The Meat Lovers Skillet
Steven J.

Eggville sounded appetizing online but the entire experience from start to finish sucked. The place has a very generic IHOP vibe, and the crowd is mostly seniors. It wasn't very crowded yet service was slow. Our server, Patricia, was extremely short with us, and had an attitude from the very start. The food was not much better. The coffee was watered down, they were out of almond milk, and their latte machine was broken. My Dad's scramble was dry as a bone, and my Tuna Melt was burnt to a crisp, with 2 slices of uncooked Kraft Cheese. Mine came with chicken noodle soup which was watery. My Dad's pancake was the only decent item. They finally took my sandwich off the bill, but that doesn't excuse the nasty food and even nastier service.

My breakfast was fine but wasn't anything special there really wasn't any flavor to my meat lovers skillet. The potatoes weren't tender kind of hard like they weren't done. My granddaughter's Mickey Mouse pancakes were made cute. Our waitress was fine but really didn't come back to see if we needed anything. The bacon was pretty well done!

I'll get right to the reason it's four not five stars. The first bacon was not only burnt it was totally crunchy and stupid over done. I thought I'd taste it and definitely inedible. Why any cook/chef would put this on a plate, I don't know....That said it was replaced upon request and obviously you can see from The pictures much more edible and all I had to say was, "i like my bacon slightly crispy, but not like this. " (i did not originally ask for it crispy either). So the reason for the 4 stars that would have been 5. Service was great. Seated promptly. Waitress was around when she need to be and replaced the bacon. Coffee was offered for refill every so often and i must have had 2 cups(which at 2.50 I'd expect.) I could have had more, just didn't want it. I got the "handable," Ciabatta roll w scrambled egg BaCON and cheese with hash browns. The roll was good but maybe coulda been toasted, the eggs and cheese fine, coulda been a tad warmer, and the hash browns were yummy, golden brown mostly. I have noticed all over that hash browns are usually cooked well in top but coulda been flipped to get that brown on both sides, but still.. ate them all, can't really complain, just being picky. Decor was clean and pleasant, kinda farmer elcectic. Overall I'd go back.. and recommend..and I love the giant chicken outside.lol

The food was cooked to order and did not take long. Food I got the onion smashed burger. I thought it was delicious with charred onions smashed into the burger and cheese. I did not use any ketchup for the burger because it was very well seasoned and juicy. Tater bombs These were a tarot tot on steroids. It came with what looked like a some sort of ketchup/mayo concoction. Basically a fried loaded potato is a shape of a big beefy tater tot. It had bits of bacon and cheese in it. It had a nice crunch and fluffiness to the inside. Though you get six of these tasty potatoes, there are substantially enough for a side (and to some a perfect snack). Overall Definitely visit smashd burger. It is a family and veteran owned burger place that serves great burgers and fun sides. I think I have to go back and try the bacon jam... But I was pleasantly surprised by the food too. I got the cheeseburger sliders which were really good. Moist, tasty, and the perfect size for a slider. I ordered fries on the side and wasn't expecting the portion size. They gave an entire basket of fries that easily could have fed the party of four adults I was there with. Crispy, flavorful, loved them. The cheese curds were also great, paired with a sauce recommended by the bartender. I wish I could remember what it was, definitely some type of sweet/salty almost teriyaki sauce. So, so good. I don't drink alcohol much so I can't comment on the drinks but everyone we were there with seemed to enjoy them. So much so, they ordered several. Great vibes here. They had the front window open for a beautiful sixty degree day. Music was on. Everyone there both staff and other customers were all really nice and we had a great time. Turns out our bartender was the owner of the bar and he was just fantastic. Attentive but not overly so. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a great place for a drink and a bite to eat.

I'll try to be short, but want to give a true account of the events. Yesterday I came from the city via Metra late afternoon with another friend to visit a dear friend that moved to Cary a few years ago. Cary is far & we rarely see one another. Needless to say, we were super excited to for this mini-reunion & for our friend to show us a slice of Cary. It was not the best planning being St Paddy's weekend but so be it. We specifically looked for a place we could easily talk & catch up. We started w/ one chocolate martini at Cucina Rustica and chatted OVER an HOUR. Little did we know, we should have stayed there. Next stop, Cary RACIST Ale House. The back area lounge was nearly empty & we were assured it was open (not booked for any events). The waitress, at the start aggressively asked a bunch of questions. I first thought her line of questioning was bizarre so I ignored her while trying to figure out what to order. She asked how we got there, who was driving & specifically said she didn't feel comfortable in serving me. WTF?!?!? My friend politely answered her questions and when she left, we all agreed the waitress's behavior was odd & laughed it off. We refused to have her ruin our evening. To our SHOCK the waitress would NOT serve me?! Only me! Was I disruptive? NO! Was I being violent or doing something illegal? NO! Did I come in stumbling? NO! Was I slumped over passed out? NO! This was crazy! Check your security cameras if you don't believe! Was this a bad twilight zone episode? Was someone going to tell us this was all a joke? I was speechless. We asked her why. She said it was a management decision. What?! Interesting since no one came to talk to us aside from her. We asked her to explain, to get some understanding. You will NOT believe what she said....she said it was my eyes. I looked at my two white friends & asked if something was wrong with my eyes? No, nothing is wrong. WOW, she basically said my Asian eyes were an issue. Falsely claiming I was drunk and couldn't be served because she didn't like Asian-looking eyes?!?! I was stone cold sober ***hole! We were all completely sober & flabbergasted! Completely disgusted, we left. I thought about brushing this aside but I wouldn't want anyone else to be treated that way. I will not allow them to humiliate me. This was supposed to be a happy occasion, and it was spoiled by a bigoted, small-minded person. I don't know how these people can live with themselves.

We visited on a Friday evening and were informed upon arrival (1.5+ hours before closing) that they were out of brisket, ribs, and chicken. This severely limited the menu choices, but we decided to give it a try anyway. The "coleslaw" had almost no flavor whatsoever - practically dry chopped cabbage. The baked beans were the best thing served; a little heat and good flavor. The pulled pork was bland, and honestly no different than pulled pork I can make at home in my crockpot. I tried the traditional BBQ and the Carolina Gold sauces. The traditional was good - just enough heat. The Carolina was heavy on mustard flavor (minimal vinegar tang) and extremely watery. Both came to the table in small plastic to-go cups... I was surprised and disappointed at how little sauce was provided, especially when you're charged $0.25 per extra sauce. But the lack of extra napkins at the table should have told me everything I needed to know... The corned beef sandwich special my husband had was decent, though neither of us felt our meals were worth the nearly $20 (each) price tag. The overall experience was disappointing. The staff was kind, but besides one initial check in shortly after food arrived, no one came by to check on drinks, extra napkins, etc. My husband finished his drink partway through the meal and was never asked if he wanted/needed another. 3 stars is generous - if we could rate half stars, I'd be giving 2.5.
