just perfect; the rice was full of flavor and the beans were creamy and cheesy and delicious. The salsa was also one of the best I've ever had. It was crisp and fresh tasting, just hot enough and robust with flavor. The staff was also very nice. Can't wait for all the weight I'm going to gain from being a regular here. read more

Having moved to Eugene from southwest Colorado, we were thrilled to find the yummy Mexican food and friendly service at El Kora. If it weren't for the fact that there are so many great places to eat here we would make it a more regular dining experience. We've tried most of the other Mexican restaurants in town and this is our favorite. This is definitely my favorite Mexican place in town. It fills a need that I haven't been able to fill otherwise since leaving Atlanta. Mexican shrimp cocktails and mixed seafood cocktails are a craving that I just can't get away from, so I usually come here about once a month, though I think it's better to come in the Summer so I can get a Margarita or a Michelada. Service is very friendly, even when they are a little busy, and the chips are fresh and warm. The salsa is just spicy enough to kick you in the mouth, but it's not offensive. The cocktail sauce is standard and authentic, which means it's a little sweeter than cocktail sauce in the American style, but with a little lime juice it's just perfect. I also like the prices, since it's much cheaper to get seafood this way than to go to a place like McGrath's (ick). So far I've had shrimp and fish tacos, camarones a la crema and a number of the various cocktails and ceviches. Everything is good and I even like their beans and rice. Definitely try this place if you like seafood and you're looking for something a little different. read more

This place is underrated. The name means "the coast," so stick with the seafood and you won't be disappointed. DLW loves their shrimp cocktail, loaded with avocado and good sized shrimp, and the sauce is not too sweet. I usually get fish or shrimp tacos, with double layers of soft corn tortillas and nice, fresh veggies. Rice and beans are nothing special. Chips and salsa are also fresh, not oversalted, and have enough kick to get your attention, but not enough to put most people off. They even make a pretty good margarita. The space is nothing fancy, tucked in a corner of a strip mall, but it's clean and bright. Service is usually good, but occasionally slow. The location at the end of Delta Highway means you have to make a special trip, and fight the traffic surrounding Wal-Mart. It's worth it. read more

I came here after reading mostly positive reviews, and although I didn't have high expectations, i'm super disappointed. I give em credit, they try. The service is fantastic, indeed! But the food? Not so much. Two words: SO SALTY. I wish they'd lay off of it. The chips and salsa are mediocre at best, nothing special about it at all. It's just like chips in a bag that are heated up. Although this place is gorgeous on the inside complete with a picturesque island mural, it's your typical Mexican American restaurant with burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and everything. I ordered the fish tostada which came out looking amazing as it was topped with lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, and the works. But I found the tostada to be very bland in flavor. I was expecting more of a light saucy flavor that I did not get. My mother said the same thing about her meal choice (that it was more bland than expected). Maybe some people may not be able to handle too much flavor or spice, but me and my mom were expecting a bit more than we got. The best part about this place was the chips and salsa appetizer. The salsa was amazingly spicy and flavorful. We both ended up putting the salsa all over our meals and asked for more. Lastly, I must thank our waiter for keeping my purse safe. I had left it on my chair that night and realized it was missing the next morning. I eventually made my way back to Eugene from Portland to get it and was happy to find it was still there. My finace and I went here the other night. I ordered the Pescado Frito (fried tilapia) and he ordered the Carne Asada plate. My dish was AWESOME and I even licked the plate clean and his not so much. His carne asada was overcooked and tough, he didn't even finish it...and this is coming from a man that LOVES carne asada. They were very attentive to us and checked on us to see if we needed anything. The margaritas there were really good, not too sweet and it tasted like they use real lime juice as opposed to the bottled crap. But among the best I've eaten in worldwide (Yes. I've eaten in Mexican restaurants in the USA, Mexico, Canada, and Spain.) We will keep this place in mind for our return trips to Eugene. read more

Finally, a Mexican restaurant to "write home about". I love this place. The atmosphere is very Baja California (surf) style, not that cheesy old world 1800s Mexican restaurant style. The chips and salsa are great, the salsa tastes fresh and home made. No "restaurant/food service crap here! At this point I have had most things on the menu and guess what...there is FLAVOR! I know right, flavor in a Mexican restaurant in Eugene! ...it's true. The rice tastes well seasoned and I love their shredded beef. You can tell that they make their ingredients on site, the beef still has bits of potato and seasoning that the meat was stewed in. The retried beans even taste and look home made. The color is a dead give away. Canned refried beans are darker in color. Whereas these still have that fresh light color. The prices are reasonable for Mexican food, averaging $9.00 to around $13.00. Not bad for fresh flavorful food I definitely recommend, and have recommended, this restaurant to others. I say support this place and give it a try. read more

Wow wow wow! How refreshing it was to walk into a Baja type Mexican restaurant and actually get Baja Mexican food! Prices are comparable for the area. You could just get beans and rice with chips and salsa for under $5! Fresh, clean, and homemade! The beans and rice were fresh and I had to have the fish tacos! The best I have glad in the PAC northwest! This is a nicely kept secret near Starbucks and gold's gym. We were the only people in there around 5 pm on a Friday and we were left alone to enjoy our food and our company! The chips and salsa were fresh and awesome! The salsa was flavorful and closer to medium than mild but in a totally delicious way. This is a good place to just go have some amazing seafood and not just the same old tired Mexican restaurant fare. Salmon, scallops, octopus, halibut... Did I mention octopus? ;0) try it! I've hear about this place for a long time now. Finally my brother wanted cheviche. This place is the only place I know that their special dish is seafood. First off, the waitress I belive the owner is really nice. It was empty when we got here but she made it so we didn't feel awkward. I got a beer. Witch was nice! Negra modelo. We got chips and salsa when we sat down. I got cheviche and my brother got a coctel. Everything was really good. I added more special green salsa and my mouth was on fire!! everything was good. Absolute worst service I have ever had! Painfully slow service. Only 1 other table was full when we arrived and we were there for an hour and a half.
