Puerto Rico at its core! This is a super simple roadside stand serving ice cold Medalla, sangria, and various cocktails. While we were thirsty, we needed some grub after spending the morning at the beach. Heat lamps are my Christmas star...a beacon to tasty frituras, (fried snacks) I followed obediently.
Salvation! Medalla never tastes as good as it does when you're hot and thirsty. Fried meat pockets don't satisfy as much as when you're hungry. Best on the Island? Nay, sir. Best at the moment? A resounding ay! Homemade spicy vinegar compliments the flaky pastelillos and alcapurrias. Sorry I didn't snap a pic of the latter. We devoured the crab filled dumpling like it was going out of style. I think I can best explain an alcapurria is likening it to a moist plantain hush puppy. If you don't know how plantain tastes, it's like moist potato. If you don't know what potato tastes like...have you been living under a rock?
In any case, we were completely happy and satisfied. Be sure to bring your Spanish A game. Something tells me tourists don't stop by here too often. The fact I had to add it to Yelp is a dead giveaway. There is plenty pod parking in front and on the western side of the pave. read more
