I've been going to Dr. Stolar for years and always look forward to seeing him! I like him a lot, he's professional and thorough which is the most important reason to keep a doctor, but the real reason I keep going back is because he's kind and has a good sense of humor. Other doctors upon seeing his name on my medical bio have remarked "Oh, he's really good!" Yes, he is, and is also one of the Washingtonian's top rated doctors. His nurse and staff always have a smile and are very helpful and pleasant too. Every year I go for the yearly skin check and get moles removed. Yesterday Dr. Stolar's staff fit me in on a very hectic Monday. Saturday I had discovered a tick and rushed to a doctor in my neighborhood in the hopes she could extract it. She tried, but the tick was so embedded in my skin she was unable to remove it, but she prescribed medicine against Lyme disease and urged me to see my dermatologist asap for its removal. Quick call first thing Monday morning to Dr. Stolar. His staff immediately fit me in. Dr. Stolar has removed 3 ticks from me over the past 10 years - love walking through the woods! He removed the tiny tick in seconds - pinprick to numb the area, and the little guy was completely out...carefully double checked to make sure every trace of it was gone, then cleaned and closed the area! Done. Relieved, I said I would be making another appointment to come in since I had recently found a new mole. He inspected it, told me not to worry, it was only sun damage - and quickly removed it, saving me the time and expense of another visit. Yes, he's a keeper! read more

The reviews about feeling rushed by Dr. Stolar are absurd. "Rushed" should be loosely interpreted because it is how those people view their experience. I have seen Dr. Stolar every three months for nearly 5 years for skin checks. He is always professional and knows exactly what to look for. Hence why he doesn't spend a lot of time with you. I have never taken that in a bad way, but instead view it as a testament to his knowledge and expertise of skin-related matters. In my time seeing him, I have had 4 places removed out of precaution. The two which required additional surgery (including a visible place on my face) have healed perfectly and the scars are minimal-another experience that supports his expertise. He is always willing to help if I have other skin-related concerns. The reviews about short wait times are true and it is very metro accessible. With regards to reviews about his front office staff, they are there to do their jobs. Sure, they might not be overly friendly, but they are always professional and, in my opinion, that matters more. Finally, their billing system is very user-friendly for paying balances online. If you're looking for a quality dermatologist, you cannot go wrong with Dr. Stolar. read more

Dr. Stolar was wonderful and I very highly suggest you see him if you have any issues. He took his time to be sure to address all of my concerns, and was very pleasant to talk to. I had a full body check for moles and he not only told me where all of the ones I couldn't see were, he also told me how they looked and if I needed to watch them. He also explained to me exactly what to look for, and what puts certain parts of the body at more risk than others. He also went over my concern with acne, which I had unsuccessfully seen another dermatologist for. He gave me two medicines to treat it, explained what they were and how they work, and he gave me a realistic explanation for how long they would take to work. Lastly I have a small cyst on my face which he attempted to treat right there in the office! Unfortunately it was too deep and he couldn't get it out for fear of scarring me so we will have to try again on my followup- but the fact he took the time to do it when he didn't have to was very impressive. I've been to Dr Stolar for several years, and what others say about the efficiency/timeliness of the office is correct. I went in for an annual checkup (skin cancer?) and, while there, mentioned a problem I've been having with a rash on my scalp. He prescribed a medicine; fine. When I went to pick it up, I was astounded to learn that it costs $450! -- with my insurance, I "only" paid $90. On reflection, it seems to me Dr Stolar could have prescribed something less expensive -- and suggested we give it a try before bringing in the big guns. Especially for what appeared to be (and he reacted as tho') it was a simple matter. Maybe something that had been on the market for a while and even had a generic option. Then, Dr Stolar may be one of those who have no idea what medicine costs -- he prescribes what he thinks is the best medical treatment based on what he reads/knows. My advice: when he begins to write a prescription, ASK what the meds cost -- if that is a concern to you. I sure will the next time...... read more

While I understand there is a pandemic going on, I feel that if the office is open somewhat normal processes can still happen. Example 1, when I was talking to the nurse back in the exam room, I mentioned that my skin issue was on my back, and WITH THE DOOR OPEN, she asks me to take off my shirt and then discusses it with me in a normal conversation tone from the door, with me on the exam table. Example 2, I wanted an evaluation of rosacea on my nose and the doctor (Stolar) had me pull my mask done, barely glanced at it, then said to pull the mask up and just said it looked fine. Overall, the office was not a great experience, the scheduling team was not very polite when I called to schedule, the nursing staff seemed neutral at best, and the doctor wrote a prescription and handed it to me to take vs calling it in to a pharmacy. Additionally, the doctor was very brief to the point of curt and had poor, at best, "bedside manner". read more

Having moved to the D.C. area not too long ago and armed with my new employer-provided insurance, I made an appointment for Dr. Stolar's office this morning. Due to my own oversight, I did not have a referral from a primary care physician, and the kind ladies at the front desk had to inform me that my insurance would not cover the visit. Ms. Kelli Monroe and the other office staff were so incredibly understanding and compassionate - they were very patient with me, explained the whole situation, worked hard to find potential solutions, and made sure they could still fit me into Dr. Stolar's busy schedule. It means so much to me that they would work so hard to help me even after my mistake caused them such inconvenience. Thank you Kelli and all the staff at Dr. Stolar's office!! We have been very pleased with the capable, compassionate care provided by Dr. Edward Solar and the outstanding staff at Metroderm DC since Dr. Stolar began treating my son for atopic dermatitis three years ago. Appointments are easy to schedule and always on-time; prescriptions are filled and medical forms are completed promptly and accurately; insurance and billing are handled seamlessly. Most important, Dr. Stolar and his staff have a warm, welcoming manner that puts patients (and parents) at ease. Dr. Stolar takes the time to get to know his patients and to listen and respond to their questions and concerns, which is invaluable in any treating patient but especially those with chronic conditions. I'm surprised by some of the reviews, as I've been a patient of Dr. Stolar's for many years, so wanted to chime in. The staff might not be totally warm and fuzzy, but they are efficient and I have hardly ever had to wait. They are great about scheduling you right away when you need to be seen. Dr. Stolar is very professional and efficient, and while not overly chatty, has always taken the time to respond to any questions I had. I also feel he is very fair in explaining the pros and cons of cosmetic and other optional treatments. He diagnosed my Lyme disease right away, and based on the horror stories I have heard about undiagnosed and drug-resistant Lyme, I will always be extremely grateful to him for that. The office is Metro accessible to the Blue, Red Silver and Orange Lines. Who could ask for more convenience? The receptionists are personable and efficient. They will try to work you in if it's a pressing matter and offer whatever times are still available. There is a "how can we make this work for you" mentality. If Dr Stoler is running a bit behind, which almost never happens, they know why and advise patients accordingly. Dr Stoler is personable and professional. It was obvious from today's visit that he had read my chart beforehand. I like the personalized treatment. If you are a busy professional or someone who wants a concerned physician, this is the practice for you! read more

I was realy shocked to read 2 bad reviews for Dr Stolar. I have referred 8 friends and everybody loves him. I had a very large skin cancer , basil cell, on my leg he had to have surgically removed. I thought it was going to leave a huge scar and to my surprise after surgery it was like plastic surgery and no scar at all!! I was referred to him by a friend who works in a large association and everybody there used him so I gave him a try. The nurses were great also and the staff very friendly so I have no idea how the 2 bad reviews got through. I have been a sun/beach person for years and I am really glad I have Dr Stolar and staff as my doctor. read more

Dr. Stolar has been my dermatologist for a number of years and I continue to see him, because I trust him and he is extremely professional and knowledgeable. I appreciate that he takes my concerns seriously and answers my questions thoroughly. I also appreciate that the office is very convenient (accessible by metro on either the red, blue, orange, and silver lines), the staff at the front desk are professional and efficient, and I am seen for my appointment in a timely manner. This was my first visit. Dr. Stolar was easy to talk to and had excellent demeanor. The wait time was very short, which I appreciated. As others have mentioned, the lady who answers the phones is on the brusque side, but that is not to say she doesn't do her job; she found me an appointment for the day after I called. Everyone else I dealt with was friendly. Also, the location is great: right off Farragut Square on the Red, Blue, Orange, and Silver lines. I never write reviews, but it's so hard to find a good doctor in DC I hope this helps someone. This place was so great! I had my first appointment for a possible skin cancer screening. Everyone was kind and professional. I had already filled out the appropriate forms online so the check in process was super easy. Once I got into the exam room I saw Dr. Stolar pretty much immediately. He was nice and efficient. The appointment lasted about 20 min but I never felt rushed. All around great! read more

Dr. Stolar's office is run very efficiently: the short wait-time is better than any other physician experiences I have had in DC, NY, and London. Dr. Stolar himself is very professional. I did not feel like I got short shrift. He listened to my recounting, examined the affected areas, and gave me his opinion. Dr. Solar treated my son, Rocky in the early 80's. He was just 5 at the time and had a rare skin disease that I was told would impair him for the rest of his life. Today my son is 43 years old and the father of 2, he owns his own business doing lighting and sound for huge events. He is here today because of Dr. Solar and I will forever be grateful to him for giving my child a life, a chance of being normal and a future. read more

Nice short wait time in the reception area and pleasant and efficient staff. Everyone is nice there. Im usually In and out in record time. But i felt the process of removing a (very) small wart took too many visits. He wanted to see me 3 times for it. I've seen Dr. Stolar for basic skin checks and to have a cyst removed - he is friendly and doesn't treat questions like you're stupid. What takes his office to 5-star level is the staff, who are without exception cordial, helpful and cheerful. No surly front desk here or brusque assistants...excellent positive attitudes all around. Dr. Stolar is the best dermatologist I have ever had. He always provides the appropriate treatment and I have seen excellent results. His office is clean and his staff is STELLAR!
