Wii ok s this was really good. I didn't know what to order. My wife helped me since she knows Spanish. I wouldn't have ordered the creole sauce, but she did. And it was good. Probably the best I've had while traveling. As an outsider to the culture, I only know what my stomach tells me is good. And it says this is good. Great even. It's outside only. If I knew that I would have avoided the place. I like inside and the air conditioner. Beware of the mosquitos. There were a ton. We got there and there was a small line. By the time we got our food there were 10 plus people. What encouraged me upon arrival was the fact military members were eating there. I know they know where good food is. After doing a near by attraction, I yelped the nearest traditional restaurant and this came up. This restaurant is very welcoming with its authentic Puerto Rican decor, lots of pilones. These are the objects used to do the Mofongo. The minute you walk in the place, there's a recording voice alerting the staff that someone has come in. We were prompted to sit anywhere, and were given the menus right away. Prices range from $10-$25. I decided to inquire on a lunch deal, which I was told they had. It was Mofongo with fried pork and salad $7.99 or rice and beans with fried pork for same price. We also asked for water not in a bottle(free) The food arrived pretty quick, and nice temperature. The meat was so tasty. My BF ordered the Mofongo, which he said was full of garlic and delicious. We enjoyed the food, service and decor. I asked the lady that was serving us if she was doña Rosa, but she said no, she was the one cooking. Not bad for lunch. read more

This is the second time we have been in this restaurant. We went the first time in 2011 with all my family while we were in Arecibo visiting the Observatory and Arecibo's Lighthouse. We had great food and great service. We went the second time a few weeks ago while vacationing in PR. Once again, great food, great service. My boyfriend got the carne frita con mofongo, he said was amazing. The pork was well cooked, flavorful and not dry. Our tour guide from cueva la ventana recommended this place and I was hesitant to try it out since the reviews weren't very good. I guess you should always listen to the locals because the food was cheap and better than I thought it would be. It did take a while to get our food, but we were preoccupied with the TV, so it wasn't too bad. Believe it or not, we were a bit cold in there since we were wearing wet clothes. They have styrofoam plates and plastic utensils, which was odd since it's not a fast food place. The decor was very blah too, but I wasn't expecting much anyways. Each dish came with a side and they don't speak much English here, so be prepared to do a lot of pointing if you don't speak the language very well. First time coming to this place and I truly enjoyed it. The place seemed family owned and intimate. My dad is from Arecibo and I will be going back, on my next visit! The food was amazing. So flavorful and it really reminded me of something my grandmother would have cooked for me. I had the mofongo with fish. I had it "a la criolla". I'm not usually a huge fan of mofongo because of the texture. Luckily my Puerto Rican girlfriend was able to translate for me to tell them I like it softer, and they made it softer alright! I got it with the bistec. Wow! Super impressed. It was very flavorful and they made the texture just right. The steak was cooked well. Tostones were good as always. Service was extremely fast. I don't know why one of the reviewers below have 3 stars based on the fact that she was cold (in wet clothes) and because the silverware is plastic. Who cares? The place is not the best looking restaurant out there, but that doesnt impact the great quality of the food. In the past 4 years, maybe at least 3 times every year, I went to this place for a good reason - their mofongo! It is that good! Try the pollo or pulpo tri-mofongo. Awesome taste, great mix of vegetables, spices and overall right on spot! I read others complaining about the wait times, and I have to voice out my opinion about that. It is Puerto Rico people! We went on a Sunday evening. Waited 10 minutes to be seated. 10 minutes for our order to be taken. 20 minutes for our drinks, after asking again for them. Another 30 minutes for our food. By this point we were angry and famished. Too late to turn back now. Our waitresses reminded us sternly "everything is home made". Um, yea, thats a given. Finally the food arrives and I have to tell you it is freaking fabulous. There was not one dish that didn't taste incredible. Even the fried chicken, which most places would screw up, was perfection. We waited for an hour for food to come and waiters were exactly meeting our every need. It felt rushed yet no one had food served. It almost felt like they only had one cook for 20 people. This place gets a single star because the food was good. Not excellent mind you, just good. We went there after a long day of skydiving at the Puerto Rico Freefall Festival in February 2013. The place was bussy but not packed. I gave myself this long to write out the review to make sure that I didn't write this in a rage and to give the place a fair shake. They took some time to seat us, then they took 10 minutes to get our drink orders, then they took 20 minutes to deliver two of the three drinks delivered. At this point in time we were ready to leave but didn't because we had heard that the mofongo there was excellent, so we decided to give the place a chance to show off with food. Wait another 45 minutes and the third drink shows up, add another 15 and the food shows up. The food was good, but it was by no means worth the wait. The mofongo was good (we ordered three different ones), the Arañitas were bland, the chicken broth was good, the frozen frappe fruit drink was okay, the chicken chicharones were good. I get that Puerto Rico is a tropical island and that a restaurant with an AC is a must but they keep the place like an icebox inside. There is a BBQ place just down the road were we ate the day before, just as good and we had our food 5 minutes after we walked into the place. Then one of us ordered coffee and desert just to see how long it would take to get something that simple to the table. After 20 minutes of waiting we decided that it would be the end of the night before they would get it to us so we got up, paid and left. Had the service been faster and friendlier I would give the place 3.5 stars. As it is I would love to award it 1/2 star but Yelp won't let us do that. Save yourself the time and find a better place, they are all around PR Road #2. read more

The service for this place was terrible! I got there with my fiancée and her parents and it took them 10 minutes to just give us the menu's. After they gave us the menus they didn't even give us time to look at it before asking us what we wanted. So when we placed our order it took them almost 2 hours just to bring us our food. We were ready to get up and just walk out but the ladies didn't want to be rude. Once we got our food we weren't impressed the mofongo was dry, the amarillos were over cooked and not sweet at all. One of the waitresses looked like she was being forced to work that night and the other said that the reason it took forever for our food to come was because we didn't call ahead of time to place our order, which was b.s cause a couple came in sat down with menus right away, placed there order and within 20 mins they were eating. The restaurant is not slow but it is not fast either, i guess it is puertorrican style. Mofongo is very good. Other reviewers have been to harsh. The restaurant has daily specials. The special on friday is 7.95 for a mofongo with chicken which is very good price compared to what you pay at the hotel. read more

Very disappointed at the two hour wait and poor service. When the food finally arrived, it was good but certainly not worth the two hour wait. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. There are plenty of other wonderful restaurants on the Island. Stay away from this one! read more
