Since the Grossman Burn Center moved from Sherman Oaks Hospital to West Hills Hospital a few years back, Station 84 has played generous host to the GBC burn survivors annual Holiday reunion event each year. They cooperate with the burn center's staff and volunteers, opening up the main apparatus floor for the dinner party.
A large tent gets added off the back to accommodate the food serving lines, plus beverage stations, the check in desk, and photos with Santa.
One of the highlights of the party is the gathering of all the burn survivors in attendance, posing in front of one of the station's giant fire trucks. Another is the introduction to the program, where the flags are marched in, accompanied by bagpipes and a drummer. The fire service traditions are so meaningful to the celebrations attendees with the close relationship between firefighters and burn patients and survivors.
The graciousness of this station's welcome is so very much appreciated. read more
