My Wife's Son, Joe, came over to celebrate his birthday. He chose the Original Henry's Mexican…read moreRestaurant for this Lunch. On Thursday's, Henry's has their Steak Specials running from 11 am until 5 pm, so Steak for lunch sounds like a winner for us. When we arrived, I wasn't really surprised that there are a lot of cars/trucks in the parking lot. Walked in, was greeted by the Hostess, and shown to a table in the Main Dining area. Right away, the Chips & Salsa Lady came by with their Red Salsa, Bean Dip topped with Gravy, and those Fresh Warm Chips for us to enjoy. Right after that, our Server, Monica, stopped by and took our drink order while we looked over the menu, mainly their Thursday Steak Specials. Those Chips and Salsa, which is on the Hot side, are delicious, but I tend to lean toward the Bean Dip topped with Gravy. That is some really good stuff. When Monica returned with our drinks, we placed our order. Joe is having the "KC Steak"; About 16 ounces of Hand Cut Sirloin, requested medium. Served with Baked Potato or French Fries, chose French Fries. Served with Frijoles Borracho's and a Salad. Nancy is having the same thing, but medium rare. I am going with the "Henry's New York Strip Steak"; About 14 ounces. Chose French Fries over the Baked Potato. Served with Frijoles Borracho's and a Salad. All Steaks are tenderized by the In-House-Butcher and seasoned accordingly. Traditional Kansas City-style Steaks are typically seasoned with a blend of Coarse Garlic Salt, Pepper, Coriander, and Chili Peppers. Henry's has other Steaks on their Thursday Specials; Besides the two kinds we ordered, they have "Spanish Steak"; About 14 ounces, with the same sides. The "Chicken Fried Steak"; Their CFS sits in a Cheese-Gravy and is one of the Best CFS's around. And they have the standard "Hamburger Steak"; topped with Brown Gravy & Onions. Right after Monica took our food order, she returned and with Fresh Warm Chips and more of the Red 'Hot' Salsa. That stuff warms you up from the inside out and is very tasty. We enjoyed those Chips and Dips, and then our Salads came out. I topped mine off with their Vinaigrette Dressing, my Wife chose Thousand Island, and I think Joe went with Ranch. Right after we finished the Delicious, Crisp and Flavorful Salads, our Steaks arrived. Henry's has always been pretty quick in serving their food, and the presentation is Spot-On. No matter what plate you order, it's always going to be a Beautiful Presentation. All three of our Steaks are glistening, and the aroma makes your tummy smile. We all three cut into our Steaks and they are Right-On, just the way they should be. I have had the KC Steak before, and it was Very Tastylicious, and that's what my Wife said about hers. Very Tender with lots of Flavor in every bite. Joe loved his also and ate all of it. My Wife didn't eat all of hers because, as she says, she isn't tall enough. I ate all of mine because I am tall enough. It was also Very Flavorful, Tenderlicious and just down-right great. Their Steaks cut very easy with a knife - it just falls through the Deliciousness with ease. Normally, a New York Strip Steak is seasoned by being patted dry, then liberally coated on all sides with kosher salt and black pepper. Some methods involve dry-brining for several hours, while others apply a simple mix of salt, pepper, and garlic powder just before cooking. Don't know if Henry's does theirs this way, but I do know that it's Awesomely Flavored. French Fries are pretty good, and I ate all of mine, but don't tell my Doctor. I'm not suppose to have this much Steak and Potatoes, and I've done this a couple times this week. So - Shhhhhhhhhhhh. No wonder their Frijoles Borracho's are Very Tasty. The Frijoles Borracho's (Drunken Beans) are a classic dish featuring Pinto Beans slow-simmered with Beer, Bacon, and aromatic Vegetables. Other key ingredients are Bacon rendered fat, Garlic, Jalapenos, Tomatoes, Cilantro, and dark Mexican Beer. All of that in a bowl for your enjoyment. And believe me, you will enjoy these. Monica earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. She checked on us at just the right times and was very pleasant to talk to. She also described how the Steaks were seasoned, prepared, and that the KC Steak is her favorite. She is Awesome. When we left, Henry's was pretty busy, as expected. Maybe they all came for the Steaks. On the way home, we enjoyed another Beautiful San Angelo Afternoon.

I'm a lifelong fan of Henry's. Growing up, my family would go to Henry's once a week. The chicken…read morefried steak was always my go-to- the flavor is unmatched, meat is tender, and the gravy served with it is the best I've had. When I got older, I started getting the Rosita- 2 cheese enchiladas, 1 beef taco, rice and beans. The sauce on the enchiladas is my favorite. That's still what I order now. I no longer live in San Angelo, so I look forward to having Henry's when I'm visiting for holidays & rave about it to my friends. The Christmas lights inside during the holiday season are beautiful. Prices are good, chips and salsa are always on point. Service is- and always has been friendly and FAST. The food never takes more than 10 minutes to come out, and it's very hot and fresh. Out of probably hundreds of visits, I haven't disliked a single meal at Henry's.

I know you know yesterday was Valentine's Day, and it's a good day to take your "Better Half" (and…read moreyou know that's true) out for Dinner at one of her favorite places. "The Grill". That also sounds really good to me. We know The Grill will be busy, especially since Valentine's Day falls on a Saturday, so we left earlier than normal. Arrived, and a good number of cars were parked all around. Walked in, and the place is packed, with every bar stool and table taken. The Hostess said it will only be a few minutes for your table. In a couple of minutes, a table was available. After we were seated, more people arrived, but they also only had to wait a couple of minutes. The Grill has two bartenders working along with several servers, and a couple of employees cleaning up the tables when they become available. Our Server is Sophia, and she took our drink order. Two Jack-N-Cokes and waters. While we waited for our drinks, we looked over the menu. We kind of already know what we are going to order, and we did. My Wife is going with one of her usuals, their "Happy Hour Nachos" ($6.50), listed as 'Roasted Pork Nachos' on the main menu. Slow Roasted Pork, Chipotle Sauce, Tomatoes, Cilantro, Black Beans, Cheddar Cheese over lots of Fresh Chips with Green sliced Jalapenos on one side, and Red sliced Jalapenos throughout the plate. I am going with the "Baja Fish Tacos", Blackened Baja Fish with Chipotle Sauce, and pickled Slaw. Served with Guacamole, Rice, Black Beans, and double Corn Tortillas for three Tacos. We placed our order with Sophia when she served our drinks. Then we toasted to Valentine's Day, and us. The bartenders here make the Best Jack-N-Cokes around. They are really good, smoooooooth, and go down easy. While we waited for our food, The Grill became busier and busier, with more people waiting. Glad we came a little early. Sophia stopped by, as well as one of the Managers checking on us to see if we needed anything. Service here is always tops. Soon our food arrived, and my Wife's Roasted Pork Nachos were served the same as they always have been, piled up high and covering the entire plate, and I might add, very colorful. I Love the way they prepare the Baja Fish Tacos with a Huge chunk of perfectly grilled fish all by itself next to the Rice & Black Beans, a large scoop of Fresh Guacamole, and several Corn Tortillas for you to make your own, with Pickled Slaw to the side. Both dishes are a Beautiful Presentation of Deliciousness that you will find nowhere else. The Grill does it right. My Wife's Nachos have a lot of melted cheese oozing everywhere with lots of corn chips and several pounds of Roasted Pulled Pork. Well, okay, maybe not 'pounds', but there are a lot of large chunks throughout this dish. She said it is delicious and loving that Pulled Pork. She ate about half of it and will take the rest home for a meal that will be for both of us - you get a lot of food at The Grill. I cut off a long chunk of fish, spread their Chipotle Sauce on a couple of corn tortillas, then the fish, topping it off with rice & black beans, guacamole, and their pickled slaw. This Fish Taco is Deliciousness and more. The perfectly grilled Baja Fish has lots of flavor with just enough spice from the chipotle sauce. I made three of these, each a little different, and they all were very Tastylicious. Each Taco was so filled with goodies I could not fold it over, and I ate them more like a Tostada instead. Either way, they are The Best. I also have some fish left over that I ate with the remaining sides, adding that chipotle sauce to each bite. I ate all of mine, with no leftovers to take home. While we were enjoying our food, Sophia said that she would like to take a picture of us with my camera because we are a cute couple. Hey, I couldn't disagree with that, so she did. Flattery will get you everywhere. Thank You Sophia. Well, guess what? Sophia earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm, and a nice tip. We boxed up my Wife's leftovers and headed home, and The Grill was still busy as ever when we left. This was a Great way to enjoy a Valentine's Day Dinner.

The restaurant is clean, the decor is nice, ample seating and very friendly staff. 4pm on a Tuesday we were seated quickly and probably about 4 other tables w/guest. I ordered nachos and my husband went for the beef burrito w/ beans and rice. FYI, I always order nachos as you can see from my Mexican restaurant reviews. My husband really liked his choice especially since they added the green sauce. Now for the nachos, a bit disappointing as they just looked plain compared to other nachos pictured in my previous reviews. We will come back but not sure what I will try.

"CELEBRATING ST. PATRICK'S DAY OUR WAY"…read more Yesterday was St Patrick's Day, you know, the day everyone thinks they are green and goes out to drink Green Beer. Well, my Lovely Green Wife and I also went out to drink Green Beer. Now remember what I have always said; "Green is good for you". So, that means that Green Beer is also good for you. We both are decked out in our Green and off we went. Well, it not only happens to be St. Patrick's Day, but in San Angelo they are having a Pub & Grub Crawl with 15 different places to crawl too on the map that we have. We can do that - so off we went. We parked right in the middle of where they show five locations. We started our crawling and guess what, we only see three locations here. Two of the five are empty buildings. Anyway, we crawled across the street and enjoyed a couple of Green Beers before having dinner. We walked down the street to get something to eat. No sense in crawling anymore, we didn't want to look stupid. On the corner is Fuentes Cafe Downtown for our early dinner. It's just before 4pm and this place has a lot of people here. I bet they thought it was the Pub & Grub Crawl and found out it was the day before - but who would do a thing like that. We were shown to a table and our Server, Darla, took our drink order. Two Green Beers to start. We looked over the menu while our Green Beers are being poured. Darla returned with their Warm Chips and Red Spicy Sauce for you to enjoy. We have been here before and we loved those chips and sauce. The Chips are thin and crispy and that sauce is just-right spicy. Our Green Beers arrived and they are a nice color of green, these really must be good for you. MMmmmmmmmm greenlyliciousness. Now it's time to order. My Wife is going with their "Guiso Burrito"; Large Warm Flour Tortilla stuffed with Guiso Stew Meat simmered in a seasoned sauce. Requested the burrito to be no topping of sauce. I am having "Grilled Fish Tacos" (three); Each has a strip of Grilled Fish Fillet, placed in soft Corn Tortilla with Guacamole, Cabbage & Pico de Gallo. Served with Rice & Refried Beans. While we waited we enjoying those Chips, Sauce and those Cold Green Beers. Soon our food arrived and my Wife's Guiso Burrito is Huge, with Mighty-Meaty-Chucks of Stew Meat inside. The presentation of my Fish Tacos is very impressive. They are all three stuffed to the top, with Pico de Gallo & Guac on a separate plate. Each taco also has it's own Lime Wedge and I squeezed them all dry on each taco, and topped them off even more with the Pico & Guac. The flavor of each one was Tacolicious with the fish being perfectly grilled. These are really, really gooooood. The Rice and Refried Beans were also very fresh and flavorful. I Love Tacos and these were the right choice for me. My Wife LoVeD her Guiso Burrito and said the meat was very Tendertastylicious and loving that sauce. She let me have a couple of bites and I totally agree, this was some good stuff. Fuentes Cafe Downtown was the right choice for us for our Grub and we didn't have to crawl here to enjoy some Mighty-Meaty chunks of Guiso Stew Meat and those Fresh Fish Tacos. Darla earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. She also wanted Nancy in the picture I took, so we obliged. When we left, we walked to our truck, not going to crawl when we don't have to. Just for the record, the map I copied does show 15 places for the Pub & Grub Crawl but two of those five shown on this street are permanently closed. So, it wasn't my fault, but one day I will learn how to read the small fine print showing the actual date. But on my behalf, in my youth I could of crawled to all fifteen locations, but I'm glad it was only one we crawled into. This was a very fun outing that we both enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Love You Baby, Bunches & Pub&GrubMunches.
