The service members of Station 88 were 9/11 Heroes. Period. As a Fire Crew and One of the Top Search and Rescue Crews (the number one Search & Rescue training center,) they were dispatched to The Twin Towers and The Pentagon as soon as they could get a flight; the only permitted flight during the grounding of all air craft. They were all lost. All of them. They were lost saving lives of those buried deep within the demolished structures. Fathers, mothers, siblings, children, co-workers ..... This will be the first year I will not be able to attend their 9/11 Memorial program. A well-represented, loving and thankful gathering. There is still sadness and loss but most of all, the program empowers the American Spirit. A reminder of how strong our nation is. How we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those we know and those we just met to aid and assist where and when needed. In the pictures here on Yelp, you can see their donated fountain. On the fountain there is a steel girder from one of the Towers and a chunk of Limestone from The Pentagon. I recommend anyone attend their 9/11 Memorial. Bring your kids who need to learn more about that horrible series of events. Bring your friends to celebrate our strength. Or come alone and meet other Americans who will Never Forget. I went to have my wedding ring cut off as my finger was swollen from pregnancy and flying, to the point it was so firm and you couldn't compress with floss or reduce swelling to wiggle it off. They tried everything they could to save it first and worked together to help me. The men at the fire department are so caring and kind. Thank you for your service and for your compassion! read more

We stopped by because we needed to cut a ring off my wife's finger, which they did for us no problem. They couldn't have been more hospitable. They gave a tour to our young daughter, and even gifted her a fire hat and stickers. These men are heroes and a class act. read more

LAFD Fire Station 88 - Engine grabbing tools - Fire Departments Near Me - Los Angeles, California

A Sherman Oaks stalwart, the iconic fire station on Sepulveda, south of Magnolia, is the only station outside of New York with a piece of both the WTC and the Pentagon, featured in an understated & moving monument to 9/11. The station itself is grand, and the dedicated firefighters are personable, willing to take your child on a tour if there are no active calls. The area around the station is clean, and they do a good job of maintenance and appearance. read more

LAFD Fire Station 88 - 9/11 Memorial - Fire Departments Near Me - Los Angeles, California

Terrible experience with The firefighters that were dispatched to tend to a homeless man who had passed out on my front lawn in Sherman Oaks. I had tried to wake the man up to no avail, and was unsure if he needed medical attention so I called 911 and they dispatched four twenty something firefighters who seemed both perturbed and angry that they were even dispatched for such a call. When they arrived they were extremely rude and terse. After some time, they were able to wake up the man who was obviously inebriated and he was able to walk off on his own volition. One of the tall firefighters then turned to me and said, "couldn't you see he was sleeping!" No **** Sherlock. Thank you for the wonderful observation. Should I have just left him there passed out on my lawn?. After a bit of a huff and a puff he climbed back onto the fire truck with the rest of his crew and left as the homeless man staggered off into the distance. Maybe he was having a bad night but not the kind of amicability you would expect from a public servant. I'm sure this station is great otherwise. read more

I slipped and dislocated my ankle. When I called 911, the fire truck showed up first. What a great relief! They were very kind and considerate, explaining each action they took and getting my permission...to splint my ankle, to prop it up on a box while we waited for the ambulance, etc. I feel very fortunate to live in a neighborhood served by this crew! read more

My friend feel at my home on Saturday evening and crashed into a curio cabinet. She hit her head and sustained multiple deep cuts on her arm. Fire Station 88 crews responded within 10 minutes after my 911 call. They were calm, efficient and very helpful. Their kind and, sometimes, humorous, attitude lightened the mood. As the EMTs treated my friend, the firefighters cleaned up all the broken glass. After a day of fighting brush fires, they went above and beyond the expected. We thank them for the service and their help!!! read more

Well I have never been inside the station so I am writing a review based on a favor they did for us and the customer service over the phone. I called the station to arrange to have my dog come over to take pictures by a fire truck. They had no problem with it but said they may not be there because its a busy day. First off, the guys seems extremely cool! they were super sweet when talking to them. Anyhow, we left the house knowing we may not see them, and to our surprise they were closed but they left a emergency vehicle on the side of the station for us. How awesome. These guys rock. read more
