We were visiting Williz for the skunk train ride when we stopped by this Mexican restaurant. It's run by a very happy and friendly owner. Loved the service and the food. Their portion size is very good. Food was full of flavors and delicious.

Albondigas comes with delicious rice and tortillas; chips and assorted salsa and bean dip were complimentary.

First the chips, trip of salsas, and refried beans exceeded expectations. Then the albondigas sent me! Everything about that soup was perfection from the meatballs, to the veggies, and broth. The rice that came with amplified the flavorb in the best way. This place is a gem and a must try.

Damn delicious. We discovered El Chicano in Willits, and I can say that I wish that I had some of the pollo de Mole right now. The wait staff is sweet and attentive. We were seated right away, and chips with four different salsas were brought with the menus. Yummmm! We ordered two crispy tacos, one with carnitas, and Asada in the other. They arrived loaded with tasty meat, and covered with cheese. They were loaded! The mole... I'm in love. It was so freaking delicious!! We couldn't get enough. The portions were very generous, and because it was so good, I still want more. I'm telling you, it's THE thing to order. If you're on the area, or passing through, it's a must try!

Good Mexican food restaurant. Great customer service. Food was good and portion was large. It came when some chips three types of salsas and a small side of bean dip for appetizers. Food was good and if we're in the area, we would come here again. Price was decent Bonus, they had pancakes for my picky child. The menu also have pictures, so you know what you're getting and the food looks just like what's pictured.

Was skeptical for stopping by this little town for food, seemed like a ghost town and at 10pm there were not that many food options left. This was one of the few places that was open late, thankfully. We were driving a long drive from crescent city to the bay. The mexican food here is seasoned well and tasty. If you're checking the reviews to see if you should go there, I recomend you go there. they accept card but tip is cash only. My partner and I only had card and he mentioned to the server we dont have cash. The server was kind about it and the service didn't change after my partner told him that. Most importantly; Food came out fast, food quality was great, ambiance was welcoming and lastly the serivce was easy going and warm. So glad we stopped by there. oh and anothung thing, my partner is vegetarian and they have vegetarian options as well! My favorite thing was the feeling I got, being freezing cold and then walking into the warm and cozy restaurant. Thank you to the servers for the good hospitality, thank you to the cook for making wonderful food and thank you to the owner for keeping the restaurant open later and having fair prices! Pazole hit the spot! & veggie fajitas plate was chefs kiss!

First off, the young man in the restaurant could not have been more helpful. We wanted to watch a basketball game and he was so helpful trying to find it for us. We couldn't get the game but ordered and watched on our phone. The salsas and beans were delish. My husband had the enchiladas and raved about them. If you find yourself driving through, you should stop.

The food is good a little bit different than what I am used to for Mexican food but definitely this did not disappoint me!

Would I come here again if I'm up in Willits Ca.? Yeah, is it great ? Na. Is it filling? How could two chicken enchiladas smothered in melted cheese be anything but filling. Maybe I shouldn't have loaded up on chips and their two thumb side cups of salsa and a bean dip mini bowl. If beer is what you're looking for, they have 15 on tap and a fridge full of bottles. I don't drink but if I did, I would partake here. The waitresses seem friendly and go about their business. Mexican food is Mexican food. My only dislike was was a smear of runny retried beans and heap of rice on the side could have been enhanced by a half a handful of shredded lettuce.... I won't have to eat dinner.... read more

If you follow where we eat this was the second place we ate at in Willits, CA and we both love Mexican food and we're really happy. I ordered the Fijitas and Monica ordered the enchiladas and it was solid food, healthy portions. I really enjoyed the service and it was clean. Please don't change because we'd come back. Also free chips and salsa. If you go to a Mexican resistant and they don't give you free chips and salsa I'd leave I'd get up and walk away. But these guys were awesome. Recommended read more

Customer Service: needs help. Tried to voice concerns to person in charge but he didn't want to accept it. As a family owned newer business you would think feedback would be welcomed. I still left 15% tip which is lower than I usually tip but in this case they were worthy of much less. The food was decent, not amazing. Prices: ok but they nickel and dime you for switching out beans. Like how much does a serving of beans cost, 25 cents? read more

Driving on 101 from north to south. Pulled off for a Sunday night dinner before all the spots closed. Luis took wonderful care of us. The tortilla chips and salsas were fresh and flavorful. And, with Luis's suggestion and encouragement - was able to order vegetable enchiladas with mole sauce. Let me tell you, as a veggie who loves mole sauce this is a rare accommodation. And the sauce from a recipe "from my grandma" as Luis said, was incredible. I sampled my friends' fish tacos: beautiful and fresh and the fajitas were spiced brilliantly. This place is very authentic and reasonably priced for the portion sizes. I enjoyed this location twice while I was in the town of Willits. The mole was smooth and had a very rich flavor and was so delicious! The meatball soup was also very flavorful and authentic, perfectly seasoned. They bring chips and a variety of salsas to munch on prior to getting the main courses. The waitstaff is very friendly and we received excellent customer service even with how busy this place can get. We will be back! Excellent! read more

Excellent burritos- we got 3 no-meat burritos, and one with carnitas. All of us were in love! So flavorful, and with a great variety of hot sauces to go with our chips- unique flavors for sure. But the best part was, the HORCHATA! I cannot believe there was no milk (not saying there was or wasn't, typically there is not though) since it was so creamy- not too sweet, and extra cinnamony- I would drive back through Willits just to get more of that amazing horchata- yum! read more

Food was great ! The service was also very nice, I ordered late night around 9:20ish , the guy had told me about 45 minutes. I showed up about 10 minutes after the original time given to make sure it was done and Realized the place was closed at that point but still dealing with me and one other couple . 10/10 recommend for anyone Lookin for sum authentic Mexican food in this area read more

While they're still working on their outside curb appeal, they're far ahead with their interior decor... but what makes this restaurant stand out is their success in finding and training great service and cooking staff. This is our go to Mexican restaurant in mendocino county now. It's a family run business will 1000% desire to deliver the the best service and food. The food comes to your table hot fresh and bursting with flavor. You will be bring food home too. We have been here twice now with the same super results. Service is watchful and timely. Once the food is placed the staff come back to your table to ask if your food is good and anything they can provide for your dining needs. The restaurant is clean and tasteful. We ate here for lunch today. What a pleasant surprise. Our meal started with chips and four types of salsa/dips that they brought to the table. One of the salsas had a really interesting flavor which we enjoyed (almost like it had turmeric or curry in it). We also had iced tea -- made fresh and ice cold. My boyfriend got one crispy taco with rice and black beans. I got to taste the rice and beans and thought they were well-cooked and flavorful. I got a soft taco with carnitas -- the pork was expertly cooked and very moist. At first, I thought the pork could use a bit more seasoning, but once I added some lime juice and salsa it was just perfect. For my second taco, I got the veggie taco. Wow, I've never had a taco like this before -- a medley of lovely cooked veggies (onions, squash, carrots). This veggie taco was my all-time favorite! Polite staff, a clean bathroom, very reasonably priced, and we could even keep the dog with us on the outside patio. I will definitely go here again when passing through Willits. read more

Beyond my expectations. Magnificent, from the beginning to end. Attentive staff, fast service and the food is as if your family prepared it for you. Had a $300 dollar dinner the night before in Monterey and I would pick El Chicano over that place anytime. Worth the detour off 101. We will be back! read more

Random town in the middle of the forest. The last thing on my mind was to stop at this Mexican restaurant and expect authentic Mexican food. The family decided to eat here so definitely had no choice but to expect the worst and hope for the best. With Expectations very low, I walked inside and everything looked very nice. The service was great. The chips came with salsa and refried beans, and just with those beginner items I could tell this place was going to taste good. We ordered a variety of items, and as a Mexican I can honestly say this food was delicious. We had the mole, fajitas, burritos, Chile verde, and tacos. Nothing was a disappointment. If I could put more stars then I would. This town is lucky to have a great restaurant like this. read more

Visiting the area. Tried this restaurant for dinner. I had the chicken enchiladas with green sauce, rice and beans. My friend had the steak fajitas. I really liked my chicken enchiladas. May of been the best I've ever had in a restaurant. The steak fajitas was ok. It had a spice in it that I didn't really care for. My friend loved it. They also serve chips with a variety of sauces. The family that runs this restaurant is from Oaxaca, where mole sauce was invented -- and they make their own. My husband had enchiladas verdes, which he said were just OK, but my chicken enchiladas with brown mole were delightful. Other reviewers who have complained about lack of flavor are probably referring to lack of heat. There is plenty of other flavor action going on, though. And the watermelon juice is amazing. read more

By far the best Mexican food in Willits. Wow wow wow. Amazing fresh drink options. (Pineapple fresco!) Food was delicious. I had fajitas. Boyfriend had enchiladas. Mom had chile rellenos. I think we all licked the plate clean. Amazing selection of salsas ranging from no spice to very spicy.... And hot warm beans for dipping! Most places don't have a zero spice option. Loved that! My wife and I went there twice. They completely ignored us. Said we will be with you in a minute and never came. No beer on tap which made for a worse experience. I've been to multiple Mexican restaurants and had way better service at those restaurants than El Chicano. Wife and I will never go there again. read more

They'll adjust dishes for taste or dietary needs and pretty much anything can be made vegetarian, which makes it easy when you're dining with different preferences. There's also plenty of seating, which makes it great whether you're coming in solo, with family, or with a group. For me this wasn't just a meal, it was a reminder of a place I used to enjoy back on the coast, and it was nice to find that same quality and consistency still alive here. I'll definitely be back.

The food is good here. And when the whole country was on lockdown,they provided a nice patio to eat outside and have a beer. My review is solely on service. In hopes that the owner sees this and can try their best to find some help. I understand we are in a time,where finding reliable help is very difficult. However, I watched this business suffer today while waiting for my food. There is only 2 boys working the FOH. A busser/food runner would have SAVED them. But these two boys are taking tables inside and outside, answering phones,making margaritas, exchanging money and are expected to clean tables in between. This is absurd and the business suffered greatly bc of it. The people were nonstop. The phones were nonstop. People were seating themselves at dirty tables. People were obviously upset. I'm a regular and have been in the restaurant business,so I'm forgiving and I'll be back. But some of those people I saw today,will not be back. And it's a shame bc the food is good. The boys that are struggling to hold it together, ARE GOOD. But they desperately need help. I hope the new owner sees this review and hires new help,or starts helping themselves. It's not fair to those two boys working their butts off. Remember...new business owners don't get days off! They should be present everyday to help out WHEREVER needed.
