Please inform your staff on what a food allergy is. The staff member was serving me cookies & I told them to please restart the order because one of the cookies had peanut butter in it & was touching all the other items. I essentially had to tell them myself to change the tissue paper being used to collect the new cookies for my order & to restart the order because they thought it was ok to just put the new order in the contaminated batch... On top of that, the cookies tasted stale. Not a good first impression. read more

I just was at Egypt star in Whitehall , which I. have been going there for years . walked in and the young woman behind the counter was talking to a woman who already was served and had her bag . she didn't acknowledge me and just kept talking , I waited patiently thinking they would stop and she would wait on me , but she just kept going on over 5 minUte's . then there was a phone call and another woman older answers the phone and is on it sbout 2 minutes looks at me hangs up and walks away . Stopped into Egypt Star after mass for a breakfast treat. This hidden jewel on Front Street deep in Allentown is a slice of history from days past. The baker warmly greeted us and proudly explained all Egypt Star has to offer. The staff patiently let us choose our treats...donuts and a pecan ring. The baked goods were fresh, and did not disappoint. It is obvious the baker uses high quality ingredients flavored with his love of his craft. This is where my family goes for bread when we want good neo-French bread like those we had in Vietnam. Made fresh everyday - reasonable prices - and it smells heavenly the minute you walk in the door! Wegman's might have good bread but Egypt Star is still my hands down favorite! Not sure what they're called in English but the French name for them is "flute" - looks like a big fat baguette :). The smell of this place always takes me back to Vietnam growing up smelling the fresh baked bread every morning, as well as takes me back to my 4am drunken walks home in Lyon where the bakers rise before the sun and the bread almost burn your fingers it's so fresh, hot from the oven. read more

I stop by today at the new Egypt Star bakery in Emmaus. The persons working at the bakery were very friendly and tried to be helpful. I ordered a selection of their fresh cookies and brought them home as well as a loaf of bread. Unfortunately, the fresh cookies were either week old or had been frozen. I am expecting fresh bakery baked items at the bakery. I could've gotten equal quality baked goods at Giant food market. I've nothing particularly negative to say about the new bakery, but I have nothing particularly astonishing to say about it either. read more

Had a horrible experience for our first professional cake order for our daughters 18th birthday. We have always loved Egypt Star Bakery for a quick drop by to satisfy our sweet tooth, so when we were looking for a place to make our daughter's 18th birthday cake we turned to them. I called them first, the location on MacArthur Road, to make sure they could do what we were looking for and get an approx. cost because we have never had a professional cake done before. I was given an approx. cost on the phone that seemed low but with how cheap their prices on in the store, it did not surprise me. My husband and I went into the MacArthur Road location the next day to order the cake. We ordered the cake that was to be a tier cake. 10" chocolate round on the bottom, 8" vanilla round on the bottom, buttercream icing with a lot of cascading, waterfall like flowers down the cake in bright bold rainbow colors. I showed a picture of an idea of the colors of flowers. I was told I was quoted way wrong for the cake but they would honor it. We asked if it could be ready by noon on Sunday and we were told it would be ready before that, that the store opened at 8am (I think they said 8am point was they said we could come hours early that day because it would be there and ready). My husband went to the same location to pick up the cake as instructed at 11:15am. The cake wasn't there. It was at their other location and he was told that he could either wait there until someone could bring it up there or drive down to other location to get. He had to go to get other items for our party that started in two hours, so he asked them to bring it to location it was to be at. The cake is nothing that it was to be. The cake looks like it was made for a grandmother. Not a lot of roses, more older looking flowers and he can only see it from the top because of the box. (keep that in mind). We have two hours we have no choice but to take it. I call the shop and speak to the owner after I hear about how the cake it not as it was to be and I was told that the location that took our order is not to take orders, all orders are to go through the managers with pictures and lots of descriptions, a cake like this doesn't walk out of her shop under $150, her decorator can do anything but wasn't given enough information, she didn't have the appropriate pans, if we brought the cake back she could fix the crack int the cake (I had no idea what she was talking about cause I did not see the cake yet) and if we gave her another chance in the future would assure us a perfect cake. When my husband came home with the cake the top tier of the cake shifted halfway off the bottom tier and the bottom tier was collapsing, the cascading, waterfall like flowers were more like all flowers on top tier coming down all sides evenly not many roses and more like grandma flowers. I was in horrified. This was for my 18 year old, not my parents. We had to shift the cake back with our hands and call our friends to try to fix the cake. When we cut into it we think we found the problems. There was a crack in the bottom layer of the cake near the very skinny dowels (one of which fell sideways in the bottom tier of the cake) the tiers were layered unevenly and tried to corrected with a huge amount of buttercream filling and we believe the cake was made that day and rushed because it was quoted at the low price. While I understand you get what you pay for, the lack of communication and poor business practice here is what got me. I would think that when the order got to right person, I would have received a call about a few different things. One being the price from the manager or owner saying they just can't do it. Two being the lack of description of what was desired on the cake instead of guessing. You can't say that your employees did not give you the right information and you are mad at them if my information is on the order sheet and you did not bother to call and get the information yourself. Three not one person called us to let us know that our cake would be in a different location than the one that we ordered it from. People plan and expect that when they order something from a professional that they are being told the truth about pricing and quality and are left very limited options when these things happen and when you call to complain and you hear, well if you give us another chance we will make it right and more excuses doesn't help. While we will still go there for our sweet tooth fix once in while, we will never order a cake there again all of our and family and friends saw what kind of product came from Egypt Star yesterday and was just upset as we were. read more
