I was looking for a good place for a Mexican breakfast. El Castillo fit the bill. Just a few minute walk from Riverwalk. Casual restaurant with good service. I heard I'm supposed to try puffy tacos while in San Antonio, so that's what I ordered. One chicken and one beef. Much preferred the beef. It was delicious served with refried beans and rice; loved the beans. Served with two sauces on the side. Lots of food. Also served nachos and salsa at the start, the chips were thick and crispy. Salsa a bit spicy. I got a fresh squeezed lemonade and water, both in huge cups. Reasonably priced. I recommend it!

This place is a gem. Great food here, and you can't go wrong - enchiladas verdes, fideo loco, and their house salsas are all great. Daily lunch specials, too - Friday is fideo loco and it's easily the best version of that I've ever had. Servers are super nice and attentive. If I'm in town for a week I hit this spot for lunch at least twice!

The best part of working downtown again, is finding El Castillo restaurant and being able to enjoy True Authentic Mexican food... Great Service, Great Food and a Great Staff. I work with older American's and their food prices makes it affordable for them on a tight budget to also enjoy eating out. thank you to the Castillo family for all the years of service. Paty G -

Decent food, watch out for pricing! Came in for $7.99 lunch special walked away paying over $12 including $1.50 tip. They charged our table of 5 extra gratuity even though they told me it applies to tables OVER 5 guests. Who charges tax on 'gratuity' and fees also?

Delicious breakfast tacos with a smile. Short walk from our river walk hotel Contessa. I've walked here 3 years in a row, so far.

I uploaded the pictures of these restaurant last year but somehow didn't write a review. Wow …read more. So where do I begin. I still remember how tasteful everything was. It was probably our most favorite place that we ate while in San Antonio. The ambiance was great, beautifully decorated restaurant with great service. The cocktails were delicious so we had a few. The food was flavorful and unique. We had a wonderful dinner with my family at Carriqui.

Y'know it's impossible to find street parking especially on the weekends normally. I had made reservations to meet some friends here for brunch/lunch 1145 am on a Sunday. This place is bigger than it looks! There's seating at the main building, plus a huge outdoor patio seating area, and an entire other building beautifully decorated. The hostess was welcoming and friendly and our server was excellent. We were seated in the other building near the windows. The menu wasn't huge, but just right with a few lunch and brunch items. After debating for a while of what to order, I decided on the Texas Gulf Shrimp plate. Agua Fresca of the day per our server was strawberry pineapple. Our server was able to water mine down slightly- since it was very sweet, but love knowing that it was freshly made. Complimentary chips and salsa always a plus, and we were able to order some spicy salsa to accompany at no charge. My shrimp plate was delicious! 2 skewers of nicely cooked and seasoned shrimp atop salsa with perfectly cooked cilantro rice and a fresh leaf salad. A half slices avocado accompanied my plate. Oh how I love avocados. I thoroughly enjoyed my plate. The chicken al carbon was also a good choice - half a chicken that was juicy, not dry. The avocado toast was beautiful and the pecan salsa was quite interesting. The female performers during our brunch in the room, made it very hard for all of us to have conversations. The volume echoed loudly in the room, so it was very hard to speak and understand each other. Although a great idea, maybe outdoor patio area might be more suitable. Beautiful space, great service, good food.

Both my wife and I ordered breakfast plates--hers was the chorizo and egg and mine, huevos rancheros. The restaurant was empty besides one diner sitting outside with her dog and one family inside which should have been a red flag to stay away. My chorizo and potatoes were cold and my beans were not hot either. This was not like it had cooled down--cold. The ranchero sauce looked bad and all of the food on my plate had no flavor, no seasoning, literally no effort whatsoever. I had a bug crawl across my hand while we were there as well. She had the issue with her plate, food was not even warm. The tortillas were hot and tasted good so that was how I warmed up my food. Our waiter also decided that he would cross the street to go speak to a woman at the little outdoor patio restaurant across the street on the corner. Not kidding, he was there for at least five or ten minutes just talking to her. I have always wanted to try Tito's and wanted something new to us but I guarantee there is no way we will ever go back. We left hungry, disappointed and embarrassed by what we just went through.
