We ordered combos, and noticed one of the options for sauce was cheese. We're from southern CA where great Mexican food is on every corner. The worst Mexican food I have ever been served. Red sauce was just tomato sauce. Their idea of a burrito was plain ground meet in a corn tortilla covered in tomato sauce. Just awful. No spices used in any of the food. What a shame. read more

On the poor side of average Mexican food. This Mexican food is the no spice and no heat kind. The salsa is very mild; it's not much more than tomato sauce. The hot salsa has some heat to it, but very little spice. It was a little sour for my liking either from too much lime juice or tomatillo. We tried the Aztecas Burrito and the Tacos de Carne Asada. Two things really made these meals disappointing. One, the food did not seem to be fresh and two; it was only barely warm when served. When I opened the foil on the Tacos de Carne Asada, the beef did not smell freshly cooked. It had a hint being reheated or the smell of old grease from a flat top grill. The only seasoning in the beef was from the onions and a little cilantro that was cooked with it. The pico de gallo looked like it had been made several days ago. It was not fresh at all. The beef in the Aztecas Burrito had even less flavor. And both plates of food were only warm. On the positive side both the burrito and the tacos were packed with beef. They were not at all stingy with the meat. We had a great server and the food came out with in a few minutes after we ordered it. It was Sunday at noon and obviously from the packed parking lot, folks must really like this place. For me, I have found much better Mexican food in Clarmore. read more

I have remembered some pretty decent meals here. Today's lunch was just so-so. I was afraid salsa was going to get slopped on us as it was poured out of beer pitcher. Our server seemed super rough and was borderline gruff. I ordered the #1 lunch special, a chile relleno with a taco and guac. Guac was good (better than average). Relleno was just average. Beans were just OK. Taco was just a taco. The good thing is it's fast and we were able to sit at one table (six of us). I think I like El Banquette better. read more

The Hispanic lady that took my to go order was very rude and did not follow instructions about my order(s). She screamed "BYE" throwing her hand up and strutted away with attitude and start singing loudly in spanish after she roughly removed items from the bag. I feel she was being rude in her own language so that I could not understand. El Azteca has been in my crosshairs for some time, but it never seemed to percolate to the top of the list when we headed out to dine. Today, we were all home at lunchtime, and we opted to make the short hop to Claremore and give the place a shot. I'd heard good things about El Azteca from various friends and family, so I was fairly comfortable in recommending we try it out. Parking lot was pretty full at 12:30, so that reinforced my decision somewhat. We were seated immediately, and the price is surprisingly big. Much bigger than it appears from the outside. Nicely lit, plenty of bright colors and enough room so you feel you're not shoved into a tight space. The menu is a little different than your normal tex-mex fare, with only a few variations of enchiladas and burritos. The bulk of the menu us broken up into general sections: Fajitas, Seafood, Chicken, Steak and Pork. There's a page of lunch specials as well that are pretty routine, albeit with a couple of unique looking choices. We started with a bowl of queso for myself, The Wife and The Kid. The Wife had lunch beef fajitas, The Kid had the lunch beef taco salad, and I, of course, opted for...... wait for it...... pork chile verde. Because I *am* a foregone conclusion, sometimes. The queso was very good. Perfect consistency, with a nice subtly spicy undertone. In short, it was awesome. The Wife's fajitas were good, but they were of the 'all on one plate, not sizzling on a cast iron pan' variety. The flavor was all there, though, and the few bites I had were quite good. The Kid's taco salad was a well done take on a basic favorite. Not a lot of complexity to the dish at all, but for a lunchtime taco salad, it filled the bill nicely. My chile verde was exceptional. If you've read my reviews on tex-mex joints, you know I loves me some pork chile verde. This was some of the best. The pork was tender as mama's love, juicy and well seasoned. The sauce had the proper proportions of tomatillos, chilis and acid. By itself it would have made a great salsa. My only comment on the pork, and it's *just* a comment, not at all a criticism... is that I would have liked to see the pork with a little sear on it. Pretty sure the cook just plopped it in the pan and braised it until it fell apart... and there's not one thing wrong with that. It's just been my experience that a little pre-braise sear adds that extra depth of flavor to the dish. Again.... I'm not complaining at ALL. I cleaned my plate, and would have licked it clean had not decorum (and The Wife) got the better of me and stopped me. If I have any criticism to make, it's that the service seemed a bit off. It took quite a while to get drinks refilled, even in a nearly empty room (by this time, the lunch crowd was largely gone). That said, I've had far worse. This experience in no way will prevent me from returning again. For a short 10 minute drive from home, El Azteca is well worth it in my book. read more

I stopped in here for lunch today around 1PM. I was thinking I'd come in after the church crowd and well, I was wrong. Even though I too came in after church, I didn't really miss any of the lunch rush................... AT ALL! It's all good! I was in a party of 5 which included 2 children. We were seated quickly which was great but it kinda went down hill from there. Our server came by and got our drink order quickly and got those back to us. He was also super friendly and attentive. All good to this point. Our food took what felt like forever to come out. By my watch we waited 30 minutes for food. We didn't have an elaborate order by any means. Only 2 of us adults even had an entrée. It was really quite daunting. The tables around us also suffered from long waits. When our meals did come out however they were quite yummy. The carnitas I had were among the best I've been served in Oklahoma. That kept me from giving this a 2 star rating. Where I'd come back and try again because of the quality of the food when it did finally come out and the service, should I have a second bad experience, I wouldn't be back at all. If I could give 0 stars I would I got their chicken chimichanga and I bit into it and I almost broke a tooth it had three pretty large bones in it I was shocked and even more upset I was so mad and I wonder how they put bones in the chimichanga without noticing like it honestly amazes me how that big of a mistake wasn't caught 0/10 recommend unless you like eating bones read more

went to eat dinner last night. this is a place I eat at all the time. the food is good service is good. the way women are talked about by men who work there is enough to make a person sick. the owner/manager? I don't know his name was setting at the table next to my husband and myself with a who I think was another customer. the way women were being talked about was sick! every other word was fuck! they talked about how women are worthless and only good for ONE thing if it smells ok! I got up and left. told them that was wrong. now before you say i was overhearing it. this was all said in English in loud voices there was no way to not hear it! when we left the customer locked his lips with a hand motion. Four instead of five stars only because the ground beef could use a bit more seasoning and we found out after eating that my husband could have gotten dark meat chicken in his chimichanga instead of white. Called in an order, man hung up 3 X! Finally started placing order, he is rude and extremely short with me, i ask for guacamole, he saiys 'what??' I say it again, he hangs up! Call and ask why? He tells me cause he doesnt know what i want!? Finally done, he hangs up after yelling "20 minutes" I walk in, ask who took my order and the OWNER says 'probably me'... i ask why the hateful behavior and then he said , 'oh it must have been someone else'.. i personally love it here and i come very frequently, but i order the same thing every time and stick with what i know. the cheese enchiladas with rice and refried beans is my favorite. my boyfriend gets the chicken and rice and we both love it. that being said, the sauce is very mild and sometimes the chips are greasy. read more

I'm not quite sure how this place has such awesome reviews. Unfortunately, ours was not a great experience. We did not have any consistent waiter. Tried to get my boyfriend drunk by giving more beers then asked. One waiter came and brought one, then another. Then would play it off like they didn't know someone else brought the other beer and the response received was "head shrug, oops, then walk away." We let that one go cause my boyfriends a beer drinlet and would have ordered it anyways. Then in took 1 hour and 10 min just to get our food. The waiters pretended they didn't understand much English when I heard them speak perfect English to the manager. Now to the best part! I only had 2 dollars cash and my boyfriend had a 20. Even with our bad experience we were gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and leave a 10.00 tip. I mean, they were busy that day and I understand not everything goes as planned. So he gets to the counter to try and break the 20. The guy opens the drawer and tons of 5s, 10s and 20s. Tells my boyfriend they do not have any 10s to break the 20. Obviously he was wanting us to leave tip on card. My boyfriend was flabbergasted and just walked out. They did get a measly 2.00 tip off a 61.00 tab. Needless to say. Will NEVER go here again! Wow - if you ever go to El Azteca in Claremore on a Tuesday night for their so called "kids eat free" beware - they don't even tell you what you have to order to get the kids food free and then they charge you an arm and a leg for crappy food - (the only thing that was good was the queso) - plus the server was lame-o! Never explained the kids eat free requirements and acted like we were inconveniencing him by even being there! Then when we paid and I asked about the kids eating free - they point to a little sign that says what you have to order to get the kids food free - really do you have kids? Obviously not because when you do and you walk into a place with 2 kids hanging on you and 2 bags the last thing in the world you are going to do is look around for tiny little signs with a ton of technicalities before you order - how about this El Azteca - put it on your menu! Thats where I looked for rules and it wasn't there - plus your giant sign outside says kids eat free Tuesday night - how about on Tuesday nights you make sure your wait staff informs customers with kids what the deal is - I don't know call me crazy but that just sounds like minimal customer service in my opinion - but maybe I'm too city for this town! read more

This is my first time and last time coming here. The food is decent but the service is horrendous. We walk in and immediately there's confusion as to who is going to seat us. A female employee at the front asks a young man to seat us, grudgingly he obliges. He leads us to our table and THROWS the menus on the table before we can even sit down. The waiter comes and takes our drink order. Walks 5 feet, turns around, comes back to our table and asks, "what did you want to drink again?". We kindly repeat our drink order. He comes back a couple minutes later with the wrong drinks. Mind you, we are one of four couples in here, it's not busy at all. We weren't brought straws either, minor issue. The food came out quick which pleased me. The waiter put our food on the table and left my plate partially hanging off the table. The plate was hot (they put them in the oven) so when I pushed the plate towards the center, of course it burned my hand. My plate was so hot that I had to wait 5 minutes before I could even eat it. I appreciate hot food but that's ridiculous. We asked for our check and a to-go box which seemed to inconvenience the waiter. I will NEVER eat there again. read more
