Absolutely amazing place to have Tapa's. Service is spot on, even my Spanish was not the best they catered us and recommended their local dishes. Very clean restaurant including the restroom. Ambience is quiet inside, but can be loud on the terrace. If you're not a smoker sit inside the restaurant, smokers are popular here. Food was very delicious, iberico ham was cut to order. read more

The food isn't bad... but it is not great either. Pretty standard fare for what what you expect from a good tapas bar. But at double or triple the price of a more local eatery further inland, ouch! For example, I am used to getting plates of pulpo con patatas for about 6 euro. So at 16 euro?!! And the bowl of 7 prawns swimming in olive oil for almost 9 euro?!! The best deal in the house was the huge plate of boquerones frito for about 8 euro. Yes, the 2 servers stumble around like they are in a different dimension, but they get the job done eventually. Don't expect them to flirt with you. Awesome location at a junction of my favorite walking area. I guess I am buying the opportunity to sit where the action is at. read more

The food here was ok but like others have said, the service was not very good. They didn't even bring one of the dishes we ordered so we just left and went to eat somewhere else for the rest of our meal. read more

"Good collection of Spanish Favourites" Reviewed 29 April 2012 We visited this restaurant on our first night in Alicante. It has a good selection of Spanish favourites to choose from. We opted for the set 3 course menu. Our choice was a selection of tapas (ham & cheese, Calamari and Patatas Bravas), Paella, bread and butter pudding and 1/2 a litre of wine or sangria each - all for 18 euro's. Pretty good value, although you can eat cheaper in Alicante. We sat outside in an atmospheric cobbled alley, which was a great option in warm months and the service was extremely good. We had the menu for €18.80 which is good value. The tapas and the paella were tasty, but not spectacularly so. I can recommend this restaurant for its value for money; however, anybody looking for a fine dining experience, should go elsewhere. read more

If you visit Alicante you will find it is a foodie's paradise with some very fine restaurants, but alas not this particular one. The service, although efficient, was unfriendly. The staff all seemed to have had a charisma bypass. The food in general was not very good, my wife's meal was extremely bad the lamb chops were dry, fatty and tasteless and the aubergine was burnt. The only good thing on the plate was the fries. Not being fluent in Spanish it was difficult to complain. My starter was Gambon al ajillo which was rather on the small side compared to the same dish that I have had numerous times in other Spanish restaurants. My main, which was pork tenderloin, was okay but my aubergine although not burnt it was too greasy and not at all appetising. The best thing that came out of the evening was discovering the Alicante wine, Tarima Hill, which we found extremely good. We were not offered dessert or coffee when we had finished our main courses, had they done so we may have given two stars. My tip is give this place a miss and maybe try Restaurant Nou Manolin where we had a lovely dinner in great surroundings and it cost less. read more

We had eaten here 5 or 6 times and the food was OK but the service was very dry. Our friends hosted a wedding dinner here and the waiters were quite rude. It seemed obvious that they didn't want the "extra business" because it meant longer work hours maybe? I mean, the service was flat out rude - no excuse for it. We tried another Paella place, Quo Vadis (about 100 meters away) and the waiters there are much nicer and we found that the paella is better too. Quo is or regular paella restaurant now. read more

Pretty much everything along this restaurant-row in Alicante is a solid bet, but our first night was here at El Buen Comer and it really set us up for a great holiday. The service was just lovely, something that continued in every stop in this area. Two of us shared the set menu and the value was just incredible, we were stuffed to the gills! Also on the table was the assortment of Tapas which my friend enjoyed, a portion of calamari which was HUGE and spaghetti bolognese, which was perfectly lovely. We also got sangria and while it wasn't our favourite batch from the few days, it was very tasty. read more

I've always had faith in old-fashioned looking places - they serve the most honest food. I'm not saying modrn, hipstery restaurants are always bad, but if there's one thing I can't stomach, it's pretentious kitchen. Nothing like that here. El Buen Comer is exactly that: good food. First comes a modest looking, grilled bread with aioli that's divine. It's easy to spoil a garlic sauce: add one hint of garlic too much, and it becomes a burning nightmare. Here, aioli is perfect; just slightly garlic-y and buttery; we're almost full before the starters arrive. Crocquetas, any Spaniard's fave, are great - not greasy at all. Order a paella alicantina, which is made with chickpeas and rabbit, in addition to your usual seafood. here's a surprize: paella is not salty, which it tends too be so often. Grilled fish are amazing, rice is moist and sauvory. A bottle of crisp local house wine (with a D.O. status, mind you) is less than 9€. It's a highly recommended little eatery - brilliant in its modesty. I'll be back. read more
