Friendly, but they need more of a collection of books. You can order them but it's not the same.

I've been collecting library cards due to all the access to free stuff digitally. Every time I get…read morea new card from somewhere I learn about a different app that that branch has access too. Today I went in on my lunch to visit the Barstow library and get a card. I had no idea this was a county library which was an extra bonus and it's my first time getting any county library card. For some reason I thought you could only get a county library card if you live in that county, but it doesn't matter! The ladies that helped me were so nice and the process was easy. They took me to one of the computers to read and agree to the contract and I filled out all of my own information and was given a reference number to write down,, brought it to the front desk and that was it. I chose the Disney themed card with Puff the Magic Dragon and was told of their upcoming event on Saturday where you'll be entered to win a Lego model of Tweety Bird! Definitely stop by for the card. It's also a great space to get work done if you have a laptop. Most times I'm on the go and have to stop at a coffee shop and pray they have an open seat with an outlet but here there's plenty!

Barstow is not a destination, but it does make a great "a weird thing happened on my road trip"…read morekind of story. I was on a road trip toward the Grand Canyon. I needed to stop for gas and I happened to pull off the freeway in Barstow CA. I was not intended on stopping for spending any time in Barstow, but there I was. After getting gas, I thought as long as I am here, I might as well drive through the town to check out this curious town I had heard of from You tube travel videos. I made the library my destination (only to use the bathroom before I leave town). I saw modest homes and a high school that looked nice for a town this size. So, I pull up to the library and spy 2 characters, a man and woman standing on either side of the front door of the library. I am from a large California city, and that has taught me that if you see people "hanging out" in front of a building doing nothing in particular, it is a fair bet they are homeless (Barstow is a bit hot to just stand around outside). I get out of my car, walk about 5 feet and notice the man is yelling into the void. I was not in the mood to get close to a mentally ill person, so I get in my car and make my escape. I found a starbucks near a train station. The Starbucks was clean and not too busy. I have nothing against Barstow or the fine people from that desert town. That being said, I do not see myself making another stop in Barstow any time soon.

Lived in Palmdale for 3 years now…read more I personally felt racially profiled, the only time I go to this library is to simply to print the files I need for projects, a white homeless man (Big 50 year old man) came up to me who I seen while working security at one of my jobs and made snaky weird comments and got close to my face. Me and him got into a loud verbal altercation, he was in my personal space and he began to yell when I told him to back up. We yelled at each other until Library Staff came and told us to leave. However, this blonde female staff worker said something to homeless individualbut focused her attention on me. The homeless individual walked away while they proceed to tell me to leave. Another Hispanic/White female with her Disabled Daughter (probably Autistic) said I was rude because I told her to move and tried to side with the homeless dude (Lady was glued to her phone and not paying attention to her "Disabled" daughter" ) As I was printing my copy and The Director Robert Shupe came along with 5 staff surrounding me as I was printing my paper I calmly tried to explain to Robert the backstory and he cut me off to say "I don't care about the backstory" after getting the print I needed. I complied and proceed to exit the structure. Robert wanted to talk to me out side which I agreed to and I understand their policy and keeping peace, but I felt like the blonde female staff worker was bias because how did she let the homeless individual just walk away to hide. My mom came and talked to. He reassured there was no profiling but I doubt it by the female's demeanor towards me. Robert appreciated me explaining the backstory (privately not publicly) and situation is in progress partially resolved. I do want to report the female staff worker due to her selective enforcement and potential bias of the situation. This is why recording and camera are appropriate evidence to protect yourself. I have nothing against homeless people but having 1 female security guard and not a male especially not armed, Seems pretty risky. I am about advancement but city needs to stop being cheap with the safety of others.

This is a very nice library with plenty of free parking on the lot…read more There's security in the front. There's plenty of seats and outlets to charge your devices. They also have flyers about upcoming events.
