As a mother of two toddlers the level of fear and anxiety during those moments is something I don't wish on anyone. Yes they did an amazing job but they went ABOVE the call of duty. Their response time was something I've never seen before. Their decision making and their urgency to make sure my son ok was so comforting during a time where I couldn't control my fear and worry. Not only did they airlift my two year old to the nearest children's trauma center but Chief Mike knew how scared I was so he made it a point to call me as I drove to the hospital. He updated me on Nathan's condition and calmed me down so that I could drive carefully make it to the hospital safely. (Btw. I made the decision to drive, they didn't recommend it) Here is the part that literally melted my heart... the day after the incident Chief Mike reached out to ask how my son was doing!!!!! Something he did NOT have to do. I can't express how thankful I am to be in this city where we have the BEST FIRE TEAM! I felt like they treated my son like family more than just a patient. Nowadays, I just hike it. It's a good 15 mile hike from Newhall trail. It is not hard because it doesn't get too steep right away so less stress on the knees, but it is long and rocky. Taking reports is the bare minimum, and this department can't even do that consistently. It's clear the problem isn't the public--it's how the department is run. Stop being overly selective in hiring and start getting people in the door who can at least handle reports and basic calls. Not every situation requires a sworn deputy. Hire civilian staff, train them, and let deputies focus on actual crime. Right now, it feels like resources are mismanaged and the community is left without support when it's needed most. If you can't respond to basic calls or take reports, then what exactly is the service being provided?

This is why voting (in fact, today is election day for Lancaster) is so important. Vote for people who prioritize citizen safety. How are citizens suppose to communicate their disatisfaction with the current Department and advocate for more police presence in a city riddled with crime and theft? Clearly there is not enough police to keep this City safe and nothing has been done to make a real difference.

Since the Grossman Burn Center moved from Sherman Oaks Hospital to West Hills Hospital a few years…read moreback, Station 84 has played generous host to the GBC burn survivors annual Holiday reunion event each year. They cooperate with the burn center's staff and volunteers, opening up the main apparatus floor for the dinner party. A large tent gets added off the back to accommodate the food serving lines, plus beverage stations, the check in desk, and photos with Santa. One of the highlights of the party is the gathering of all the burn survivors in attendance, posing in front of one of the station's giant fire trucks. Another is the introduction to the program, where the flags are marched in, accompanied by bagpipes and a drummer. The fire service traditions are so meaningful to the celebrations attendees with the close relationship between firefighters and burn patients and survivors. The graciousness of this station's welcome is so very much appreciated.
