I left a previous review about the poor service we received. I just found out that it was a new employee that made the mistake and the owners bent over backwards to make it right. Thank you. read more

Great Mexican food at a very good price. Love their salsa and chips. Servers are very nice.

Just had lunch today and the chicken fajita platter was AMAZING! HUGE portion (especially for a lunch menu!)... the veggies were Crisp and fresh! Great flavors throughout every bite, the house salsa was spicy, but not extreme... the HOT SALSA was VERY HOT AND SOO GOOD... ALMOST LICKED THE BOWL TO GET IT ALL! Staff were all very friendly and our waitress TANYA took care of our every need rapidly. LOVED THE FOOD, PEOPLE, DECOR ... ALL IF IT. We look forward to be able to go back... just sad that it will be about a month before we can... SEE YOU THEN! read more

The food here is great! They have a large menu with friendly and fast service to boot. The place is always clean and has plenty of seating for when it gets crowded. This is a great place for lunch here in West Plains with great lunch specials. read more

El Charro - Mexican Flag Enchiladas - Mexican Near Me - West Plains, Missouri

El Charro is top tier when it comes to their food; however, the service is always rushed. Although they get you sat, ordered, and served quickly, it feels chaotic and rushed. I go to restaurants for good food and good company; but when they try to run you thru and get you out in 20mins it ruins the experience. read more

I was excited to see what Mexican food was in Missouri. I've heard so much about it. Everything comes with the white cheese called queso ! Kind of like a nacho cheese but white . They had a vegetarian section. I was really craving for chili Reno's I didn't think about the cheese inside. Lo and behold it was the famous queso . Definitely different . I was a little bummed that they didn't have Frijoles de la olla . Which means beans from the pot. As someone who doesn't eat, pork, refried beans are made with lard . This is the reason why I usually miss out on eating at Mexican restaurants. My best friends, mom was a little upset that the taco shells weren't made fresh. Besides that the restaurant was beautiful. The staff was so nice and attentive ! I was able to use my Spanish. They sing Las mañanitas to my best friend for her birthday and smashed whip cream all over her face. It was a wonderful night to celebrate my best friends birthday. I'll never forget it #5Stars read more

Prices are too high and it's just not good enough to pay those prices, they used to be really good and prices were comperable

Ordered 2 burritos and a chicken platter. The plates came out super hot, but the rice on the chicken platter was bone cold as well as part of the chicken too. Hate to say this but I'm almost 99.99% sure that my entire tables meal was microwaved because we ordered, and within minutes, food was on the table. I'm not even joking. We ordered and within 4 minutes our food was on the table. I was in this restaurant for probably 25 total minutes. I was the only person in my party to finish their meal, only because it was so expensive! Idk why anyone says that this place is affordable, because it is not. Atmosphere was dimly lit, I'm sure for a reason, decor was nice and so was my server, but close to $55 for an obviously microwaved meal is insane. Also, the employees got to stand around and I know why, they grab your items, throw them on a place and place it into the microwave and boom! Dinner is served. Even the fries were microwaved. When I got to the middle of mine, they were soggy and cold. So was the beef in both burritos. read more

El Charro - The Cantina - Mexican Near Me - West Plains, Missouri

Very cool, I will definitely return. What are the pros? The food in general was good The fajitas were amazing and they have a nice lunch special where you still have enough for a second meal It was easy to talk and enjoy conversation. Wide variety on the menu. The decor was interesting. The hostess was cool with a cool haircut. What can be improved? The margaritas were syrupy, not sure why. Our waiter didn't tell me he didn't speak English. I'm extremely allergic to Shrimp, he thought I wanted shrimp. He often didn't respond when asked questions, so at first I thought he was ignoring me. He should just disclose the language gap, and it would make things easier. The chairs weren't too comfortable. They had a half booth, why not just have a full one? The chips and salsa were good but for a table of three more salsa should be offered. Alcoholic drinks aren't on the menu, but they are sold so you'd have to ask for them. I'm not sure why they don't just print it, but I have a couple guesses. Overall, I had a positive experience and would eat there again. read more

I absolutely love the ambience and the service is fantastic! Everybody's so friendly. The food is your basic standard fair at an American Mexican restaurant but it's very consistent and always good. And their Patron margaritas are simply delicious! read more

We literally drove around most of the morning looking for breakfast the Sunday after the 4th of July. So glad we found this place, it was amazing! The service, the quality and quantity of food!! I ended up taking half of my meal home, couldn't finish. Nothing bad to say about this place, very attentive waiter and staff, friendly. We were visiting from out of state and we'll definitely be making our way back to this place! read more

Amazing food! Margaritas were on point and service was great! Highly recommend. Party of 12 was no problem.

It's a good restaurant with subpar food and never have to worry about waiting for chips or salsa. The service is good as well regardless of what day of the week you go for decent Mexican cuisine. read more

Delicious food, fast service, and great margaritas! My favorite restaurant in town! I'm a regular!

Some of the very best Mexican food you can get anywhere! Large portions and fast service.

Best Mexican spot in town. Locals come here all the time. Great food at a great price. Just ordered take out and the only flaw was that the fish tacos didn't come with their amazing sauce. Also the salsa wasn't much for the chips they throw in. But everything else was great read more

It's ok. Pretty much like every other Mexican restaurant you'll eat at. Good chips and salsa. They're pretty sparse on the queso when it comes on food and it's pretty thin so it doesn't stay on long. Service is usually good. Idk of anything that really makes it stand out. read more

We went off of yelps recommendations and we were not disappointed at all. This place has a nice authentic atmosphere and the food was delicious. The salsa we very flavorful, not to spicy. My husband dose not care for tomatoes so our very friend server made ours fresh just how he likes it, delicious. The margaritas were also very good. read more

The food and service were just okay. The restaurant itself is cool. The food needs more flavor and the refried beans were pale.

Awesome food! We loved the food! Party of twelve no problem! Strawberry margarita amazing!

Best Mexican in WP! Eat here once a month! Great service and the best food love coming here

This is my favorite place to get together with friends! I've been a regular for at least 20 years now and though the pandemic has changed things a bit, this is still one of my favorite restaurants in town! The service is quick, they're always very friendly and the food is delicious! Some of my favorites are the Street Tacos (Tacos De La Calle), Molcajete Mexicano and The 3 Neighbors. They have the best tasting chips and salsa and if you really wanna go all out get the cheese dip! Its amazing! They're drinks are also pretty tasty if you're in the mood. read more

The food was VERY good. The service was as well. Friendly place. Good margaritas too. I don't think you'll be disappointed

Holyyyy I need El charro's back I'm mad I'm gonna go crazy this is the best Mexican restaurant everrrr

Actually pretty impressed by this find! Visiting from a larger city and this restaurant rivals some of the better Mexican restaurants I've been to. Quick service, decent margaritas, good queso! I got the cheese camarones- wish peppers were included with the onions but overall great. I'll be back the next time I'm in WP! read more

Best Mexican in the area. Terrific dishes. Always flavorful and authentic. Huge portions, so great value as well.

Were from out of state someone recommend. Plain from the outside boy was I surprised the inside very cool looking and colorful I like that. They are not shy on the chips and salsa which were bomb. The food is priced right and very tasty. Service is on point the waiter came and checked on us lots. We visit again... read more

What a great find! Good Mexican in West Plains. I had the lunch fajitas with rice n beans. I tasted the beans first, and they were good. I tried the rice---excellent. Then the fajitas---best I've ever had! Great service. I was seated immediately and had my water, chips, n salsa within a minute. The waitress was awesome. The salsa was tasty, but had no kick. I asked for a hotter sauce. They delivered a rich, spicy concoction that was perfect. Great job, El Charro! I will be back. read more

El Charro - a plate of food on a table - Mexican Near Me - West Plains, Missouri

Being a pretty steady customer at El charro, due to my love of Mexican food, I have noticed the changes that were made over the years. El charro was once very good and you could never finish all of your food, yet somehow you still had to eat the fried Ice cream. Slowly but surely El charro has been cutting their portions of food you get and even started using a much thinner tortilla chip. I started to pull myself away and found other options for mexican food. After several months I finally decided to go back and thats when I realized they were back! WELCOME BACK EL CHARRO! Your food is delicious once again. Portions could still be a little bigger but the quality is back just like how I remember. read more

The last place we ever thought we would find good Mexican food. We were driving through and thought Mexican sounded good but did not expect much for the area were in. The food was very close to the TexMex we were used to. They even has salsa picosa. All in all we were pleased with our meal. This place would not get 4 stars most other places but in this area I thought the 4th star was deserved. read more

We stopped here on our way home from Memphis based on the reviews. The food was delicious and fast! We loved the atmosphere....you would never know how great this place is judging from the outside! We had the fish tacos and enchiladas verdes. Everything tasted great! Even the rice was tender and flavorful! Will surely come back the next time we drive through here. read more

Bland food, not-so-great service. They didn't even bother to season their ground beef and their salsa didn't even have spice to it. If one building has mice in a strip-mall, all of them do! Saw the little furry critter in the back room of the GameStop next door and he darted straight for El Charro! read more

Solid. Good Mexican food (not a bad dish on the menu) and great service. Recommend the Chili Verde or Colorado, Chiles Poblanos, or the Tacos San Pedro. Being a resident of West Plains, I have tried almost everything. For what it is, a restaurant in West Plains, it is good. Not the best food that I've ever eaten in this price range, but good enough for a four star rating. read more

This used to be one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in West Plains but last week when we were there, we were very disappointed. I don't know what happened but we won't be going back. The refried beans were nearly WHITE and although they still tasted like refried beans, I didn't eat them. I have never have WHITE refried beans in any Mexican restaurant in my life. They are supposed to be BROWN, not WHITE! The rest of our food was either dripping with or sitting in a pool of grease. It was very unappetizing! I think we must have picked up something while we were there because that evening I was sick and the morning my Dad was having digestive issues that lasted for days. We won't be going back. read more
