I grew up in the area so its always nice to visit restaurants that I have been around for awhile. I have never been disappointed by any visit here over the years. The service is always nice, very quick, and efficient. I am easy to please especially when you can make sure delicious Mexican food makes it to my mouth as quickly as possible. I'm not crazy, you're crazy! Regardless, I am always forcing more food than my body can handle because I just can't stop the goodness. My friends and I went and ate here. Staff was nice. Food was okay. But we paid and then next day the charge went up $10 because, the store put a $10 tip on our ticket, we went in to see about this and the manager had a whole attitude with us. Not impressed!!!!! read more

Salsa tastes like old marinara sauce with Mexican spices. Food was out less than 4 minutes after we ordered but that's not a good thing. Chicken was still clumped together from being reheated in a bag and on a steam table. Shredded beef in taquitos was over cooked and tasted sweet. I've been here 3-4 times. Salsa is thicker than most and has great flavor. Their lunch chicken fajitas came with a really good sized portion and great flavor. It came with beans, rice, guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and pico de gallo. It's a clean place with a vaquero theme. Good service and prices. read more

A few years' back this was a pretty good Mexican Restaurant. I recently (December 2015) was home for the holidays and had visited twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. PLEASE, whoever owns this restaurant downsize the menu and perfect the dishes. I really want this place to be good considering it is one of a few restaurants in town. The salsa was like ketchup, the enchilada sauce was something close to spaghetti sauce, the taquitos were a fried mess, guacamole?, and the chicken on the nacho robles, that should have been pollo asada was just.... chicken. PLEASE, downsize your menu and improve the quality. Staff was nice and accommodating but I would not return for that. I would go even it the service lacked if they had good food. read more

We spend winters in Tucson so this review will be in relationship to all the wonderful Mexican restaurants (Sonoran) we frequent there. El Charro is an attractive and clean restaurant with interesting decor. The staff are friendly and efficient. The chips were very good as was the salsa, if somewhat mild, probably for the local tastes. The prices were on par with the less expensive restaurants in Tucson. Quantities were generous. The food certainly is not authentic as there were mostly non-Mexican dishes such as fajitas, burrtos but no authentic dishes like machaca, chilaquiles, or pozole; there appeared to be no traditional Mexican seasonings such as cumin and epazote, and some items, like the chalupas were not at all like you would find in Mexico. No Mexican cheese on top of enchiladas or tacos, just shredded American cheese. Tortillas were factory produced, and dishes were smothered in iceberg lettuce and tomatoes,with a dollop of American sour cream, very Tex-Mex. However, this popular place serves up generous portions of inexpensive Americanized "Mexican" food. No Mexicans eating here! You gotta give them credit for doing the best they can in a locale that probably prefers this type of food. read more

Stopped here on our way through as we were looking for something other than fast food and not much else was open. The salsa was horrible- tasted like spaghetti sauce. The food came out in literally 4 minutes and was disgusting. The chicken made me feel sick it was cooked so poorly and it had no flavor at all. The only good part was the guacamole wasn't terrible. I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant. My boyfriend and I had our first date here and we love going back! There are plenty of options on the menu. I recommend their Taquitos Con Queso or or their quesadillas! And if you like margaritas, this is the place to go! I have never had an issue with the service either. The servers are very friendly, they check up on you to make sure you have enough to drink, and he food typically comes quick. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! read more

First time I was here was during my job interview at the local radio station. The free chips were amazing, as was the salsa. Portion sizes are huge, prices very reasonable. Drinks come in almost barrel size plastic glasses with free refills. Have yet to have anything that didn't taste hot and fresh. A regular place for lunch and many times for dinner and fun with friends. Service is excellent. The restaurant is clean, and just a fun place to go. read more

If they offered a negative rating it would be -5! I got in town with my co-workers last night and the hotel clerk suggested this place. 8 of us went. The food was sub par at best. I couldn't even finish my food! My co-worker ordered did to go and never got it. They started vacuuming and cleaning while we were still eating. It was clear they wanted us out. I had to find a waiter twice so our table could get refills of our drinks. Not even an hour later I started getting sick. I threw up and had diarrhea all night and still the next day. Best service in town, very fast to get food to table. Love the salsa & chips. Generous servings & certainly the best budget friendly restaurant - lots of food for a few dollars. We eat here at once a week & take all out of town friends. Highly recommend. If you don't like Mexican, they'll even make you a hamburger & fries. The portions are huge, the food is of consistently good quality, and the staff are friendly and efficient. Service every time has been good, there's a man there that goes beyond his abilities to please the customers, he brought me REAL salsa not the one at the table, (dont go on asking for it if u cant handle habaneros) I just wish that they had a few other things, one thing if this place is called El Charro I expect charro beans. Lemonade, I want real lemonade not powder lemonade i dont care for a refill if the lemonade is gonna be real lemonade, portions are good and i really wish the food wasn't smothered in cheese. I want chiles rellenos but not with oaxaca cheese, i want panela or queso fresco. Wheres the asado de puerco? I still dont know to this day what a chimichanga is.... And i dont care to know this is an invention from the US not mexican at all. I want red tortilla enchiladas, with panela or queso fresco, not encheeseladas, flautas with shredded chicken breast meat. I understand the need to please both worlds but myself as a Mexican didnt feel like I got what I was expecting. No complaints abt service, portions are big, prices are reasonable and affordable, i want to hear mariachi music when I walk in here. I want to feel like i am close to home even though im very far away. I still need to find out if they have micheladas, and I mean real micheladas not what they sell in a can.
