I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant. My boyfriend and I had our first date here and we love going back! There are plenty of options on the menu. I recommend their Taquitos Con Queso or or their quesadillas! And if you like margaritas, this is the place to go! I have never had an issue with the service either. The servers are very friendly, they check up on you to make sure you have enough to drink, and he food typically comes quick. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! read more

Love El Charros! The food is good, staff is great and nice. Have a great atmosphere as well! Do wish they'd stop losing their liquor license so I could get their margs again but oh well! Definitely is the best Mexican option in town! read more

When you go in there i guarantee you there will always be someone vacuuming, but funny enough the place will NEVER look clean. Foods good though. read more

Was in Iola for the weekend, and was told that this was the best Mexican restaurant in town. I would describe the food as Tex-mex, not exactly authentic. Still very delicious however! read more

El Charro of Iola - Tacos and Michelada - Mexican Near Me - Iola, Kansas

I grew up in the area so its always nice to visit restaurants that I have been around for awhile. I have never been disappointed by any visit here over the years. The service is always nice, very quick, and efficient. I am easy to please especially when you can make sure delicious Mexican food makes it to my mouth as quickly as possible. I'm not crazy, you're crazy! Regardless, I am always forcing more food than my body can handle because I just can't stop the goodness. Another selling point is the fact that you get a lot of food for a really decent price. read more

My friends and I went and ate here. Staff was nice. Food was okay. But we paid and then next day the charge went up $10 because, the store put a $10 tip on our ticket, we went in to see about this and the manager had a whole attitude with us. Not impressed!!!!! read more

Salsa tastes like old marinara sauce with Mexican spices. Food was out less than 4 minutes after we ordered but that's not a good thing. Chicken was still clumped together from being reheated in a bag and on a steam table. Shredded beef in taquitos was over cooked and tasted sweet. The best part was the nice server and the guacamole. read more

I've been here 3-4 times. Salsa is thicker than most and has great flavor. Their lunch chicken fajitas came with a really good sized portion and great flavor. It came with beans, rice, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and pico de gallo. It's a clean place with a vaquero theme. Good service and prices. read more

Service was fast and friendly and the food was yummy. For a town with 3 restaurants this is about as good as it gets :) read more

El Charro of Iola - mexican restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Iola, Kansas

A few years' back this was a pretty good Mexican Restaurant. I recently (December 2015) was home for the holidays and had visited twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. PLEASE, whoever owns this restaurant downsize the menu and perfect the dishes. I really want this place to be good considering it is one of a few restaurants in town. The salsa was like ketchup, the enchilada sauce was something close to spaghetti sauce, the taquitos were a fried mess, guacamole?, and the chicken on the nacho robles, that should have been pollo asada was just.... chicken. PLEASE, downsize your menu and improve the quality. Staff was nice and accommodating but I would not return for that. I would go even it the service lacked if they had good food. read more

We spend winters in Tucson so this review will be in relationship to all the wonderful Mexican restaurants (Sonoran) we frequent there. El Charro is an attractive and clean restaurant with interesting decor. The staff are friendly and efficient. The chips were very good as was the salsa, if somewhat mild, probably for the local tastes. The prices were on par with the less expensive restaurants in Tucson. Quantities were generous. The food certainly is not authentic as there were mostly non-Mexican dishes such as fajitas, burrtos but no authentic dishes like machaca, chilaquiles, or pozole; there appeared to be no traditional Mexican seasonings such as cumin and epazote, and some items, like the chalupas were not at all like you would find in Mexico. No Mexican cheese on top of enchiladas or tacos, just shredded American cheese. Tortillas were factory produced, and dishes were smothered in iceberg lettuce and tomatoes, with a dollop of American sour cream, very Tex-Mex. However, this popular place serves up generous portions of inexpensive Americanized "Mexican" food. No Mexicans eating here! You gotta give them credit for doing the best they can in a locale that probably prefers this type of food. read more

Love everything about this restaurant. Great food, good staff, clean environment. I've eaten here more times than I can count.

Great spot for a small town. Typical Mexican restaurant food & flavor. The portions were big, service was speedy, prices very reasonable. I'd go back. The cheese dip was tasty & the chile con queso was good too! read more

This is a standard Mexican restaurant. I ordered the fajitas and they were decent. The meat was a little tough, but the vegetables were good. I also like the chips and salsa. If you're feeling Mexican, stop by. read more

Stopped here on our way through as we were looking for something other than fast food and not much else was open. The salsa was horrible- tasted like spaghetti sauce. The food came out in literally 4 minutes and was disgusting. The chicken made me feel sick it was cooked so poorly and it had no flavor at all. The only good part was the guacamole wasn't terrible. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

The staff was friendly. Not impressed with the food. The salsa is bad. The food seemed frozen and heated in a microwave. I was hoping the 3 star review were just bad days but If I judged by food alone 3 stars is generous. read more

Chicken pozole verde is amazing! Wow! I was lucky to show up when they had it on special. All traditional ingredients fresh and authentic. Seriously the most impressive traditional dish I've had in Kansas. Hats off. read more

First time I was here was during my job interview at the local radio station. The free chips were amazing, as was the salsa. Portion sizes are huge, prices very reasonable. Drinks come in almost barrel size plastic glasses with free refills. Have yet to have anything that didn't taste hot and fresh. A regular place for lunch and many times for dinner and fun with friends. Service is excellent. The restaurant is clean, and just a fun place to go. read more

Several locals recommended this restaurant. Portions are huge. I tried the Californian Burrito which was colossal. The Mexican food is average tasting. Domestic bottled beers are only $2.00...incredible. Menu items are cheap as well. Service was quick. read more

If they offered a negative rating it would be -5! I got in town with my co-workers last night and the hotel clerk suggested this place. 8 of us went. The food was sub par at best. I couldn't even finish my food! My co-worker ordered did to go and never got it. They started vacuuming and cleaning while we were still eating. It was clear they wanted us out. I had to find a waiter twice so our table could get refills of our drinks. Not even an hour later I started getting sick. I threw up and had diarrhea all night and still the next day. I found it the next day that for others were sick too. read more

Food is bland and service is mediocre. Lots to choose from on the menu, but unfortunately nothing on the menu is very good.

I ordered the chicken fajitas and it was really good. Service was great, price is right and salsa was a little blah...but overall it's good. read more

It was Ok. Food was quick, service was Ok as well. Pretty reasonably priced. Salsa was pretty tasty.

Once I went into El Charro, I knew this place would be good. The atmosphere is great, and surprisingly it matches the taste of its food, both in genre and quality. I was very impressed with the rice and beans; it tasted good not bland. Meals are colorful and wide in variety. You will be full, and at very reasonable prices. read more

Best service in town, very fast to get food to table. Love the salsa & chips. Generous servings & certainly the best budget friendly restaurant - lots of food for a few dollars. We eat here at once a week & take all out of town friends. Highly recommend. If you don't like Mexican, they'll even make you a hamburger & fries. If you want hotter, if you have food intolerances - they are always willing to work with you. read more

My family eats here about any chance we get, and relatives from the city make a point of stopping here to have lunch if they're in the area. The portions are huge, the food is of consistently good quality, and the staff are friendly and efficient. I've never left hungry after a meal at El Charros, and I usually have leftovers for a few more meals as well! read more

I love the salsa, & I am picky salsa eater. I always eat the chicken fajita taco salad, its to die for. The service is great and the waiters are amazing. Always a fun environment, & super friendly. They're clean and they are very well priced. read more

Varied and extensive traditional Mexican food. The food is prepared well and quickly . They have a friendly and professional wait staff. The prices are reasonable . I have eaten in Mexican restaurants across the country and this serves as good of food as any. read more

Service every time has been good, there's a man there that goes beyond his abilities to please the customers, he brought me REAL salsa not the one at the table, (dont go on asking for it if u cant handle habaneros) I just wish that they had a few other things, one thing if this place is called El Charro I expect charro beans. Lemonade, I want real lemonade not powder lemonade i dont care for a refill if the lemonade is gonna be real lemonade, portions are good and i really wish the food wasn't smothered in cheese. I want chiles rellenos but not with oaxaca cheese, i want panela or queso fresco. Wheres the asado de puerco? I still dont know to this day what a chimichanga is.... And i dont care to know this is an invention from the US not mexican at all. I want red tortilla enchiladas, with panela or queso fresco, not encheeseladas, flautas with shredded chicken breast meat. I understand the need to please both worlds but myself as a Mexican didnt feel like I got what I was expecting. No complaints abt service, portions are big, prices are reasonable and affordable, i want to hear mariachi music when I walk in here. I want to feel like i am close to home even though im very far away. I still need to find out if they have micheladas, and I mean real micheladas not what they sell in a can. Dont know if they have mexican beer, but Indio, Pacifico and Modelo Especial would be good to have with a meal. (Bottle) and I've NEVER gotten sick coming here. read more

reasonable prices, nice quick lunch menu, good service, a great place to meet Iola folks.
