    Complimentary chips and salsa
    Michelle B.

St. John's is a small town, so there are limited dining options here. But if you're passing through town or visiting, let me catch you up: This is one of the two best places to eat in town! Tried the stuffed jalepenos and onion rings for appetizers. Both are good, deep fried, and hit the spot if this is what you're into. I suspect that the stuffed jalepenos are probably pre-packaged and aren't made in house. However, they didn't claim to be, and were actually delicious. Good complimentary chips and salsa. Tried out the cheese enchiladas (which come with beans, rice, and sopapilla) and they were quite tasty. On this dish, the red sauce was the go-to choice and it did not disappoint. But let me tell you about the most amazing thing I've eaten in awhile: the chicken stuffed sopapilla with green chile sauce. I cannot tell you how amazing this dish was to me. It hit me right in my "I need good Mexican food" stomach and I was in a food coma for hours to come. Delicious shredded chicken, beans, cheese, oh so good! Their green sauce has a bit of a kick (nothing too powerful) and was yum, yum, yum. Good service. Nice people. One of the two places that I absolutely love when I travel to St. John's. Trust me, you won't be disappointed by El Camino.

Azteca: Where My Stomach Says 'Me Gusta!'…read more We've been to El Azteca a handful of times now, and it's truly one of our go-to spots for Mexican food. We usually stop by after church, and it never disappoints. Our latest orders were the Carne Asada and the Texano Fajitas--both so flavorful, and the servings are just right. We have to ask to-go boxes after. The ambience is really nice--clean, cozy, and I've always loved their booth seating. The staff is always welcoming and friendly the moment we walk in. And yes, they serve freshly cooked chips right away (always a plus for me!) along with their perfect salsa. My husband and I both love Horchata, and we never skip ordering each of us a big glass of that creamy cinnamon goodness. We've also tried their Camarones a la Crema--shrimp sautéed with mushrooms in a creamy sour cream sauce. Rich, comforting, and perfect with the rice and refried beans on the side. Their fajitas for two with steak come out sizzling, exactly how fajitas should. The flavor is on point, and honestly, it could feed more than just two people. The chorizo and eggs always hit the spot, and the enchilada suiza with egg and green sauce is another favorite. It is simple, comforting, and solid every time. Always a great experience here, and we'll definitely keep coming back.

Wife ordered the fish tacos combo, I had to try the 3 item . Fish tacos not impressive. To me, fish did not taste in its prime. Supposed to be mahi mahi, a bit tough & chewy. On the other hand, we both liked the beans & rice. My tamale was mediocre but the chile relleno was excellent! Gave the beef flauta to my wife to sub for the fish tacos. Overall, filling, satisfying meal in a nice place with nice staff. Prices are the usual, kinda high! The option is eating at home, and we're on VACATION!

It comes with bacon-wrapped shrimp (my absolute favorite), quesadillas, flautas, and taquitos, plus it's garnished with cucumber, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream, and sliced avocado. Paired with their salsa, it's seriously amazing. I also ordered a three-item combo plate and wow -- the chimichangas were so good. I went with ground beef and shredded beef with green sauce, and added an enchilada with red sauce. Everything was super flavorful and tasted fresh. We also got the queso, which I highly recommend. I love dipping my chips into both the queso and the salsa -- so yummy. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either. They finish meals with watermelon shots, which are the best. I've heard there are like seven different liquors in that shot, and it's definitely memorable. I come here every time I'm in town, and it never lets me down. Great food, great flavors, and always a solid experience. Highly recommend!

The place was dead which was a bit concerning in a Friday night. I would have left 5 stars but this is why I didn't. Our waitress came very quickly to take our food order and we needed more time, we waited and looked around and waited and waited. My husband had a couple of questions but she never came and I guarantee she wouldn't have, had our bus boy not had the answers for us resulting in him getting her. The food came, and as soon as you see the pics you will see it was perfect. Our waitress never came again to check on us the entire meal and we waited quite awhile before she did come and asked if I wanted a box. I said yes and the check. (Who knows how long that would have taken had I not asked then). As we were up front waiting to pay, we see her on her phone. No wonder she didn't have time to do her job. Unfortunately no name tag but we did leave a poor tip and wrote on the ticket why.

She repeatedly had to go to the back to ask basic questions, and each time she left, she would get sidetracked helping other tables and take a very long time to return. That made the whole ordering process feel drawn out and frustrating. We were told that the green corn tamale, which is apparently usually meat-free, was made with pork lard. She mentioned it was in the green chili, though it sounded like she may have meant the masa itself was made with lard. Either way, it was disappointing and made the menu feel even more limited. What really stood out in a negative way was being told, "Usually when I have vegetarian customers, they just eat a salad." That did not make us feel welcomed at all. It made us feel like an inconvenience instead of paying customers trying to find something suitable to eat. We ended up sharing a quesadilla with a side of whole beans, and my wife ordered the veggie fajitas, which I had not even noticed on the menu since I only saw protein-based fajita options listed. The food was okay, but only because sautéed vegetables are hard to mess up, and that is essentially what my wife received. Overall, it was not a great experience. Going out to eat should not leave you feeling like a burden to the wait staff. I have worked in customer service for over 30 years, and making guests feel welcome is not that difficult. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here.
