After reading great reviews, I went to visit to Dr. Jang. Reception Staff: "Oh, you won't be seeing Dr. Jang today. Dr. ??? will see you." So, I got some other guy, which I can't remember his name. Maybe that's good. I know I've got some problems with my teeth. That is why I'm here in the first place. I really didn't need to hear a lecture about "the long process it will take" to get my mouth in order. At least my mouth is clean, because I don't swear much. And, I didn't come to be seen by the Junior Varsity. The staff was very nice to me and get the two stars. The dental assistant that took my pictures and xrays was great. There was a issue with my insurance, which in the end, was corrected and handled nicely by the admin staff. If someone tells you that Dr. Jang is great, he just might be. I never saw him and quite frankly, I never will. read more

I was referred to Dr. Johnson at Dr. Jang's practice through a friend: in the year since I had my first appointment, I've had a few routine cleanings, and a cavity filled... and my husband and teenage children have been seeing her as well. Dr. Johnson is extremely professional and prompt. The dental hygienist is so thorough with her cleanings -- I didn't realize there was "more to do" than what my previous dentist was doing. Me and my two daughters jazzelle and Lauren taken in for an evaluation by doc Johnson and teeth cleaning by jasmine and another lady for jazzelle. They are professional, efficient and really understanding ! Scheduling appointments with Jose is such a breeze. I had delayed my normal dental care due to concerns about COVID-19. I've since been to a few doctor's appointments, and have grown more comfortable with going out into a medical/healthcare setting. I have to say that I felt safer at Dr. Jang's office than I did at my medical doctor's office! They have taken so many precautions, including increased ventilation, pre-arrival health quiz, temperature check/hand sanitizer upon arrival, and very few people in the office. The hygienist, Jasmine, asked if I wanted to take my x-rays a few months early so I could avoid coming in again, which I thought was very thoughtful. The cleaning I got was great, as usual, and Jasmine's upbeat attitude is always welcome -- she conveyed her smile even through all the PPE she was wearing! Thankfully, I wasn't in need of any additional dental care right now, so I didn't actually see Dr. Jang this time, but he is a great dentist who I have trusted to take care of my teeth for over a decade. (Shout out to Jose at the front desk, too, who is always pleasant and professional!) I'm glad that I've been receiving the automated dental reminders, since with so much going on right now, it was really one of the last things I'd be thinking about, otherwise. Our dental benefits are use-it-or-lose-it, so I'm glad I was able to get in before the end of the year. Dr Jang did NOT know why my molar was sensitive. He blamed it on my wisdom tooth and wanted to make money off of that by extracting the wisdom tooth. I was so shocked because my wisdom tooth was NOT the problem. I left with my molar in pain, that lasted for months and after several visits, Jang said he did not know what the problem was and kept wanting to take x-rays. DO NOT go to Jang, they are quick to bill your insurance and will NOT tell you upfront what to expect to pay...they just do work and charge it to you eventually if the insurance does not pay. You have been warned. (my wisdom tooth is fine and I have since found another dentist. read more

I just came out of his office from an initial exam and cleaning. The experience was beyond great. After shopping around for dentists for over 2 years I have never been able to find the right fit. From the great customer service the front end staff exhibit to the extreme professionalism of the hygienists and dentists I couldn't ask for anything more. Big thumbs up to the front end staff who greet everyone by name and all make you feel right at home. I was a little irritated at first because they were running a few minutes late and I didn't have much sleep after working an 18 hr shift. However, the front end staff made me feel so welcome and comfortable, were so nice and offered me coffee, water that i had forgotten I was ever irritated. Dr. Jang took his time to explain my mouth and all my teeth inside of it. I had braces and had no clue why they had extracted some of my teeth but Dr. Jang covered it all in my exam. The televisions on the ceiling are definitely a plus as well. Their technology is up there compared to some of the old fashion dentist offices I have visited. Luckily I have insurance but had I not I would still pay the full price just based on my overall customer service experience at this office. read more

I was recommended by my girlfriend to visit this office when I haven't been to a dentist in over 1 year - I'm so glad I did! 5/5 stars because of my awesome experience getting my wisdom teeth removed from Dr. Kim and having check ups on my night guard with Dr. Lim. Overall, I will continue coming back for my regular checkups - they also have an office in Pinole too! Highlights: 1. Staff: from the desk clerk to the assistants to the doctors, they were all very nice, attentive, and will answer questions. 2. Setting expectations: a proposed treatment plan provided the costs covered by my insurance and my co-pay on my nightguard and wisdom teeth operation...it was a good overview and set my expectations in the beginning. 3. Technology in-house: it was top of the line and helpful. They were patient in showing me my teeth health on screen and where potential cavities could be present as well as teaching me to floss properly! 4. Reminders: I have never gotten so many emails/mail reminders of an upcoming appt. Though I track everything on my online calendar so this was necessary for me, it felt good to think they put in this much effort to remind me nonetheless. Overall, great staff, treatment plan with breakdown of costs, modern technology, and helpful reminders. Try them out! read more

I've had a crown on a front tooth since a basketball accident in my teens. Now in my thirties my crown needed to be replaced. I can't believe how pleased I am with the helpful, caring dentistry I receive at Dr Jangs! My new crown looks and feels better than the previous one ever did. After my last baby one of my molars also needed to have a root canal and crown. It's been a year since I had the crown placed and it fits and functions so well sometimes I can't remember which tooth on which side I have a crown. These guys are excellent! read more

I've been going to Dr. Jang for about 10 years. His office is lovely. He has a friendly and professional staff as well. I originally chose him as my dentist for his cosmetic dentistry expertise because having healthy AND nice looking teeth are both important to me. I went for my regular cleaning yesterday and was delighted to see Becky in his Orinda office. I used to see her in his Pinole office but when I moved, the Orinda office was closer to my house. Dr Jang is a good dentist. I gave the office a low rating because their sales tactics are too aggressive. I feel like I am on their robo call list and poaching for what they call "preventative" maintenance. As the year progresses they closely watch your insurance allocation and pounce on it constantly nudging you to make sure that all of your available funds are used. You will receive many texts and emails reminding you that your cleaning or checkup are due. The scheduler is very aggressive. Billing and the cost of treatment is questionable. Before scheduling services or signing on the bottom line, ask that a formal request for treatment be submitted to your insurance company so that you know exactly what they are going to pay and what you are going to pay. The codes noted on Dr. Jang's work summary are not necessarily the same used by your insurance. I hope you find this post helpful. read more

I'm so glad I found this dentistry! I just had my second appointment there and I was doubtful that they would be as nice to me as they were on my first visit, but alas, they were so great! Jasmine is so friendly, did a great job cleaning my teeth and carried conversation with me throughout. She is very communicative about everything she's doing and explained the charts to me very well. Dr. Jang came in to talk to me as well and gave me very helpful advice and showed his consideration for my financial limitations and insurance coverages. After going to Dr. Jang for multiple cleanings, and bringing my children as well, I needed some major dental work done. I consulted with him about it, and after a lengthy meeting where he basically scared me to death about the future of my mouth, he refused to tell me exactly what the charge for the proposed work would be and made it seem much more complicated than necessary. In fact, he said the charge would be "between $10,000 and $20,000"! As if a ten thousand dollar difference would be no problem! I found another dentist to do the work (and it is beautiful) for significantly less and with no long-winded scare story--AND, they gave me a printed cost estimate that they have been true to. Another time, I went in for a cleaning and check, supposedly by Dr. Jang, but they put me with an "associate" dentist who was actually an orthodontist, and who also scared me (see a trend here?). He talked and talked about my mouth but didn't make much sense. He made it seem like I was going to need all kinds of (ultimately unnecessary) work. When I did see Dr. Jang, I found his attitude to be consistently condescending and overly ominous, but he takes our insurance so we kept going for basic cleanings. Imagine my surprise when he said he would not see me again (just for a cleaning) because of MY "attitude"! (huh?) He tried to recover and give me a lengthy explanation about "continuity of care," because I had gone to other dentists instead of using his office for the 10-20K job. I walked out mid-lecture and slammed the door behind me (literally!). I had had enough of him. It was a humiliating and upsetting experience, overall. I don't know what it is with Bay area dentists. Many of them just seem to care about the money more than anything else. Maybe I just have bad dental karma, but I have learned one thing: you really have to shop around. NO NO NO! Worst business practice ever! Especially for a "dentist". Dr. Graciela Gonzalez, did some simple fillings for me and COMPLETELY F'D it up. My gums were BLEEDING and I had so much DISCOMFORT for 2 weeks, so I called them up and they said they would fix it for free. I go in, Dr. Jang fixes my fillings and says I'm all set. Before I walk out of their office, I asked them if anything was due, they tell me no, and that I paid in FULL already. I leave and 2 weeks later, I get a $200 dollar bill for what they fixed. HOW SHADY and FRAUDULENT can this place get? You can stick as many good looking receptionist in this "dental office" as you want, I'm never coming back. I've contacted the BBB and my insurance. I wouldn't even consider this place a business practice. Complete frauds. THIS DENTAL OFFICE IS NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

I just want to start off by saying that I have the WORST GODDAMN TEETH EVER. Despite keeping up good oral hygiene my teeth are naturally soft, and I've had several root canals, caps, and fillings- there is not a single virgin tooth in my mouth. That said, you can believe me when I say I have seen a significant number of dentists. Dr. Jang is the only dentist I have trusted and liked enough to settle on as my permanent provider. I cannot believe some of the nasty, petty reviews on here. Dr. Jang is a dentist that specializes in cosmetic work, and he is very good at what he does. His goal is to ultimately turn out every patient with a perfect set of teeth and dental work. He has high standards and an attention to detail I've rarely seen in other dentists. That is why, as some of the reviews on here note, he recommends more work than most people feel they need done. He approaches every set of teeth as a project, and tries to lay out a plan with each patient to achieve perfection. This may mistakenly be taken by some with a persecution complex and fear of spending money as an attempt to empty their wallet, when it is simply a sign of his high standards. I've improved more in my time with Dr. Jang than with any other dentist because of the long-term plan we've worked on together intent on improving the overall quality of my teeth- not simply fixing problems as they arise. If you want high quality work and aim for care that will last longer than the period you're in his chair then this is your guy, Dr. Jang is not a cheap wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am fixer-upper. You can go anywhere for that. I've had SO MANY problems with old fillings and caps, but everything Dr. Jang has done on my teeth has withstood the test of time, and he's fixed up a lot of the failings of former dentists too. I used to be terrified of the dentist due to bad experiences when I was younger, and the frustrating regularity with which I found myself in their care. From the beginning I appreciated how the Orinda office was set up more like a house than a sterile medical environment, they've done a very good job of giving it a non-threatening, comfortable ambiance (the T.V.s hung on the ceiling above the chairs are a nice touch too). And while I've had many kind dentists in my time, Dr. Jang stands out to me as one of the most sensitive, understanding, and kind people I've been fortunate enough to have work on me. He's also retained all of his (very friendly) staff for longer than I've ever seen at any other dentist, which as much as anything else should stand as a sign of his character. read more

Cleaning went okay but then this dentist told me I needed a bunch of work that I know I did not...I went to him since I was in the area on a project job. The appt was on the day and time I needed but this guy had me worried I needed extra work even though I had just been to my dentist over a year ago. He wanted to replace all my silver fillings and I had to have a big consult over all of it. I felt like I was buying a car. While I waited I could hear the hygienist (Beth or Becky) being extremely unprofessional & bad mouthing other people. I thought great what will she say about my mouth? Ugh the cleaning was fine but I think this dentist assumes everyone has a lot of money to spend on dental work and goes out of his way to charge costs WAY ABOVE what your INSURANCE would charge. Be careful. Some of the reviews here that are positive are written by his own employees and should be taken down-last I checked thats not okay. Perhaps better REAL reviews will come in when he is less greedy & realizes we can't all afford to make our mouth perfect the way he suggests. *New fancy equipment & a pretty modern office doesn't equal money well charged to patients!* read more

I will give this office one star, because the staff is competent and friendly. Dr. Jang is something else: I think he is dishonest and only interested in money. All the good reviews must have been written by his family and friends. I tried him 5 years ago, and went to another dentist after one visit. I gave him another chance this year, because he is in my hometown and I saw all these great reviews. I wanted a filling replaced that had fallen out: he charged me for the filling and an "evaluation". No big deal. I went back for a cleaning and Dr. Lim did an excellent job. Then I came back to have 2 small fillings done that Dr. Lim had suggested. Instead, Dr. Jang gave me a 30 minute sales pitch that I should replace just about all my teeth with crowns.
