My family and I had a great first experience with El Fredo Pizza. Between the extremely personal and excellent customer service from who I assume was an owner or a manager, the old school vibes and the absolutely on-point pizza. He noticed that it had been my first time, and I mentioned that I was from out of town. He went above and beyond very quickly explained how it worked there, ordering, where to get drinks, recommendations, then he offered up some cheese bread on the house...my kids and I destroyed it 11/10 best ever. Hell, I woke up the next morning thinking about how good it was. We also ordered an aloha pizza. It was excellent nice and thick. Plenty of toppings. Crispy on the outside and nice chewy soft on the inside...perfection. I only visit the area once or twice a year... but I will for sure be adding this pizza to a must have. I live in the Fort Worth area of Texas and there are plenty of great places to eat, including pizza, I'm a world traveler I've been to almost all parts of Italy... not even kidding this place is in the top five of the world for me for best pie. Was here two weeks ago, and I must say that the food was good but there was zero napkins at the table, no salt no ketchup no mustard no nothing at the table. Don't let the word "spicy" scare you because somehow it has the spicy flavor without having the spicy burn which is some kind of magic. It's what sets this pizza apart. - Pepperoni pizza - so, so good. - Plain breadsticks with marinara (THE sauce) - it's perfect. You don't need the cheese or the fancy stuffed breadsticks. Pizza and breadsticks were pretty good and we had good recommendations from the staff. They were kind as it was our first time here. The restaurant seems very dated, and the layout of having to get your drinks at the bar seemed a bit odd. There are rooms in every direction and it was very dark in some of them. There was also a salad bar in the corner that seemed a bit neglected, and also chips and salsa which felt odd. Could be a cool place, and we would consider coming back but it felt a bit confusing on the inside. read more

So surprised by the serving size and the price was less then $11. It was delicious! The pan of lasagna was about 8x6 inches, as you will see in the picture the pan is full. The salad that same with it is also lager then a side salad you would get other places. I will be back for the pizza when I have company to eat it all, until then o have lunch for tomorrow. read more

Pizza is always a win, tried the wings tonight and I would not recommend. They leave a lot to be desired. We ordered buffalo wings but they didn't have flavor at all. We actually had to add sauce when we got home to eat them. Stick with the pizza it will not disappoint. read more

It's my father's absolute favorite pizza in town. It isn't mine. I think it's a little saucy and their sauce is kinda sweet. The toppings are always great and the crust isn't always perfect, but it has great flavor. When I get the choice I don't choose El Fredo's, but if that's what we're having I don't complain, either. I haven't been inside in years. We always sat in the bigger room that had the big screen and stage. I liked that you were able to go fill your soda glass whenever you wanted. They did have a bit of a limited selection. Not sure if that is what it's like now. (Reviewing in Sept. of 2020.) NO idea what their Covid procedures are. (I only get take out. Which is always great.) Sometimes they're super busy, but they let you know and are always so nice about it. They have specials. Ask or check their FB page. Liquor store next door! Hello fellow Yelper! I have recently traveled to South Sioux City for work and found this spot in a food desert, here are my take aways ! Look this area does not have many options but looking at the yelp this was the only restaurant with 4 stars near. I ordered a simple pepperoni pizza to carry out . This place has no delivery. Pizza: The pizza was very solid. The sauce had a sweet hint which I I'm not a huge fan of. I'm sure it's similar to how some people like sugar in their spaghetti ( which I will never understand lol but I won't yuck their yum). Besides the sweeetish sauce the pizza had a great chew and hit the spot . Atmosphere: The inside was very reminiscent of a traditional local pizza spot you would have a kids party after a t ball game. If you are ever in this area check out this pizza spot I believe I it's the best you will find. read more

I've heard from a few sources that El Fredo is not only their favorite pizza in Iowa, but their favorite pizza anywhere ever. So we looked forward to dropping in on the drive from Minneapolis to Omaha. First glance - oh the charm! I can understand why the nostalgia here is strong. There are classic signs with grammatical errors, a handful of different segmented rooms with different styles, dark carpeting and wood paneling... real stinkin cute and comfy tbh. We placed our order for two dinner salads and one large "The Works" + artichokes pizza at the counter and then ordered drinks at the bar. 30min later our number is called. They totally forgot our salads but brought them over pretty quickly. We grabbed a pizza stand off the wall and dug in. Oh godddd, I don't know how they make a thin crust hold up all that dang cheese and toppings! We were fans of the original sauce; unique and slightly sweet! But maybe we should have started more modest and gotten a less intense pizza, because all of the greasy toppings (and acidic sauce) was almost overwhelming. Still delicious and worth getting again! Oh and be sure to get the homemade blue cheese dressing whether it's for the salad or pizza or both. read more

Let me preface this with Grubhub delivery sucks! I ordered two items, only one delivered. The driver was instructed to wait but took off without. ElFredo was kind enough to call me directly about the Grubhub error and agreed to call the driver.EF called me back and sad the driver would return. After several calls to GH, they could not contact the driver. They did refund the cost of the food but, only another 2.49 fee for something else. I tipped the guy 5 bucks and didn't get that back!(contactless delivery, I'm staying at a hotel) I do digress, I did receive my pizza. Oh boy! It was good! loaded with wth cheese and the other toppings, a medium can feed a family of four. The sauce is unique and full of flavor, the amount of toppings complimented the pizza very well. We called ahead to ask about gluten free crust and were told they had them. Got there and they didn't have them. So our daughter could only get salad bar where the lettuce was slimy and the cheese chunks were hard. Went to get plates and three in a row were dirty. Pizza was ok , place could use a good cleaning. We were also treated rudely by the manager. We were there for a birthday celebration. We placed our order were given #25 and took our seats. the server came by and asked if we were #23 and we said no. This place has been around a long long time but I hadn't been here in many years. We went for pizza with friends last night. Walked in and the place was very busy (a good sign). Ordered pizza and a dinner salad. Lots of families in the place and we found a table in the tiered room. Not sure if they ever do comedy nights here like they use to. Our pizza arrived and was delicious. The dinner salads had been forgotten. They quickly made them. I would not recommend the salad. Iceberg lettuce and a spear of cheese and olives. The pizza had very good flavor. Crust was a bit floppy and would be my only criticism. Sauce had a nice sweetness to it which was good for something different. We will be back again. August 2017 update: As I looked back at my existing reviews, I noticed my 4 star review of El Fredos. While 4 stars is a very good rating, I felt compelled to up it to 5. We went there this past weekend after craving it all day. It is consistently great pizza with great sauce (get the original) and plenty of toppings. This is one of those love-it-or-hate-it places. I've certainly never had pizza quite like El Fredo anywhere else. They serve a thin, greasy pizza known largely for its sweet sauce that has a very light kick to it. (It's spicy enough that there's a mild sauce on offer, but I honestly never noticed any spice.) The locals swear by it, but it took me a few tries to warm up to it. The sauce isn't the only unique element at play here. The restaurant itself is set up rather oddly: you place your order at the front of the restaurant, collect your order number, then go into the back of the restaurant to order beverages from the bar, at which point you can finally settle down at a table in one of two dining areas and wait to hear your order called so you can go back to the front and collect it. It's a tad confusing on a first visit. If you want an appetizer, go with the garlic bread. It's pretty standard garlic bread, but it's warm and tasty with a good crispy texture, even better if you get it with the melted cheese on top. The side salad is a sad joke though -- it's just a bed of iceberg lettuce and a toothpick of olives, cheese, and pepperoni -- and I found the breadsticks might as well have been made of cardboard. If you're after veggies, the pizza toppings include quite a few vegetables that not all pizza places bother with. Sauerkraut, artichoke, broccoli... If you're an adventurous eater or enjoy unusual pizzas, you can really go wild with your toppings. The pizza is at its best when it's piping hot and fresh out of the oven, while the cheese is a tasty goo and the sauce might burn your mouth. After adjusting to the unusual taste, I've come around to really enjoy a pizza here. The toppings are plentiful and the crust is firm without turning too crunchy. My biggest problem is the grease. I don't expect pizzas to be dry, but the meaty pizzas here can be absurdly greasy. You'll need a small mountain of napkins to get through a few slices. When it comes to leftovers, the pizza reheats okay in an oven, but I find it completely inedible if I nuke it in the microwave, so fair warning. I'd probably give El Fredo four stars for its food, but I've got to dock another star for the location. The tables are a bit cramped and seating for parties of 5+ fill up fast. The intercom that calls your order is often muffled and hard to hear if the employee isn't good at enunciating. The parking lot is terrible to navigate when it's full. Most alarming of all, there are cramped doorways you'll have to pass through to grab your food, which often have children running underfoot near the arcade machines. I haven't seen any collisions yet, but I hold my breath when I see kids zooming around that area. El Fredo is definitely one-of-a-kind. If its flavor is up your alley, you're not likely to find anything like it elsewhere. read more

We were visiting town for a sports tournament and chose El Fredo for the great Yelp reviews. We walked in the side door and were not greeted by the young man at the bar. We had to ask if we seat ourselves. We sat down and realized there was no wait staff. The dining room was freezing from a broken window covered in plywood! We asked directions from the useless man behind the bar, and he told us we needed to go up to the counter to order (info we could have used when we walked in). We stood online to order, the lobby filled with smoke from a burnt order. You can see the cooks where you order, and one was not wearing a mask, neither was the girl taking the orders. No thanks! Ambiance: Been here twice and have enjoyed both times. The place has two major seating areas one feels like a parlor shop with pearly plastic bench seating while the other is a den-like lair with a tiny stage, each with their own atmospheres. The den, admittedly has a somewhat high ceiling and little cushion to absorb sound which makes it prone to sounding noisy. It's all self-service here so no complaints really about getting drinks or wait times. Food: We started with cheese bread which is essentially a thinner pizza crust topped with cheese and which you dip into a tomato sauce, almost a deconstructed pizza. You can probably skip this if you're getting a pizza although it is a good thing to share. The pizza has a good crust which we ordered well-done to guarantee hefty crunch but it was still moist, slightly chewy, and not too heavy. It was topped with a nice complex sauce with overtones of a sweet red wine like marsala and spices that give it some punch and a hint of heat. The cheese was copious without being obnoxious, thoroughly melted, and perfectly browned. Toppings were plentiful and well-dispersed. Overall this place was pretty tasty. The cheese bread resembled a pizza too much but was a good appetizer nonetheless. The pizza itself was well-composed although the sweet-spicy sauce which sets it apart from every other pizza place might not be for everyone or fit in to the idea of a stereotypical pizza sauce. You've had Chicago deep dish and New York style, California fusion styles, etc. Now it's time for Sioux City style pizza. It was our first visit today. The pizza was really good. The original sauce was delicious. The crust had an almost sourdough taste and a sweetness to it. I've had all kinds of pizza around the country and this one was unique. Really, I think they set a local standard. The toppings were piled on. Most of the pepperoni slices were crispy. I can't wait to have another slice. We were unfamiliar with the process, so we had gone in and seated ourselves. There is no wait service. Instead you are supposed to order at the counter just inside the door. When your pizza is ready they call your number. This was our first visit, but I am sure we will go back next time we are on the west side of Sioux City. read more
