Just had lunch today and the chicken fajita platter was AMAZING! HUGE portion (especially for a lunch menu!)... the veggies were Crisp and fresh! Great flavors throughout every bite, the house salsa was spicy, but not extreme... the HOT SALSA was VERY HOT AND SOO GOOD... ALMOST LICKED THE BOWL TO GET IT ALL! Staff were all very friendly and our waitress TANYA took care of our every need rapidly. LOVED THE FOOD, PEOPLE, DECOR ... ALL IF IT. I was excited to see what Mexican food was in Missouri. I've heard so much about it. Everything comes with the white cheese called queso ! Kind of like a nacho cheese but white . They had a vegetarian section. I was really craving for chili Reno's I didn't think about the cheese inside. Lo and behold it was the famous queso . Definitely different . I was a little bummed that they didn't have Frijoles de la olla . Which means beans from the pot. As someone who doesn't eat, pork, refried beans are made with lard . This is the reason why I usually miss out on eating at Mexican restaurants. My best friends, mom was a little upset that the taco shells weren't made fresh. Besides that the restaurant was beautiful. The staff was so nice and attentive ! I was able to use my Spanish. They sing Las mañanitas to my best friend for her birthday and smashed whip cream all over her face. Ordered 2 burritos and a chicken platter. The plates came out super hot, but the rice on the chicken platter was bone cold as well as part of the chicken too. Hate to say this but I'm almost 99.99% sure that my entire tables meal was microwaved because we ordered, and within minutes, food was on the table. I'm not even joking. We ordered and within 4 minutes our food was on the table. I was in this restaurant for probably 25 total minutes. I was the only person in my party to finish their meal, only because it was so expensive! Idk why anyone says that this place is affordable, because it is not. Atmosphere was dimly lit, I'm sure for a reason, decor was nice and so was my server, but close to $55 for an obviously microwaved meal is insane. Also, the employees got to stand around and I know why, they grab your items, throw them on a place and place it into the microwave and boom! Dinner is served. Even the fries were microwaved. Very cool, I will definitely return. What are the pros? The food in general was good The fajitas were amazing and they have a nice lunch special where you still have enough for a second meal It was easy to talk and enjoy conversation. Wide variety on the menu. The decor was interesting. The hostess was cool with a cool haircut. What can be improved? The margaritas were syrupy, not sure why. Our waiter didn't tell me he didn't speak English. I'm extremely allergic to Shrimp, he thought I wanted shrimp. He often didn't respond when asked questions, so at first I thought he was ignoring me. He should just disclose the language gap, and it would make things easier. The chairs weren't too comfortable. They had a half booth, why not just have a full one? The chips and salsa were good but for a table of three more salsa should be offered. Alcoholic drinks aren't on the menu, but they are sold so you'd have to ask for them. I'm not sure why they don't just print it, but I have a couple guesses. We literally drove around most of the morning looking for breakfast the Sunday after the 4th of July. So glad we found this place, it was amazing! The service, the quality and quantity of food!! We went off of yelps recommendations and we were not disappointed at all. This place has a nice authentic atmosphere and the food was delicious. The salsa we very flavorful, not to spicy. I've been a regular for at least 20 years now and though the pandemic has changed things a bit, this is still one of my favorite restaurants in town! Some of my favorites are the Street Tacos (Tacos De La Calle), Molcajete Mexicano and The 3 Neighbors.They have the best tasting chips and salsa and if you really wanna go all out get the cheese dip! What a great find! Good Mexican in West Plains. I had the lunch fajitas with rice n beans. I tasted the beans first, and they were good. I tried the rice---excellent. Then the fajitas---best I've ever had! Great service. I was seated immediately and had my water, chips, n salsa within a minute. The waitress was awesome. The salsa was tasty, but had no kick. Being a pretty steady customer at El charro, due to my love of Mexican food, I have noticed the changes that were made over the years. El charro was once very good and you could never finish all of your food, yet somehow you still had to eat the fried Ice cream. Slowly but surely El charro has been cutting their portions of food you get and even started using a much thinner tortilla chip. I started to pull myself away and found other options for mexican food. After several months I finally decided to go back and thats when I realized they were back! WELCOME BACK EL CHARRO! The last place we ever thought we would find good Mexican food. We were driving through and thought Mexican sounded good but did not expect much for the area were in. The food was very close to the TexMex we were used to. They even has salsa picosa. All in all we were pleased with our meal. We stopped here on our way home from Memphis based on the reviews. The food was delicious and fast! We loved the atmosphere....you would never know how great this place is judging from the outside! This used to be one of our favorite Mexican restaurants in West Plains but last week when we were there, we were very disappointed. I don't know what happened but we won't be going back. The refried beans were nearly WHITE and although they still tasted like refried beans, I didn't eat them. I have never have WHITE refried beans in any Mexican restaurant in my life. They are supposed to be BROWN, not WHITE! The rest of our food was either dripping with or sitting in a pool of grease. It was very unappetizing! I think we must have picked up something while we were there because that evening I was sick and the morning my Dad was having digestive issues that lasted for days.
