You don't go to El Burrito Loco for the ambiance. You go there for the food. This place is a hole-in-the-wall gem for foodies.
This little restaurant is nothing to look at, but don't be too snooty to try it out. It has friendly servers with limited English, Spanish TV playing in the corner, and authentic Mexican food at a great price. The cook and the owner are from the state of Michoacan, and they serve regional specialties from that part of Mexico. I think you can tell the quality of a Mexican food restaurant by the chips and salsa they serve, and El Burrito Loco doesn't disappoint. Servers will bring you complimentary chips that are still hot, a chunky fresh medium-spicy salsa, and a plate of beans warm refried beans sprinkled with queso fresco. Delicious!
I shared an order of "braceritos" with my dad. They weren't on the menu but were advertised instead on a hand-written poster. It's served crackling hot on a small charcoal brazier at your table. The dish consists of grilled shrimp, pork, beef, bacon (!) and onions with a grilled jalepeno on top and a side of chunky guacamole and a green chile salsa. It has reddish seasoning that reminded me of dry BBQ rub. You eat it fajita-style, on flour or corn tortillas. We avoided the jalepeno (hot!) and had leftovers, and I believe the dish could feed three. The bill was $17 for both of us (no drinks). Yum! read more
