The food here is always nice and fresh and it comes out of the kitchen FAST. The hostesses and servers are friendly and efficient. Our server tonight, Nora, did a great job. She gave great recommendations and was right on top of our needs. I always come here with my daughter whenever I bring her to college or pick her up, and it's one of our favorite treats. Other than Taco Bell on Route 60, this is the only other Mexican restaurant I know of in the Dunkirk-Fredonia area. Sure, you can get tacos from most of the pizza places in the area, but El Azteca has by far the most authentic offerings. I've never had a bad meal here. My husband and I dine here a few times a year when we visit family in the area and have always been pleased with the prompt, friendly service, charming dining room, comfortable seats and low prices. For years they lacked a liquor license but have been serving alcohol for well over a year at this point. I ordered a margarita once. It was from a machine and tasted like a booze slushie. They have daily drink specials. We've had just about everything on the menu but repeat orders have included Steak Monterey, nachos, vegetarian burritos, guacamole and chile rellenos. Once I had huevos rancheros there, but I don't think it is a regular offering. Their vegetarian offerings are varied and plentiful -- the spinach and mushroom quesadilla is savory and cheesy. I have a friend who regularly orders off the menu there and asks them to alter her bean burritos to such an extreme degree that there is almost no resemblance to the menu's description of bean burritos and they accommodate her special orders without blinking and accurately. read more

This is my favorite place to dine when my boyfriend and I go out to his cottage by the lake. We always have such friendly service and a delicious meal. We tend to come in late, like ten minutes before close this past visit, and they are always still extremely welcoming. I love how the place feels- its very authentic, clean, relaxing, and comfortable. The decor is pretty with intricate murals on the walls, and the lighting is dim. I really love the complimentary chips and salsa that are brought out immediately. The chicken quesadilla has amazing flavor- possibly the best one I've ever had. I also tried the fried ice cream the past visit. It was really good and was served in a little edible shell. If you are even out this way- stop in and try their food. They are located in the tops plaza, but don't let that discourage you! It really is a fantastic restaurant. read more

Food isn't good at all. My friend and I ordered like 6 things on the menu and everything was underseasoned and was only edible because of the salt and habanero sauce on the table. My experience was okay. My margarita was pretty weak (but it was on special). The portion sizes were good, but they were very cheap with the sour cream and the guacamole. The food was decent; rice was kind of dry. All in all, there is probably better Mexican in the near vicinity. read more

This is a nice restaurant. Service is great, easy to get a seat, plenty on the menu to choose from. I like the combo meals, usually rice, beans, chili rellano and a taco or burrito. They come to your table with warm chips and red salsa as an appetizer while waiting for your order. We've been there at least 10 times and was always pleased. read more

I love this restaurant! The food was amazing, with complimentary homemade salsa and chips. The service is always fast and the veggie fajitas I got were really flavorful. I ordered the carnitas burrito. The pork itself didn't have a huge amount of flavor, but there was spice from the Verde sauce on top. It was spicer than I like, so ordered the optional cheese sauce and extra sour cream to tone it down. Half way through, I found a piece of bone in my burrito. It was the size of the last joint of my pinky finger. I spit it in my napkin and informed the server I had found bone in my food. I didn't freak out, just wanted her to know. She asked if she could take my napkin to show the cooks. A few minutes later the manager came out. He says, "I understand you found bone. We try really hard to keep this from happening but it happens from time to time." I said I was fine, no harm.... didn't choke or break a tooth. After finding the bone, I chose not to finish the burrito. I ordered a margarita on the rocks which tasted watered down. I ordered the flan for dessert, it was meh. When I paid the bill, it was $40+. This is the closest you'll come to authentic Mexican in Chautauqua county. From the decor to the music to the food, it feels authentic. You're promptly seated and served fresh made chips and salsa. This restaurant has become our favorite go-to place. The authentic Mexican dishes are consistently delicous. The service is usually very fast, and always friendly. The prices are very reasonable. We've been there so often, despite a 20 minute drive to get there, that all the employees greet us as though we were family. The Mexican decor and cleanliness are great. My favorite dish is the mushroom quesadilla. I don't know how mushrooms can taste so much better here than anywhere else, but they do.The menu is quite extensive, so everyone can probably find something to suit their taste. read more

Nice little place just off I-90, convenient to several hotels. Their salsa is surprisingly flavorful and spicy, and was definitely one of the highlights of our visit. El Azteca has several vegetarian options, and my wife was very pleased with her chalupa - despite being loaded with beans, it was crunchy and fresh. My carnitas were pretty good, if not especially tender, nicely smoky and without the overwhelming lime flavor common at Mexican restaurants. Our dinners were both pretty cheap, coming in at under $10, and the food was served very quickly.
