I was promptly seated and asked for the English menu. While the servers don't speak much English, I was able to get by with my broken Spanish. Most of the menu items are good for 2 persons. I asked if there is a single portion and server indicated that they can do single portions. I ordered the Frutti di Mare (seafood spaghetti). The portion was huge! The spaghetti was cooked perfectly. There were tons of seafood... squid, clams, mussels and shrimps. It was delicious! One thing to note. When I received the bill, for a 1 person portion, they charged 80% of the cost for 2. Thinking I should have just ordered for 2 and took the rest to go. I'm sure they tried to explain it and I just didn't understand them. I'd go back there again but maybe with another person to share the food with.

And, ultimately, yes, I was grown up enough to eat there, although, since I'm not a wine drinker, I felt I was missing out on the total experience. The decor of the restaurant is very elegant with lots of wood. We dined on the second level and were treated to an excellent view of the diners below. Being as there weren't many non-alcoholic drink options I had water. This is one area of opportunity. I would've loved to have something like a fruity cocktail to complement my dish. As an appetizer, we had the Corn Polenta with Prawns. It was an interesting dish with tender prawns and a seafood broth poured over the polenta. Very good. For my entree, I had a very rich pasta dish called Tagliatelle with Creamy Spinach and Ham. This was a delicious dish- let me tell you, the standout was the ham which was very mild and not heavily salted. That dish was a 5/5! For dessert I chose the Panna Cotta, it was a little too sweet for my liking. We also passed on the complementary Limoncello at the end. Overall, I really enjoyed our visit to Sottovoce, the main dish was spectacular, but the other elements bookending the main were a little less than spectacular. Nonetheless, I would definitely return for the Tagliatelle, but next time try a different appetizer and dessert.

Very quaint, old school feel inside an old building. The balconies are small but hold table for 4. On a nice day like when we went (it was about 85 degrees F) was nice to look outside onto the plaza and people watch. As we ordered food, the quality of the dishes were top notch. Everything was fresh and tasted superb. The flavours were rich, not salty, not over/under cooked. All the dished that came out were nice and hot and tasted amazing. The bread served was fresh, crunchy outside, soft inside with butter and some red wine. This place if you didn't know you were sitting in Buenos Aires, you'd think you were in Italy! Service was great, very prompt and nice. As with any Argentine or foreign restaurant, you have to ask for your bill if you want to leave, otherwise they just let you be. Overall, I do believe this place is truly 5 star rating, food, quality, taste, ambiance and service. We were greeted at the door by Marcello and if you're lucky enough to have him as your waiter you will be informed and served by a warm-hearted gentleman who is a twenty-year employee who knows his stuff. Nothing seemed more authentic than the big parrilla (grill) that greets you when you enter or the fact that the place doesn't open for dinner until 8pm. A meal in this clean, somewhat industrial-looking space begins with empanadas and chimichurri arriving automatically at your table thanks to the small "cubierto" (per person cover fee, not a tip, of about $2.50 per person). Given the late dining hour I resisted over-ordering, knowing that I didn't want to go to sleep stuffed to the brim. Rib-eye was my choice, along with wine and beer, with the whole thing coming in at a pre-tip price of $90,100ARS (about $63USD). It was a perfect meal that still filled me succinctly and as I left I couldn't help but feel for all those still waiting to enter the restaurant at around 10 p.m. Parrilla Peña proved to be a great and authentic choice for a solid parrilla experience. I went on to have similar meals for more money a couple more times while in Argentina but it was here that I thought the experience most authentic, being enjoyed more by locals and only a handful of in-the-know tourists such as myself.
