I also want to thank everybody who answered the phone and worked at the desks in the reception area at check-in and for scheduling. There are so many that I rather not say individual names at this time in fear leaving somebody out unintentionally but I certainly want to give kudos to Oscar and Edgar who I almost always checked in with as I was checking out actually because they would schedule my following appointments at checkout. Everybody you meet there will be kind to you and of course you will show them respect!! i've been discharged because I've progressed well and my Medicare expired, but I will be going back early winter for more advanced therapy as my osteoporosis starts to reverse after my injection plan which starts within weeks. I look forward to seeing them again. Thank you HSS. I most highly recommend this world renowned HSS, Manhattan. I'm sure all the other branches are great also but I'm focusing on Manhattan because that's the only one I knowon 70th St., York Avenue. It's also right next to the actual NYP Cornell hospitals so very convenient and you can make two appointments same day! Wishing good health & blessings to all I've mentioned above plus Dr Brian Page and his ass't Brian also! Barbara T. UES

Elevators are slow and open different sides depending on the floor. Not every doctor has a post-appointment helper at that site - some call you back. They have MRI and x-ray machines here and top-notch staff. Inside the hallways aren't all straight - a lot of angles and turns, and not always easy to find the right room/space but the nurses are super helpful. Doctors, somewhat less so and only a few minutes before they recommended another appointment. It's very busy, though, and a lot of waiting or time between appointments since there's a lot of people seeing the doctors. They also have a number of sister sites, including one in NJ across the bridge.

In the fall of 2011, entirely without warning (up until that point I had been a healthy 33-year-old…read morewoman in good shape as I was biking to work semi-regularly and taking Taekwondo twice a week), I couldn't get up from a seated position. Shortly thereafter, both knees and hands were incredibly painful and virtually unusable. I couldn't walk well at all, and I could barely stand to unfurl my hands. I wound up going to nine different kinds of specialists, had an MRI, CT scans, and countless amounts of blood drawn. I was my own little episode of House. I quickly realized that despite all having taken the Hippocratic Oath, not all doctors are created equal, and many make you know exactly how much of their time they feel you're wasting. The only specialist who never gave up on me was Dr. Schwartzfarb. From my first visit with Dr. Schwartzfarb, he took an incredible amount of time with me. Yes, you may find the wait to be long, but be patient. He will afford you the same time and attention he gives all of his patients. He's soft spoken and a great listener, which I mention only because I've met some physicians who are overly loud and obnoxious, which can almost be distracting as you're trying to remember all the symptoms you need to discuss. Everything about this doctor lends itself to the fact that he is there to find out what is wrong with you. In fact, he writes down everything you tell him (he may ask you to pause so he can catch up to you). His exams are so thorough you won't believe you're at a specialist's office in the non-stop hustle that is Manhattan. He'll ask you a million questions, examine every single joint, and if necessary, he will send you to get every diagnostic test possible until he figures out what the problem is. He's relentless in that regard. And, he saves you time and money by offering in-house x-rays and a nurse who does expert blood draws. I've been going to Dr. Schwartzfarb for over a year. He was able to determine that I have Crohn's Disease. As you can imagine, getting from arthritis to an irritable bowel disease was like finding the proverbial needle in a haystack, but Dr. Schwartzfarb did it. And now he's been helping me get into remission with a treatment of Remicade infusions and other drugs. His staff also makes my recovery possible. Every month I need to get my blood drawn and his nurse can do it blindfolded. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that I have possibly the worst veins in the history of circulatory systems, but Dr. Schwartzfarb's nurse can do it on the first try, with barely any pain and make me laugh at the same time. She saves me an untold amount of anxiety/stress, and I'm forever indebted to her. Remicade is an incredibly expensive drug, and Dr. Schwartzfarb's office manager is like the insurance whisperer. This is the first person in my entire 34-year life to date who makes it a point to do everything in her power to handle and conquer the insurance bureaucracy. The amount of times this woman has gone above and beyond so that I don't have to stress on the phone with my insurance company is staggering. And, she possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of insurance costs and procedures so she'll help you navigate the often confusing waters. There's no way I would've been able to handle the insurance side of my treatment without her, and the weight she's taken off my shoulders is immeasurable. In this day and age, it is so profoundly rare to find a practice like Dr. Schwartzfarb's. Usually, you're lucky if you get five minutes with a doctor, let alone if you're remembered or treated like a patient, instead of a file. And that's another thing: So many doctors want to treat the diagnosis, instead of the patient. They don't really take the time to learn who you are and why--even though you may have the same disease as another patient waiting in the waiting room--you may not require the same treatment. Dr. Schwartzfarb really only looks at you and your case and your symptoms and the best course of action for you. He is committed to you as patient and figuring out a plan that works optimally for you as a person. Speaking of, I'm happy to report that while not entirely out of the woods, I am able to walk and even ride my bike again. I was so happy the first time I was able to ride my bike again that I teared up, and when I completed a 30-mile ride last October, my heart swelled and I cried huge tears of joy as I neared the finish line because I honestly wouldn't have imagined that that would have ever been a physical possibility for me. And I owe it all to Dr. Schwartzfarb, who never gave up on finding a diagnosis and who remains completely committed to my recovery. He's given me my life back and so much more.

Just updating my 6 year old review. Dr. Rackoff has now literally saved my life multiple times…read more When i originally saw her in 2018, I could barely walk, was in terrible pain and had been on 20-40mg of prednisone for over a year. Two previous Rheumatologists had been unable to help me. One of them, a renowned older male physician, treated me with disgust and distain, blaming my RA on my weight (which had ballooned due to the prednisone.) Suffice to say I was devastated and desperate and felt like my illness was my fault. When I met Dr. Rackoff in May of 2018, she came in early (7am) to see me because my internist had asked for an urgent evaluation. This person I met was kind, committed to helping me, and thorough. First, before she looked at my records, she just talked to me, with deep kindness. She could tell I was in bad shape and in pain. She laid her hand on my knee and infused me with hope. She had touched me with kindness, not disgust. After having been, throughout my life, treated so disdainfully, and sometimes berated and blamed for my condition due to my weight, she said nothing. I asked her point blank if this was my fault, and she was surprised and said absolutely not. My god, I had found someone who saw me, and would help. Subsequently, she weaned me off prednisone thus helping me lose 90lbs, and treated my RA thereby changing my life. Concurrently, she disagreed with my cardiologists that my heart murmur was just that, ordered a battery of tests and had me evaluated by Dr. Mark Sherrid, head of the HCM program. Dr. Sherrid and Dr. Massera diagnosed my (unknown to me) genetic heart condition (which had killed my father, but had not been disclosed to his children.) I underwent an Alcohol Septal Ablation on 1/31/2020, one week before Covid began to overtake hospitals and we needlessly lost so many. Even throughout the Covid years she continued to render unbelievably attentive care during that crisis. So much so that a year later she found Thyroid cancer and in June of 2021, I had a thyroidectomy. In addition, EVERY colleague she sent me to was warm and caring whether at NYU, Cornell Weil, or in private practice. Not one of them was dismissive or blamed my issue on me. WOW. It's now been 7 years since i started with Dr. Rackoff who has saved me multiple times and changed my life. I am a work in progress who is amazed on a daily basis that this treasure has come into my life. I don't know how she renders this level of care, and still has other patients, and I am consistently amazed that aside from her regular patients, she carves out time multiple times per year to fly abroad and render care in war torn countries, or wherever urgent help is required. Dr. Rackoff heeded a call to serve, and she does for me, and so many others. This healer, is an angel who walks among us.

I started to see the doctor, he tried out 3 different intravenous medications on me, each one of them worked, but the third medication called ACTEMRA, was able to really help my lungs. My lungs were really in bad shape from Scleroderma. I finally stopped coughing every five minutes. I once hurt my shoulder by sleeping on it the wrong way, he saw me right away that day and gave me a cortisone shot that relieved the pain. Dr. Lipschutz also knows many doctors and he referred me to a fantastic pulmanologist called Dr. Kaner, who is a very kind and a very knowledgable doctor. I have been seeing Dr. Kaner every half a year. I love his staff, they never forget to call you back and when they are not busy they will patiently listen to your list of health concerns. Sometimes the wait could be about an hour, but IT IS WORTH IT, because the Doctor will take his time with you and he will even call other doctors, if he wants you to see them.
