I can only say good things about Dr. Stolar and his office. I called on a Monday and got an appointment scheduled for two days later. The office sent an appointment reminder phone call with clear instructions. All the patient forms were available online. On the day of my appointment, the office staff were nice and attentive, the hand sanitizer was plentiful (a gallon jug with a pump), and the wait was short. Dr. Stolar is the kind of doctor I wish I could clone. I didn't spend much time with him but there was no need to - he explained everything, told me what my options were, and was very efficient. Even though we were probably in the exam room together for 10 minutes, I felt I had all the time in the world to ask him questions and get his opinion. He didn't make me feel rushed and he wasn't dismissive. I trust him wholeheartedly and will be seeing him next week for a surgical procedure. I appreciated his full explanation of what the surgery and recovery will entail. I've been seeing Dr Stolar since 1987 and have the upmost confidence in him. I had skin cancer at the young age of 35 which required cancer surgery and plastic surgery. Dr Stolar referred me to a top Mohs surgeon who removed the cancer then sent me to an excellent plastic surgeon. I could have been disfigured by lesser doctors. But I ranked 3 stars overall due to unfriendly front desk staff and difficulty making short notice appointment when a concerning skin condition is found. I have been a patient for several years. Rushed appointments and lack of engagement by the doctor seem to be the norm with dermatologists in DC, so I have come to accept that. But lack of compassion and help by front desk staff is prompting me to find a new derm doc. Pricing is generally fair to a bit high. I think Dr. Stolar is talented and quite matter-of-fact. Skin screening and subsequent mole removal has never taken more than 20 minutes, so contact with him may feel hurried, but always complete. read more

It's a mixed bag. This place makes me miss the doctors in the suburbs who actually give care not treatment. If they're convenient to you, cool, if not then don't go out of your way. Pros - Very efficient, generally run on time which can be a rare find, appropriate treatments that work. Cons - You're "processed" here, your symptoms are treated but don't expect them to try and know you. I've been every 6 weeks for a year now and I still get rude treatment on the phone and cold reception from the staff. If anyone in that office looked at me and said "I literally hate every second of my job, but most of all I hate people." I wouldn't be surprised. ** EXCEPT ** for the lady that takes you back to the patient rooms. Have to give credit where credit is due, she's always the nicest person there. You're not going to be asked if you're okay or if you have questions. If you are going to go, here are some tips: - Try to call before 4 - to confirm what someone else said, the phones do go off early (straight to voicemail) pretty often. - Prepare your questions ahead of time and ask them first before treatment. You won't get much of an opportunity as visits are brief. - If you need someone to "hold your hand", bring your mother, this doctor is not going to do it. - Office is very close to the metro, parking would be difficult in the area. read more

Just now reading Dr. Stolar's reply. He said "There are many temporary interventions that can drain a cyst such as apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil and other anecdotal remedies one can find on the internet. Any procedure or treatment to drain a cyst is a quick fix and will likely result in a recurrence of the cyst over time." I asked him point blank if surgery guaranteed that the cyst would not return and he said, point blank, "No". Sounds like "temporary" to me, eh doctor? Hmmm. Since everything is temporary, or at least not guaranteed to be a permanent fix, why not recommend the least invasive solution first, if you're a true professional? BTW, my cyst has not come back and the ACV has worked like a charm. read more

This review is for my first appointment to be treated for acne. I was pleased with the interaction I had with Dr. Stolar, especially compared to other derms in DC. He listened to my problems, gave thoughtful answers to all my questions, explained everything to my satisfaction, recommended some products when I asked and even gave me a lower cost alternative to try. I was in and out in about 20 minutes while still feeling adequately attended to. The staff was fast and efficient, if not overly friendly, which I noticed but didn't really mind given how nice the doc was. I also appreciated that the patient forms were not overwhelming. This was my second visit. Dr. Stolar is very nice, very professional and straight to the point. I really just wish he could spend more time with his patients, explain again the procedure ( I just researched what he did ). Maybe it looked like I was in a rush cause I needed to breastfeed my baby but I wished he could have spent a little more time. Also, I don't understand why the patients have to fall in line to return the paper used to check procedures made/done to us. I think it's not the patient's responsibility to turn in the paperwork.
