Chips and salsa
Aubrey L.

Best Mexican in Stow, Ohio! El Camp is always on my list of places to eat when visiting my family over the holidays. The complimentary chips and salsa are delicious as well as the queso dip. I typically order chicken fajitas, cheese quesadillas or chicken enchiladas. I have been coming to El Camp since I was a kid. The servers are very nice and the food comes out quickly.

"El Camps," as it's called by my cousin, is my cousin's favorite. It's where we eat together. I've been to this location multiple times and have done a tour de France of the menu items. Writing a review it challenging because this place doesn't stand out from your average mexican place. It's all good food and quality service. I will have to say that they serve a shredded chicken soup that is a must!! I've posted a pic. I'll keep coming back to eat here with my cousin and will definitely get the shredded chicken soup again.

Tacos Mexicanos - chicken, carnitas & chorizo
Holly L.

When I need a chorizo fix this is where I come! Friendly staff and lots of seating choices make them a good choice if you have a large group or a party of 2. Beans are tasty and sour cream is plentiful which is good as it will cost you rather more than is normal. Service is fast if a bit erratic but nothing worth mentioning.

Seafood Quesadilla Meal

We went to El Campesino for Cinco de Mayo with our teenage/college children - party of seven. We knew there would be a wait, but wasn't ready to wait over an hour since we were told 40-45 minutes. After being seated, we were promptly brought warm nachos and salsa, but never got the bowl of non-spicy/mild salsa that was requested. I also ordered a side of guacamole, which was nice and creamy but a little spicy for me. At one point, the empty table next to ours was moved to expand another table somewhere in the restaurant to accommodate a larger group. This uncovered a real mess on the carpeting where the table was - within a few feet of my seat. I pointed this out to 3 separate people, including the manager, a busperson and our waiter, hoping someone would sweep it up. The mess remained for the duration of the meal. This was a real turn-off for me. When the food was first served, only 4 people in our group received their meals. One of them ordered fajitas and his meal was brought without the wraps until it was brought to the attention of the waiter. The other 3 meals and the wraps were brought out at least 5 minutes later. I had the Seafood Quesadilla's which were on the "Specials Menu." They were very good and the price was right, at $8.95. They were served with shredded Romaine lettuce, sliced tomato and sour cream. Everything was fresh and tasty. The rest of our party enjoyed their meals too: 2 had tacos salads - 1 was vegetarian, a huge burrito, salad with sliced steak and 2 fajita platters. Overall, I have to give the experience 3 stars because of the disgusting mess on the carpeting and nothing being done about it (especially after bringing it to their attention), the sloppy restroom conditions, long wait and the food not coming out together. If it weren't for one or two of those details, I could have easily given it 4 stars because of the tasty food and value. Our bill came to $99 plus tip for the seven of us.

We love this place - great food and very quick. They do need to work on customer service - waiters are VERY rude.

Food is mediocre and the margaritas are terrible. I'd suggest Salsita's if you're looking for a standard Mexican fix.

We discovered Amigos a couple years ago, when seating was very limited, but they recently expanded and the decor is more inviting and authentic. We've tried a lot of things on this menu and have never been disappointed. Our food has always been fresh and plentiful, served with a smile. Two things I can ecstatically recommend: their house guacamole and their margaritas. Their hearty and bold guacamole is made fresh to order right at your table and it's become our favorite guacamole. We love their mango margaritas. We have found chunks of mango in ours, and make certain to always get the rims coated with tajin because they use tamarind to get the spice to stick to the rim--so tasty! This is a really enjoyable restaurant we always look forward to visiting!

The chicken tacito appetizer was just okay, but they will make fresh made guac at your table while you watch. That quac was superb. We made it disappear quickly with nachos. Agavero is located in the large shopping plaza along Howe Avenue in a couple of store fronts. Inside is a medium sized restaurant decorated with orange walls and wood with larger paintings on the walls, the feeling is nicely Mexican without being hokey or over the top. The menu is extensive and prices are reasonable. I ordered the #4 lunch special, a Chile Relleno with rice and beans. Chips and salsa were quickly brought to the table; both were ok the chips were fresh and the salsa was thick and mild, I did add some hot sauce to spice it up. My lunch came out very quickly, the plate was pretty and the food was nicely fresh and hot. The Chile Relleno was interesting, with no batter and a very mild chili pepper. The Salsa Verde on top was bright and vibrant. The beans and salsa were both good with mild flavors and nice texture. Overall the food was good, although the flavors were a bit muted for my taste. Agavero is a nice place to grab some solid Mexican food, but I did find the food to be a bit tame. Prices are good and the service was great, but I am always looking for bright and exciting flavors.

The cocktails are creative, balanced, and reasonably priced -- I had the hibiscus mezcal margarita, which had an incredible depth of flavor. For my main, I ordered the Cena de Tacos, which comes with your choice of two out of five sides. I went with a creamy corn bowl and a side of Mexican rice -- both rich, flavorful, and comforting. My wife ordered the shrimp bowl with rice, which was just as delicious. What really stands out here is the authenticity -- every bite tastes like it was crafted with care and respect for traditional Mexican cooking. The interior is classy and modern, yet relaxed enough to feel comfortable. I also love the thoughtful touch of their craft beers being named after social justice initiatives. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. Despite the restaurant being nearly full -- she was quick to serve. If you're looking for genuine Mexican flavors served in an elegant but welcoming setting, Battleground is a must-visit.

But alas, I don't think we will return to The Battleground. The service was awkward. The hosts and our waiter were, for a lack of better words, socially awkward young men dressed like they just left school and may have tossed their backpacks behind the hostess stand. It was a weird contrast for the slightly upscale prices and interior they present. The waiter seemed nervous, which, in itself isn't a bad thing, but they awkwardly lingered when it wasn't necessary and was hard to get their attention when we needed our check and to pay the bill. The food and drinks were a mixed review. The Battleground margaritas were delicious. The chips and salsa were not great, we mostly got a basket of tortilla shards. My partner got three tacos--carne azada, al pastor, and fish. His big takeaway was, "they're not very hot (temperature) and they're kind of bland." Similarly, we got the margs "spicy," but my Texas palate said, "this is spicy?" It had a tajin rim, from what I can figure. ...Maybe we're not the normal Ohioan clientele. A bright note, the refried black beans and esquites were awesome and the esquites big enough to share. I ordered the Pescado Veracruz, the plating and sides were good but the mahi mahi was chewy and only slightly above room temperature. Like I said earlier, maybe I did myself a disservice by hoping to find my new favorite Mexican restaurant... but, I just don't see us going back for great margaritas and sides.

In my most recent adventure, I visited Taqueria La Loma in Akron and very much enjoyed my meal. After ordering from the counter, I sat down and was quickly given some fresh chips and salsa to snack on. Although these were delicious, I probably should have passed on this because what I ordered was much more that I could eat alone. I was impressed by the flavor and value of the Mixed (shrimp and octopus) Ceviche, and would absolutely suggest it to anyone. I'd never had octopus ceviche before, and was concerned about chewiness, but was pleasantly surprised at how tender it was. I assume the shrimp ceviche is similarly good. I also ordered 3 birria tacos. I found there was maybe slightly too much cheese in the taco, but the tasty consomé dip was impressive. To wash it all down, I had one of the best horchata drinks I've ever had in my life. It was sooo good and a must-have. The staff was attentive and helpful, and the food came out quickly. The restaurant was basic, but clean, and looks like the kind of authentic place you'd want to go for a casual but tasty Mexican food meal. I will be recommending this place to my co-workers in the Akron office, and will go back again next time I'm in town.
