The food was delish fresh, seasoned & cooked to perfection. Authentic Pina Colada made with all fresh ingredients. The shrimp service plate was a small & the juice was so good we ate it with chips. Chicken tacos was delicious. This is true Authentic Mexican food that the locals eat at. They have an outside covered patio area. Street parking is available. The prices are very reasonable. Friendly & courteous staff. Definitely recommended and will return the next time I visit PDC. 5
In Tulum with the fam and was hankering for some seafood. This place highly recommended by a local gentleman. The restaurant is bright and clean and we were seated quickly as there were not many patrons There was no air conditioning but we were seated by some great fans that cooled us down but blew every napkin around. We had then noticed the cash only sign so my husband had to walk to the bank on the corner to obtain some cash while we waited. They placed chips and bean dip on the table which was great. The beans were flavorful. We ordered a big platter that came with lobster, crab, octopus salad, shrimp, fried fish fillet, fried snapper, calamari, and rice and beans. The presentation was very nice but besides that, it fell short in a big way. Everything was very overcooked and rubbery and it all came out lukewarm. Had they paid closer attention to cooking time and served it right when it was done, I am sure it would have been better. My son got steak tacos and he said they were nothing to rave about either. My daughter ordered nachos with no meat but you had to still pay for the meat so we got it in on the side. Our server was attentive and tried his best.
I have come to El Camello twice and it is a neighborhood staple. You get a huge plate of food for a decent price with chips and all the sides. I got the octopus al diablo, the other flavors are also good, and this is a known local hangout. Great low key tulum town vibe and quick service.
The shrimp cocktail was terrible- I'm pretty sure they just boiled the shrimp and then added some sort of tomato juice mix- would definitely not recommend. It hardly had anything else and it was served in a talk glass, so it was very hard to mix. If you look closely, you can see that it wasn't even mixed together completely.The grilled shrimp was ok and so was the Paloma I ordered, nothing special.
I've been wanting to try this seafood place but never get to it when I'm visiting. Located on the main strip in La Veleta, this is a nice local vibe. I had the mixto ceviche (small) which was enough for 2-3 people as an appetizer. I had the grilled garlic fish for main dish. Everything was fresh and tasty. Service was good and quick. I recommend for a simple and inexpensive seafood meal in Tulum.
Now this is a spot all the locals frequent! We heard by word-of-mouth that this spot was truly authentic, and had some of the best, flavorful food in all of Tulum. We went to order a couple of drinks, but the main star of the show was that ceviche I ordered. They have different sizes and options for your ceviche; I chose the medium-sized fish because we had previously eaten out earlier in the night. I was blown away by the portion size and how tasty it was. The fish tasted fresh and not fishy if that makes sense. We had the leftovers wrapped up in a taco box, and the waiter was kind enough to include fresh chips for the journey home. The inside was decorated with a lot of murals and was a super cool look. There are tables both inside and outside. This place is cash only and almost all of the bus boys, waiters, and bartenders only speak Spanish, so be prepared. I already can't wait to go back maybe even tonight!
The portion sizes are insane here. They give you chips and salsa as part of your meal, so probably don't need another dish with chips (the nachos were good though). The garlic on the fish was too much. We were all burping all night. However, the food was delicious. The ceviche was the best in the area. A ton of locals and tourists alike. Cash only. ATM right next door, but always a line.
Food is fresh and delicious. Server was warm and friendly. It's a nice local spot with charm. I appreciated how they keep it about the food and service not like the tourist traps in the area with terrible food and service but it's okay because they have photo ops ::eye roll:: El Camello Jr was a breath of fresh air and one of the places that gave me hope that not all of Tulum has been ruined.
After watching numerous YouTube videos and going through Yelp - this place stood out!! I love trying locals favorite spots! My husband and I ordered the breaded shrimp tacos, this platter of seafood (tilapia, fish filet, lobster, crab, calmari, octopus, shrimp with rice and veggies) and a small ceviche. Even before the food came out they give you a plate piles high with tortilla chips and various salsas and a bowl of beans. Food was delicious and very flavorful! Would totally come back the next time in Tulum. Btw they accept cash only - and will convert USD & Euros for a small fee.
This was my favorite meal of my trip and I was in Mexico for 11 days. There were more locals than tourists in the restaurant which speaks to how good it is. We ordered a large ceviche platter, grilled seafood platter and drinks for the 4 of us and our bill was under $80 total. The same meal in the US would have been over $200. We honestly loved all of it and if it was closer to where we were staying then I would have gone back
If you're looking for the freshest ceviche in Tulum, this is the place to be! I have never had ceviche this good and the serving for a small order was good for 3-4 people. The price is very, very affordable as well. We also ordered fish and shrimp tacos which both were equally as good. The sauces on the table is a must with your tacos. Also have to mention how good their bean dip is which was complimentary when they serve you the tortilla chips. Service and ambiance is what you would expect from a local restaurant - warm and accommodating to your needs.
This place was located a half block away from my hotel during my recent Tulum trip. Anytime you walk by after 12pm the place has a line out the door and down the sidewalk. I decided I wold check it out on my 2nd day for lunch since the crowd wasn't so bad. Grabbed a seat at the front in the outside area and was welcomed with chips and very good salsa. I. had to stop or I was gonna be too full for my lunch entree. I wound up getting the mixed seafood ceviche which included lobster, shrimp and grilled octopus...very tasty! I killed the entire plate lol! Washed it down with a nice mai tai. This place is cash only so make sure you hitup the ATM before heading over. Servers are nice as well as the guys that appear to be the owner/mgr.

Great service....make sure you bring cash!!! We came to this restaurant on a recommendation and we were not disappointed! I had the grilled fish and my friends had the garlic shrimp. I originally wanted the whole fried fish but they were out (sad face). I decided to get the garlic fish it was decent but I should have ordered the garlic shrimp which were much better. Make sure you order the ceviche! It was delicious we got small and it was enough for 3 adults. read more

El Camello Jr. Has a great amount of outdoor seating. It's right on a strip with a lot of other great restaurants. The price point is amazing, the food was good I should of ordered the coconut shrimp my friend had since I'm on vacation and fish is fresh from the sea. I ordered the buttered shrimp is was good but had a bit too much seasoning on it other than that I can't complain, the portion size is smal so don't expect a feast but everything was prepared well. I ordered a Mai Tai it was tasty however I didn't detect much alcohol or any to be quite frank in the drink. They bring pico, chips, and smashes black beans to the table while you wait on food and they were delightful, we asked for me. It was a good quick choice. read more

Seafood restaurant known for their ceviche and fried whole fish. If dining was just about food, I'd probably give it four stars but service mustn't be overlooked. The restaurant was bustling, always a good sign for freshness. Grabbed a table and was served a bowl of tortilla chips, salsa and some picante sauces then forgotten about for a while. Later we were able to get a couple of pacificas. The waiter really wasn't really into us or anyone else. Ended up ordering the whole fried fish and my wife got a grilled filet. Both were served with steamed veggies, rice and refried black beans. All in all, great food but mediocre service. 2 beers and our food was about $35. Cheap and fresh. Would go back with no service expectations. read more

I had a lot of delicious food in Tulum, but I think El Camello goes down as the best meal of the whole trip. There's a reason why this place is packed every night with locals and visitors alike. Seriously, I was there at a quiet time of year where most restaurants were pretty empty, but this one was bustling at all times! Go for seafood. If the lobster is available, GET IT. It's crazy what a good value it is - two huge tails for about $20 USD if I remember correctly. There are several different prep options, but I highly recommend the chile sauce - it's super flavorful and not too spicy. The dish comes with rice, beans, and steamed veggies as well, and it's an incredible deal! I also had the shrimp in butter and it was also mighty tasty, but honestly the lobster overshadowed it all. A close contender was the fresh ceviche, which came out on a huge plate even though we ordered the smaller size. So much fresh fish, perfect veggies, and wonderful on the huge pile of chips they give you. You will not regret paying this place a visit. Just follow the crowds! read more

Went here for lunch and ordered the fish filet w/ garlic. It was very mushy although I've eaten it 5 times since I've been in Tulum and this is the first place that got it wrong. I'd suggest if you come here get the ceviche (literally the whole restaurant was eating it) and the mango margaritas (70 pesos). Margaritas were definitely bomb. read more

Excellent and well worth the 120 km drive from our hotel in Cancun. We followed Anthony Bordeaux to this place. Upon arriving, they serve warm tortilla chips, Refried black beans & Pico. Their guacamole was the best I've ever had and their Ceviche was to die for! We ordered this red snapper and ate it All (except the eyeball). There were 4 of us and we each ordered a couple things. We had to pull another table over to house all our food. We tried it all. We had several Sol beers and a coke and our bill was under $70 w tip. Down side: Some beggars come to your table (a deaf lady, a bongo and guitar player& a guy selling hammocks). No AC, we were roasting. Parkings a challenge. read more

Great spot for a casual lunch in the Tulum town center. I had a great margarita and mixed ceviche with shrimp and fish. The portion was generous, and the service was great. I also loved the chips and dip they give to every table. read more

This place is so delicious. If you are in town I recommend trying this place. First they start you with a bowl of chips - pico de gallo - habanero salsa- and delicious beans. We ordered the shrimp ceviche and octopus ceviche the small is enough for two people to split. Octopus was my favorite so tender and full of flavor. We also got the steak nachos- so good. Portions are huge so I recommend splitting everything. Definitely a great spot and always busy!! read more

Echoing other yelpers...stopped here for lunch after a morning spent in the beautiful Kalum lagoon (about 7 minutes away). We were famished, and I will say without qualification, that this place hit the spot! We had a small mixed dish of ceviche, an order of guacamole, and our party of two shared a plate of fried snapper. Our food very nearly covered the table. The ceviche was, in a word, glorious. The guacamole, delicious. The snapper had me greedily searching the bone for any last bits I overlooked- and I had long been stuffed to bursting by the time it was demolished. It was the reason I love to eat where locals eat. Great food, excellent prices. Some words to the wise...if you sit on the sidewalk, peddlers of all manner will approach you to buy their wares or donate to their causes (often mid-bite!). Also, while the restaurant accepts it, the exchange rate for usd is off- if you use pesos, you pay less! read more
Get away from the resorts, eat authentic! Fresh pico, fresh beans for chips (spicy for some), fresh chips, fresh Ceviche. Ceviche had too much lime for my liking, but my husband loved it. One son ordered a cheeseburger with fries, it came with all the fixings, including half a hot dog and a slice of ham. Yes, on his burger! It was actually quite tasty. My other son ordered nachos with only cheese. Not the canned cheese, I think our server thought we were crazy asking for cheese out of a can. He looked so confused. Thanks America. his nachos were layered with white shredded cheese bubbly and melted throughout. My husband had the lobster with garlic. This lobster was the best I've ever tasted, it was like steak. Crazy good. I ordered horchata because if it's on any menu, I HAVE to have it. Sweet creamy, cinnamon, perfectly mixed. Here's where it got really really interesting for me. I ordered the fried fish. The server asked me how big of a fish I wanted. "Uhm, medium size?" So, my fish comes out last. My entire family is done eating and my fish finally arrives. An entire red snapper, head tail still attached, guts removed. Honestly, right away, I thought "No effing way." But here's the thing, if you know me or read my reviews, I will try anything once. Anything. As I gazed into my dearly departed meals eyes I figured "Gotta try it." Hands down, fins up, best fried anything ever. Not breaded, just seasoned, scored and fried. I did have to have my husband flip it over so I could devour the other side. I just couldn't touch it with my hands and ignored his head. Crispy skin, moist white fish meat. Bottom line....best restaurant in Tulum. It's in town and a huge local favorite. read more

We went to have lunch here after Tulum, and the food was amazing. We ordered the jumbo mixed ceviche and fish tacos... I've never had such delicious ceviche before, I can eat a plateful and a half! I'd recommend anyone who is visiting to come here and eat like a local. read more

Great experience Had the whole fried fish. Fresh - just caught. The totopes (corn chips) and fresh pico de gallo are perfect. Great staff, family crowd. Good for big groups. We went with our infant. Hard to find decent Mexican food in Miami so this was a treat! Enjoyed everything with a cold beer. Don't miss out! Clean, delicious, and very affordable read more

My girlfriend and I ordered two (2) long island drinks to start off and they were on the stronger side so beware. We also ordered a small shrimp and octopus ceviche mix as a kind of appetizer and grilled shrimp and fried bass fish as entrees. Everything was absolutely delicious. A little on the expensive side especially for a restaurant of its caliber but it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. 10/10 would recommend. read more

This restaurant was my boyfriend and I favorite. The ambiance was really nice because a mexican band was playing. The food was delicious and fresh. My boyfriend really enjoy his fish and me i had coconut shrimp that was delicious. The place is really popular among tourist but also among local people. Like it wasn't enough, this restaurant is also the less expensive one we went. This is definitely a MUST if you go to Tulum. read more

Definitely where the locals eat. We wrote our name down upon arrival and waited for about 10 minutes for a table. Once seated, we were given a bean dip, chips, pico de gallo, and limes. Everything tasted fresh. We ordered lime margaritas, a small mixed ceviche (which is huge), coconut shrimp, and the plate of the day (un filete relleno con camarones/ fish filled with shrimp). Although busy, the restaurant runs quickly and efficiently. Our food was great! We did have to ask for the bill when we were finished, but that's par for the course in many Mexican establishments. It was a hot and busy day, so it was pretty muggy back inside where we were seated, but with a cold beverage and good food "vale la Pena." read more
