Came in for lunch, service was good but there was a big chunk of an eggshell in my chile relleno. I won't be back.

We love the spinach enchiladas! The ingredients are fresh and yummy. The service is always friendly, efficient and hospitable. Our server, Angel, (who we always are lucky enough to get) is always happy to see us and knows our order! The margaritas are really great, too. Made from scratch, I believe. This was our first visit here and possible or last. We moved to the Maple Valley area about a year ago and have been working or way through the restaurants in the area. This place is average at best. Staff was very nice, place was very clean. Food was so so, not bad just not good. I judge a Mexican joint by it's carny asada and theirs is not so good. Maybe we will go back for a second chance. Ordered dinner in the bar- bad mistake. The waitress/bartender had to work a room full of people BY HERSELF. We ordered a dinner that was much more than $50 dollars, but our food was COLD and DRY. After we asked for a 2nd tiny bowl of salsa and the poor waitress was obviously unable to keep up with the entire bar full of people, I asked to speak with the manager. He was not there and I was told I could speak to his son... WORTHLESS. I was told the manager would come see us before we left...HE DID NOT. Owner/manager.. not everyone in the bar was buying 2 dollar tacos and half price drinks! The waitress/bartender could make so much more money somewhere else and I told her that. People of Maple Valley, don't waste your time at this place, we only went because of the decent reviews but they are obviously fake. read more

Worst burrito/"Mexican" food I've ever had! I ordered the burrito Verde (chili Verde burrito), and it the pork was completely dry and flavorless. It's like they never heard of Mexican food before, because it tasted like the pork was stewed in plain old water, instead of a tomatillo sauce, and I think they used pork loin instead of pork shoulder (pork butt, a stew meat), which is why it was so dry, and also a huge no no. The beans tasted like they were straight from a can and not homemade, the rice was okay. The staff was not friendly and seemed like they were rushing us, even though there was only 3-4 tables occupied. There was one lady that was nice though. I'm here in Maple Valley visiting family, so idk if this was a 1 time bad meal/service, or if they're always this terrible. But here's to hoping Maple Valley gets some great Mexican food 1 day. Excellent service. Waitstaff was very attentive. They actually offer shredded beef in their chimichanga which is a plus! The only suggestion is to amp up the flavor of their meat. Restaurant was clean and not to loud. Definitely going back. read more

El Cap is the best Mexican restaurant in Maple Valley! The staff is so friendly. My family comes here fairly often and the waiters greet us by name. On top of the awesome service, the food is amazing. I've tried many things on the menu and everything has been good. I was at El Caporal with my family for dinner tonight, and the experience was a reminder about why I have such a soft spot for this place. The restaurant and bar were crowded with people gathering to watch Thursday night football. There was a large party in the main dining area celebrating a birthday. Despite the big crowd and large party, the food came out timely and all done right, and the service was very kind and attentive. I decided to try the carne asada burrito tonight. The steak inside was excellent, very tender but with a good char. The many other ingredients were equally good and the burrito comes smothered with big "schmears" of good guacamole and sour cream. The burrito is huge, I hit the wall about 2/3 of the way through. Delicious and a very good value. El Caporal remains the best Mexican restaurant in MV. Don't miss the happy hour half-priced appetizers (and the happy hour resumes at 8 pm) as well as their "Taco Tuesdays." read more

Unfortunately, we had a confused waiter who both forgot us and mixed up our dinner order. Angel stepped in to rectify the situation....unfortunately, a bad experience for friends from out of town. I've been going here since I was a kid, family funtions, and easy dinner out. A couple months ago they served my son raw hamburger in his enchilada and didn't even apologize for possibly giving him food poisoning or take his meal off since after a couple bites he realized it and grossed out. So tonight we tried it again and they seated us next to a large party. After quite some time the manager came over and said that the waiter was busy, what do we want. We placed our order, from there we where ignored, she slammed our plates down on the table. I had put an empty salsa dish out to be refilled and a young helper came over asked if she could get us anything, didn't wait for an answer or take the empty dish By this time I'm just irritated. The manager came over and said anything else and I said salsa and water. She spilled water all over the table and didn't apologize or say I will be right back to clean that up. Then she flicked a hand written Bill in my face said computers down ok. By this time I just wanted to leave. $35 for a completely rushed unfriendly and horrible customer service. To think I'm a retail food manager with over 50 employees who serve food to over 10000 people per day, work long hours and sit 2 hrs in traffic to go to a local restaurant and relax and have a good meal. Hmmmm guess not... I can spend my $ else where.... read more

I was an out of town visitor from Calfornia visiting friends. This place was an afterthought after the restaurant in downtown Seattle no longer was an option. Our host with the most had just moved to Seattle a few months ago, and El Caporal is already one of their favs. I LOVED IT! I ordered the Carnitas burrito (super large), it was right on the money. My frend who usually eats a little and as full, almost finished her whole plate. Fresh chips and zesty salsa. Service was friendly. Worth another visit on my next trip! read more

We were there last week. I ordered a taco salad that was served on a plate. Lots of lettuce small amount of meat. I didn't find it as good as the traditional taco salad. My husband as for hot sauce and finally had to go up front to remind them. He found our waiter chatting with several employees. As we left we learned the restaurant had changed hands. Giving one star because I have to in order to post this. ---If you are allergic to any type of shellfish, do not go here. They will treat you as if you are imagining things. Clearly they don't know their shellfish. I specifically asked them not to put a food item in my meal, asked again if it was omitted before I left the restaurant and the lady said yes. I got home and there it was. I called and got a bs response as if she didn't believe me. Took it back and asked for my money back. Thanks for immediately giving me my money back without making that part of this experience complicated as well. No apology just more of we didn't put that mollusk in there, but somehow she was expecting me to want to come back. I got frustrated and I left. Customer service clearly is not their forte. I experience a very violent reaction to this particular shellfish. I seriously did not want to experience that tonight because it is bad. I WILL NOT BE GOING BACK and that's too bad because I always try to support local businesses, but I will no longer be patronizing this place. read more
