We love El Charrito! Their food never disappointed. We've been to the other locations and are glad the quality is the same here. The place is really nice and clean, plenty of seating and parking. The staff were really nice even though we came close to closing. We ordered: - Chili Verde Burrito: not spicy but had a nice kick, good portion! I love how fresh the tortillas are. - Potato taquitos: first time trying these and loved them. Crispy and tasty. It's nothing fancy but hits the spot. I got it with their mild salsa. - chips and guac: their chips are always fresh and crispy and the guac is simple but we love the lime flavor. Chunks of avocado! - Horchata: sweet and creamy. El Charrito, I really hope you can bring the Marina location up to the same standard as your Salinas restaurant. The Salinas location consistently serves exceptional food, but while the Marina location is still good, it just doesn't measure up. One of the biggest differences is the portion sizes--they're noticeably smaller in Marina, even though the prices are the same. That's hard to overlook. The customer service could also use some improvement. A little more friendliness goes a long way, especially when customers are tipping on to-go orders. On the positive side, the tortillas are outstanding, and the operation is incredibly efficient. Even when there's a long line, it moves quickly, and you're never waiting very long for your food. I genuinely enjoy El Charrito and want the Marina location to succeed. With larger portions and a warmer customer experience, it could easily be just as good as the Salinas location. read more

The Cannery Row waterfront location is great and has good parking. No complaints about the food but service was a little disorganized (understaffed maybe?), but not a big deal. Prices are ok, but what is it with the "stinking" SURCHARGE????? Knoking one star off because of that. Just be honest with the prices up front. Because of your SURCHARGE, I don't plan on coming back (we had a group of 9). read more

I've been eagerly waiting for this El Charrito location to open ever since it was announced. I've been to both the downtown Monterey location as well as the Salinas location, and I can confirm that this one hits the spot just like the rest. There's something magical about those tortillas that elevate the burrito up and above any other spot in town. The burritos are also the perfect size to be handheld (and you can pocket one for the beach). I think today might be their first (non)official soft opening (2/19/2026) because we were able to pop in and pop out with a burrito in no time. I haven't been to an El Charrito without a line before! I expect this place to (soon) be frequently visited by everyone in the neighborhood as well as people driving by. Service is quick, friendly, and efficient. I come here multiple times a week and it's been great until the last two when they started using cheaper cut of meat and all you get is ligaments that you can't even chew. I really hope they stop doing this because they'll lose customers over this. We're supposed to get food that we can eat not spit out. read more

Been to all the El Charrito's in the area and this location is by far the most unorganized and lowest quality out of all of them. We placed a mobile pickup order for convenience, but it ended up being anything but convenient. The asada was stringy, tough, and cut inconsistently. The burritos had little to no sauce, and any modifications or add ons we paid for were completely ignored. Even though the items were numbered, none of them actually matched the numbering on the receipt, so we didn't even receive all of our food. At this point it's not even worth disputing the charges. We've always loved the El Charito in Salinas for its consistently good Mexican food. So we were eager to try out the new marina location. Prices are very reasonable because the burritos are on small side. We got there around noon on a busy Saturday afternoon and the first complaint I have is there is only two handicap spaces for three very busy restaurants right on the same block, that's ridiculous. We had to drive around and around until a space out front opened up because both my husband and I are handicapped and walking. A long ways is a difficulty for both of us. Once we got a parking spot, my husband walked in and ordered a food. It took him about 15 minutes to get the to go order. He had the Carnitas burrito and also one of the chili Verde burritos. He found them to be pretty bland and mediocre. I had the beef and potato taquitos. I got an order with guacamole and an order without guacamole. There's two per order. I've never seen taquitos like this and possibly this is a regional version of taquitos. It was really a fried taco. It was not rolled up at all. The meat was flavorful ground beef, unfortunately, the beef was cold and there was not enough salsa on it and they don't give you extra salsa with your order automatically. I didn't see any potatoes anywhere in my order so I guess it was all smashed up. The tortillas are crispy fried after they are filled and they put them in a nice little box and by the time I got home, the tortillas were totally soggy and were dripping with grease. Even the guacamole was very bland and flavorless. My husband said that they appeared to be premade because the server went and got them out of the refrigerator. I guess they're new and that could contribute to this, but they're going to have to really up their game if they want to compete with their Salinas location. Again, I've never seen taquitos that were anything except for meat and veggies, and then rolled up and fried. Does anybody know if this is a regional type of taquitos? read more

Very disappointed. Tortillas although fresh were coated in extra flour to keep them from sticking together making them so dry. Ordered barbacoa burrito and it needed salt. No salt available. Skip it and go to Chipotle. Taquitos $2.99 each with min order of 2. It was noon on a weekend and they did NOT have any chile rellenos. I have not yet tried any of the locations despite living in the area on my life. When they brought a new location to Marina I was excited to try. Unfortunately, the food is mediocre Mexican food. I got a carne asada burrito and the meat was a cheap cut with not much flavor. The portions were generous for both the rice and meat. The tortilla was indeed made freshly but tasted like they put too much flour on it and kind of tasted artificial. The price point was fair for the quality of food and the staff was friendly. I may go back to try another protein but they need to figure out the tortilla formula or making! read more

This is a hidden gem that mostly only Monterey locals know about. Best carnitas burrito around. Salinas location is top notch also, but I prefer the Monterey location. Location is super convenient, burrito was good (the salsa was great but the amount felt stingy.) The barbacoa was dry. The food was decent. The agua fresca were disappointing... why so much sugar? You can't taste the flavor because it tastes like pure sugar. The most disappointing was the person who helped me. She was so rude and just had an angry face. So much so that I couldn't bring myself to leave a tip... and I always tip due to having worked in a tipping environment. As a student from CSU Monterey Bay, I am 100% grateful El Charrito is walking distance from campus. Whenever we crave burritos for breakfast or lunch we head on over. We wish they were open for longer however the hours just make us eager until the next time we go. Our first time trying this place we were worried it was going to taste plain but once we saw the window inside displaying their hand made tortillas I knew this was going to hit! The burritos were so delicious, the soft flour tortilla was perfect, almost like I was back home :) I tried the huevo con chile and simple beans, cheese, and rice. The huevo con chile had the perfect amount of spice to it, some would probably want to add more to it but i think it was just right so that you could still enjoy the flavor from the beans and rice inside. The burritos are just the right size to take with you to the park or beach. The flavors are peak, very authentic. Very fast service, the outdoor seating is spacious, they make sure tables are clean. Since 1989 I have been a lifelong diehard el Charrito customer. Best burritos in the world if you ask me. So I was thrilled that they were opening a new location in Marina. If you love the burritos from el Charrito on east market st in Salinas, then skip going to the new el Charrito in marina. The tortillas are different, they're thicker, the pico de gallo is not spicy, the tomatoes are too big, they don't have the pollo guisado burrito. The beans are whole and not refried.
