Wonderful food from a family-run restaurant using grandma's recipes. Attentive and knowledgeable service.

It's a great place to go with friends, date night or solo. It's very intimate, dark and cozy. We came for the steak which was amazing but the star of the show for me was the branzino. I loved the sauces on the fish -the red side was my favorite. I was also super shocked at how good the carrots were! They were sweet and savory perfection. The crab guacamole was also delicious. Everything was so good! Can't wait for my next visit.

The timing of our visit also worked out perfectly, as it was still Restaurant Week. I started off with the Tamarindo Margarita, which was a great start. The drink was not too sweet with the perfect mix of tamarind. For my appetizer, I then had the Empanadas de Wagu, which was absolutely delicious. The flavors in this dish were everything. My only critique was that my empanadas weren't brought out hot, they were actually lukewarm. Despite the temperature, these empanadas were bussin! For my main course, I had the Seafood Enchiladas. The pairing of all the flavors, spices, sauces, and meat was perfect, offering a unique, delectable taste that I look forward to having again the next time I visit. For my dessert, I had the Creamy Corn Cake which I thoroughly enjoyed. The service was good, though it started off giving the impression that it may be a little rocky, which turned out not to be the case. The ambiance of dLena was cute with intimate vibes. Overall, we had a great experience and I will definitely be back.

I had dinner here recently and I enjoyed the casual nature of the spot. I've gone to their previous location, which had a fire, and I like this current location much better even if it doesn't seem as popular as before. The food remains the same. Good, but not the best mexican. Though, I was spoiled living in california previously. The tacos and dips are the winner here. The quesadillas are heavy with the thick corn meal outer coating. It's just not to my taste. Overall, it's a great spot though. If it's nice weather, this is a go-to to sit on the deck. On my visit, they didnt have a liquor license but they now have it!

Rajas: This was my wife's favorite by far. Al Pastor: Far and away my favorite taco. Carne Asada: Tasted great and was what we wanted. Suadero/Carnitas/Pollo: These were fine. They lacked the intense flavors of the other tacos and while none were bad, I wouldn't get them again. Shrimp: My wife did not really like this one. Passionfruit Flan: Very subtle and not too sweet. The price was great and it was larger then expected. We enjoyed this. We enioyed our dinner on the upper outside patio and the service was great. The guy who delivers the food is so cheerful and our server gave great recommendations.

It used to be the spot for me and my friends to grab a quick bite and everything about it was exceptional: who can say no to super affordable yet authentic street tacos served on paper plates. Sadly, it closed. Last night, I think I stumbled across a taco spot to finally take the wheel from our dearly missed El Chilango. Taqueria Al Lado is very no frills and a tiny spot, but it has tacos that make your heart sing. My friend recommended the Al Pastor so I got that with a chicken taco as well. Both were super flavorful, fatty, but really fresh and well balanced. The key here is simplicity and they do it perfectly. Each taco was about $4 or $5 if I remember correctly, so it's a great spot to grab food if you're trying to ball on a budget. We got the guac, too, which was good but not life changing; the fresh chips, however, were spot on. As far as service goes, we went on a Friday and it was super busy, but there were plenty of servers if we needed something (just had to be vocal). I will definitely be coming back!

The elote was solid, with real queso fresco. We also ordered aguachiles with shrimp and it was prepared nicely though when the delivery came the bottom of the bag was soaked with aguachiles water/ citrus. The Jamaica agua fresca was nicely done as well. Overall for legit Mexican in the DC area and for delivery Al Lado was top tier.

We felt welcome, people were so kind, especially the manager and our server Wyatt. We love the ambience and vibe of the restaurant. Great for date night, friends, or even family dinner with teens. Even though we were there until closing time other 11 PM. They were friendly and did not rush us at all. The hostess greeted me and asked if I'd ever been to the restaurant before. She directed me to the back counter where I was able to review the menu and place my order. The server at this register was also very nice. I liked the texture of the rice bowls and everything was cooked well. However, the portions for everything were smaller than I expected for the price. Bartaco offers items with mushrooms, falafel, and cauliflower. However I think it would be great if they could offer something with tofu as there is not a protein option for vegans. The chips and guacamole were decent but nothing special. Interesting that the chips come as large pieces instead of as individual chips. I'd maybe stop in again if I was nearby but I'm not sure I'm eager to return.
