This restaurant was a great surprise. We walked past it many times but didn't notice it for what it was. The service, food and ambiance were all top notch. They are located on the corner of Calle Maestraza and Calle Jose Maria Morelos. I was not sure about El Arte as we were sitting in the window as were three other tables as well as the whole restaurant is visible and there is a lot of foot traffic. But you don't even notice everyone walking by because of the great job they do keeping you distracted with light music and great food from the chips and salsa to your main course. We ordered the Pollo ala Parilla which was fantastic. We also had a Michilada that was the best. Dinner was so good we decided to try out breakfast today. It did NOT disappoint. The service both days was top notch as well. We had dinner last night and Wow! The place checked all boxes. read more

We were looking for a late evening snack yesterday. I'd been meaning to try El Arte, but a couple of things had me on the fence. First, the menu is HUGE: Pizzas, burgers, pastas, breakfasts, mexican dishes, sweets, salads, you-name-it. And, in my experience, restaurants that try to be everything to everyone end up letting almost everyone down. But El Arte isn't that. My wife had quesadillas that were terrific (no surprise in Guadalajara, I suppose) and the omelet I ordered was delicious and made in the French tradition. The couple next to use ordered the Rib Eye and it was highly rated by the diner, and their kid had a pizza that looked delicious: Thin crust, just the right amount of toppings. So of the four dishes I personally observed, all were better than expected. That's enough for me to throw the Five-Star flag. Second, there were some negative reviews of El Arte. I looked at them and -- frankly -- was surprised. It seemed like some of the comments didn't have much, if anything, to do with the quality of the food, the professionalism of the staff, or the cleanliness of the establishment. (They bring to mind those one-star Amazon reviews: "My package arrived a day late. I would give zero stars if I could!") We could not have been treated more professionally by the staff; their COVID procedures were comprehensive; our food was served exactly as ordered. Honestly, I could not find a single thing to quibble about, so I wonder about the motives of some of those one-star reviewers. All in all, we're adding this to our dining circuit in the GDL. read more

I came here for my morning coffee fix. I didn't eat anything because I read the reviews before ordering. Most of the English speaking reviews was average to poor versus the Spanish speaking reviews was raving 5 star reviews. This gave me the impression that this restaurant doesn't like foreigners here but I would say I was treated well. Maybe I'll come back and give it a try based on my experience. It was good. Cute small cafe place, right in back of the Basilica, yet food was not great at all. First time here as tourist, food served was not cooked well - salmon was bad and raw, and the mash potatoes were nasty! Service and waiters ignore you after your food is service, and seem like they are just having an awful day. Made a complain to the waiter of how the food was not well cooked, and they didn't do anything about it, disappointed in their reaction...hopefully I don't get food poisoning from eating here. My mom ordered a pizza which I wouldn't say it was a thin crust....and it pretty much tasted and looked like a large toasted and burned tortilla, with just a lot of cheese and pepperoni lol, nothing great about it. Food and service are just mediocre at this cafe, would not recommend this place. If you're looking for a good Mexican restaurant to eat I would suggest to check out "La Chata", only about 2 blocks down from this place. read more

Nice service. Clean eating area. Food could be a little hotter but flavor was delicious. Sauce on the chilaquiles was very tasty.

The place is a corner restaurant, kinda preppy feel to it but nice and great food. I had the club sandwich with fries and as you can tell I devoured the fries. They had the perfect amount of seasoning with a touch of lemon pepper ( don't knock till you try it. ) The sandwich was good, than again i didn't order anything fancy like the wife. She had the crepes and they were good. But it can do with out the stuck up hostess. She acted as if she was doing us a favor by sitting us down. I can understand that she might be having a bad day but do your job smile and sit us down with out the pole of her butt. That's why I'm giving this place 3 stars and not 4 read more

Great little coffee restaurant with a view of Plaza Liberacion in downtown Guadalajara. Great variety of international food plates at reasonable prices. This is a great spot to have breakfast or lunch if you are visit the museums and cathedral. You will not get authentic Mexican food here, but this is more of an American type menu with a Mexican twist. During my visit I had the veggie omelet with a green juice, and the kids had a hamburger and pizza. Food quality was adequate and the view of the plaza was great. I recommend this spot for a quick lunch during your downtown visit, and for people-watching while you are having a nice cup of joe. read more

Food is good service is awful!! Very autocratic. This place has been one of my favorites when visiting Guadalajara but lately I have had very unpleasant experiences. From waiters having bad hygiene smelling like BO to getting charged for more than we ordered. This place is very convenient and accessible from the main Cathedral in Guadalajara. The food is OK, nothing too extravagant, but me experience with the service was less than poor. My waiter never came back to ask if everything was OK, even when the place wasn't even 1/3 full. The WiFi is free, the location is great, but service is unacceptable. I found this place to be a bit over priced for what you get, food wise. The bills for breakfast were unnecessarily high, considering there was nothing noteworthy about the eats. Headed out looking for one restaurant (which we couldn't find) and found this quaint spot ( I LOVE an exposed brick wall and dark topped tables). The fajitas mixta (chicken, beef, shrimp)was savory, tender and juicy and came with frijoles (beans) and quacamole, but it was not too much food, I highly recommend it; and the pescado empanizado was light, fresh and tasty (not overly fishy tasting), we loved that one too. It came with rice and salad and was another light dish. Muy Rico! And lets not forget dessert: dark chocolate brownie and ice cream, with an espresso macchiato chaser! Lol I would have preferred a warm brownie, but let me tell you, once it got room temperature, O My! The espresso came with 2 tiny cookies that were delicious as well. We also got to sample a muffin made from plantanos (banana family); they are thinking of adding them to the menu and gave us a taste test. The muffin was fresh, aromatic, soft and not to sweet at all; the perfect addition to a cup of coffee or tea...I hope they add them to the menu! Great spot to hit up if you don't speak Spanish because they have an English menu and the waiter spoke perfect English. It's also particularly good if you want a lot of options or are vegetarian. The fish I got was a little plain, but that might just be because they are catering to an English speaking crowd that may dislike spices. read more
