I first…read moreentered the building, which I thought was the main building and started wondering around trying to find the ticketing area, but there was none. I found myself in a gallery until a security guard told me that this is a ticketed area and told me to get a ticket from the gift shop. I went to the gift shop and bought my ticket and then they directed to a separate building where the museum actually was. While I walked there, I passed by an aquarium and walked in and it turned out that you need a separate ticket for it! I left the aquarium and continued my quest to find the museum. I passed by a garden with various statues, pretty cool and the museum and right behind that. Went into the museum building and walked in to what I thought was part of the exhibit and it turned out to be the back part of it and I was directed to go to the other end. Yes! I finally found it! They took my ticket and I entered the museum exhibit area. It's a gallery of the history of Mexico from ancient times to almost current day. I love that for most of the articles, there's an English translation below it as well. Definitely recommend checking out this museum. Don't get lost!

The museum is very well thought out, interesting and well designed. It gives a history focusing on the Baja California region of Mexico. It was very informative and helped to learn a lot about the area, its indigenous people and how it came to be the Baja we know today. I enjoyed it immensely though do wish there was more emphasis on the indigenous communities and their contributions to the culture and not so heavy on the impact of the Spanish especially the priests and monks. They do history a disservice by not mentioning the atrocities that transpired against the native people by the conquerers both religious and otherwise in the name of religion and "gentrification". We need to be honest, so that these crimes against humanity are not soon repeated.

The 2nd floor is all about lucha libre. It is very clean, well taken care of, bathrooms clean as well. Would recommend to anyone visiting tijuana or citizen to come and take a look. In the graffiti, poems scribbled on the walls, dancers performing on the streets, local bands playing every chance they get... it's great! It's just a shame that the city lacks a cultural center that can hold and give home to this. It's because of that reason that I am a fan of every museum in Tijuana. This is obviously not an exception. You can easily identify the structure of this building miles away. It's huge! The good thing is that there is always a new exhibit on display. They really try to cover all grounds from photography to classical painting. Amazing lecturers as well, the curators do an amazing job at finding just the right talent to bring along. Just as a bonus tip, they do offer some art courses. For more information don't hesitate to contact them since the times/courses are always changing. I'm confident that they are all good though. The professors in here are knowledgeable and patient.

Their offerings are extensive and I tried to cover the entire museum in 2 hours. I will say though, that if you're short on time, do not skip this just because of that. Wax figures are outdated and pretty old, but I like how they give a description for most figure they have. It gives you a bit of Mexican culture. You find out a little about who they were and what they did. I really enjoy their small horror section. I really do hope that one day they add a small story in the descriptive part or possibly add some eerie music. The creaky floor is a good effect. Adding a small gift shop with keychains or magnets would be nice also. I do love the small ticket they give you, that's usually my take home souvenir. They have bathrooms in there they're pretty clean. Staff was friendly as well. I say it takes about 15 to 20 minutes to do the full museum like I mentioned it's small. You can purchase your ticket…read moreat any of the main booths/boat entrances, then show your receipt to visit the others on the same day. The flexibility of a self-guided tour was great. One ship was away on a sail in the afternoon this past Saturday, but there was more than enough to explore on the various vessels during our visit. Plenty to see and experience on each of the boats. We stepped onto the swift boat where staff educated us about its machine gun. And we walked through and checked out the different sections of the USS Dolphin submarine too. The HMS Surprise was a lovely ship with plenty of references to its use in films. The Star of India was like a museum all on its own, so many areas to explore and a ton of history to learn. The Californian was pretty basic, not very different from many other ships we've visited in the past. Steam Ferry Berkeley was the largest, with displays showcasing scientific instruments, model boats, artwork, the riverboats in Vietnam, the engine room, a torpedo caught by a fisherman, and a special exhibit featuring the "histories of the black pacific". There's a gift shop on site as well. Altogether, the variety of ships at the Maritime Museum made for an interesting adventure, a bit touristy, but worth the cost if you're into history or simply like boats.

Ok so I will split this into two reviews:…read more 1: the ships and actual adventure 2: the reservation process and customer service 1: booked a trip for the Spanish replica ship adventure the San Salvador and really loved it. The ticket also got you access to the other ships to walk around which was cool. But the coolest part was that San Salvador was sailed like they would have sailed it waaay back when. We got to see real rigging masts sails steering all being done by a crew and it was a totally amazing experience and such a perfect day. Bonus: we saw dolphins and it was a perfect day. Drawback: the gentlemen speaking throughout didn't talk into his mic often so missed a lot but oh well - who's really going for history?! such a good time!!. 2. I had a good with my tickets and called and tried to talk to folks in person and could never get someone. The tickets were cancelled but not refunded which was a bummer and staff in the kiosk even said they phone lines were messed up. A bummer. :(
