The long awaited opening of El Guero #2 is done, sorta. First target was August, second target was October, actual Grand Opening is 15 November. They are in the middle of a soft opening right now at 3055 E Fairview Ave, Meridian. Get your Mariscos on, soon before the currently 3/4 busy location gets packed. I totally recommend the Mojarra Frita and the quesobirria tacos made with chicken.

It was my very first time here. The place is nice it has an open setting. The bathrooms are clean. Our server was nice polite and she answered our questions to the best of her knowledge. The presentation of the food is great. I had the shrimp cocktail and it was good I had to add chille to give it more flavor. The Medusa it's actually pretty good my daughter loved it. The carne asada plate was delicious the meat was tender and very good flavor. The big shrimp that is covered in some red spicy sauce was too spicy for me. I had a mi chelada with a modelo and I loved it a bit pricey but it was good. Over all we all enjoyed our food and each other and the drinks were pretty good.

Food was good but service could've been a lot better. The pricing was on the higher end so yeah. The shrimp plate had more onions than shrimp...a bit unfortunate. Will we come back? Not sure.

Our server, MJ, did a really great job taking care of us. She was nice, friendly, helpful, and attentive. Our daughter had the Unicorn sushi roll with a side of edamame, my wife had a bowl of clam chowder and the shrimp scampi, and I had the fish and chips (cod; they also offer salmon and halibut, but the halibut, which I would have liked, was double the price at $38). For dessert, we shared the key lime pie. My wife said the clam chowder was OK, but more potatoes than clams. She did like her scampi. Our daughter liked the sushi roll. And, I liked the beer battered cod with the tartar sauce, and their fries were nicely seasoned and fairly crispy ( a little crispier would have been nice). The key lime pie had a rougher texture; I like it more creamy. Still good, though. I liked the exterior of the building. Red brick, arched windows that have a Mediterranean feel, and an exterior staircase that gives a bit of an industrial vibe. I thought it would be a little more upscale inside, but it is more basic wood tables and booths. There is a patio area, and it looks like there is an upstairs patio or dining area as well. All in all, a good first experience. We will definitely return.

She was there for our drinks, waters, appetizers, and entrees with no wait and didn't miss a beat. She served all four of us on four different tickets with no confusion and it was very impressive! I'll speak on my order only as majority thought I had the best meal of the night. I got the surf n turf which was a 8 oz Waygu teriyaki top sirloin with 3 tempura prawns with coconut sauce and mashed potato. I asked for medium and it was perfect red center and the teriyaki sauce on top was perfect and all the guys agreed. The prawns are the same prawns as the appetizer just 3 with the plate, but the coconut sauce was great! Creamy and coconuty! Mashed potatoes were really good no complaints, soft and not buttery but still tasty. The guys I was with got the vanilla bean crembrule and the chocolate lava cake and there was nothing left so that tells you how good both were! I'm usually on top of it for photos but forgot this time and only have receipt as proof, looks like I'll just have to go back.

That is not easy to do in today's business environment of chain restaurants and post pandemic failures. Interesting menu. Our dinner started with spring greens salad. Side dressing is smart of them to do. Kimberly was an all star server. See photos and receipt for details of our meal. There were almost no empty tables during our visit at 630 on a Thursday. Thoughtful owner provides a complimentary small scoop of sherbet as a palate cleanser at the end of the experience. Interior very cozy & is nicely decorated with a very nautical theme. One wall makes the space appear to be along a street of a fishing village. Very creative. About 15 tables. Cool fish tank. Ring the ship's bell as you enter. Plenty of off-street parking.

Walking in, it honestly felt a little more kitschy strip mall seafood spot than I expected -- huge menu, lots of combinations, kind of that Cheesecake Factory energy where there are SO many options you stop knowing what the specialty is supposed to be. I ordered the cioppino and that was probably the biggest letdown for me. The broth was really thin and soupy without much depth. Weirdly, even the frozen Trader Joe's cioppino has more richness and flavor going on. We also tried the halibut fish and chips and they were... fine? Not bad, not amazing, just kind of middle-of-the-road for the price point. That said, I do think this might just be one of those places where you order very specifically. Everyone seems to swear by the halibut plates with sauces, so next time I'd probably try something like the lemon caper version instead. But at around $35 for some of the plates, I kept thinking I'd personally rather go get sushi somewhere or have two really good craft cocktails instead. Still glad we finally tried it though because it had been on my local Boise food list forever.

My girlfriends and I decided we needed to get some grub and enjoy the patio weather today so we all picked Sockeye to hit up for our monthly outing. I arrived first and the patio area was pretty chill. Was sat at a great table and hung out till the rest of my friends showed up. My two friends and I did get to peep out the menu for a bit. Our last friend who is notoriously late allowed is some extra time to really check out the whole menu without feeling rushed. Happy hour was going on so of course the apps were calling to me. I can make a meal off of multiple appetizers. We finally got food ordered when our last friend showed up. I got the salmon and shrimp crab cakes. I have left Sockeye hungry before after having dinner here so I also added a side of chili just in case. I was ready to eat! My crab and shrimp cakes came out looking fabulous. They were fried a nice golden brown. So crispy on the outside and savory on the inside. I love the aoili that was on top, it added an extra flair to the crab cake. 3 were in an order and it was the perfect amount. I smashed all 3 and they were so good! I did have a couple bites of the chili. It was hearty in meat and beans. Rich in flavor and filling. I'm looking forward to adding this chili to some fries with some cheese on top for dinner later. I know it's going to be so good. Our server did a great job tonight. Despite the fact that she had to wait till our last friend to show up, our server was on top of it. Our water was always filled, she checked up on us and always made sure we were happy. As a past server, it's hard to manage time between tables when the whole party isn't there. Our server didn't have that issue today. My girlfriends and I had a great time. We enjoyed the food, enjoyed the atmosphere and was happy that we got to do this all on the patio. I always forget that there's a Sockeye by us off of Hill Rd. I will have to check that one out soon to grab more crab cakes. I do look foward to coming back to this location and enjoying another round of appetizers on the patio here.
