Finding a new stylist, especially without a personal recommendation, can be a scary experience. I found Edward online and had no idea (at the time) that I found "my guy'. Edward has a personality that puts you at ease right away, and a talent that is unmatched. He asked all the right questions on the phone before I set my appointment, and even more questions when I first got there to see him. He asked if I had any reference pictures, and I pulled up an old picture from 7 or 8 years ago. He took one glance at it and said "oh yeah, we can definitely do that". He color matched it perfectly, and as he was working I could feel the skill and consistency in his hands. He paid attention to every section of hair individually, whether it was doing a highlight, or styling it at the end of our appointment. This is a long overdue review. I had a very unpleasant experience with this salon. I was desperate to get my hair done during Covid and found Edward Boye. He gave me this story about how he worked with Vidal Sassoon and previously owned all these salons in LA (I suspect it was all untrue). His salon was dirty and dingy and had combs and hair all over the floor. Not many people were doing hair so I tried to overlook it. The first time he did my hair he turned it into washed out bleach blonde and fried my hair. I gave him a few more chances to do it right and every time I ended up with a bad color job. He seems to do only one solid blonde color and no low lights. To make matters worse, he started becoming aggressive with me in the salon and behaving in an inappropriate manner. I've never had one hair dresser insist on putting the chair all the way flat to blow dry my hair while he was standing up! I told him I wasn't comfortable with it and to put the chair back up. It was very disturbing to me. This isn't normal. The final straw was the last time he cut my hair. It wasn't even on both sides. I texted him a photo and asked him if he could fix it. Not a big deal. The next night I got a late phone call from him telling me that he was hit by a BUS and was in the hospital with broken bones and didn't know if he was going to make it so he couldn't fix my hair!!! You cannot make this up! I contacted him the next day and told him I didn't believe one word of his crazy story and I wanted a refund for the hair cut. He said ok and refunded me. I guess he was sober in the light of day and recovered quickly! Terrible violating experience. read more

I moved and tried other hairdressers but they just aren't as good. Edward fixed their mess and the drive is honestly worth it. His prices are fair. Now my mom, sister and aunt go to him too. My sister's been getting the Brazilian blow out for a while from him. He has the fairest price around, especially in BH. I recently got the Brazilian Blow out too and love it! Edward has been working on my hair since last year August 2021. I only trust him with my Brazilian blow out (keratin treatment), my hair looks healthy and amazing since I started coming to Edward. He is always available on the weekends which makes it convenient for me because I can only commute weekends since I live an hour and a half away but his business is open 7 days a week. He is patient, takes his time with my hair. I even brought my daughter to dye her hair purple with him and he is an expert at what he does. His prices are very inexpensive and I can honestly say, everyone compliments my Brazilian blow out, my hair looks as if it's naturally straight but my hair is very curly. I highly recommend Edward for any hair care needs, so far he is the best I've found and I travel far to get my hair done with him. My hair still curls when I shower but my hair isn't frizzy and messy as before. I will share some photos with my curly hair and straight hair after Edward's treatment. I am sorry to do a one star review for a business especially now, but I feel I have to. I had my hair done here a few months ago and waited to make sure I wanted to do this and I feel I do as a warning for anyone coming for a Brazilian Blow Out. I've had the BBO done *many* times, all have been great, I love the product and how it makes my hair so silky smooth, however, never have I EVER before had a aesthetician put SO MUCH product on my hair and DIRECTLY on my scalp. I asked straight away to PLEASE not put it directly on my scalp and it burns, but he insisted he knew better and has been doing this for years and years, etc. and whatever, he just kept doing it that way. Thanks buddy. It's only now, MONTHS later that my scalp (especially in one particular spot) has healed. NEVER AGAIN. I hate to leave a one star, but you should know before you go. Now it's on you if go decide to have it done here. read more

Edward is the only one touching my hair from now on! I waited a year to have somebody fix my hair and I spent a lot of time looking into which place had the best prices for great service, and I'm glad I woke up one morning on my day off to find his energetic ad that just made me come in. I walked in with a head of uneven colour that probably not much hairdressers would dare touch, and I told him to work his magic on it. And so he did. We decided on a sombré as to correct my old, damaged coloured hair. He worked so fast and the work was so good, I couldn't believe it. Most salons I'd go to would take double the time he took, and I just got used to sitting in a salon chair for a lot of time. He knows what he's doing and you can see it in the way he works! We chatted about his life, his career -- he's such an inspiring, humble, & positive soul and I love it! He loves what he does and it's so inspiring. After a little over 2 hours, I walked out with great, glossy, and even colour. I had a head full of sombré-d hair and I immediately liked how my hair looked with highlights for the first time! No damage, no breakage (which is usually the case for me). He practically fixed years worth of damage in just 2 hours. He also gave me a little bit of tips on how to get creative with my hair and how to care for my colour. I can't believe I got all this for such great value for this level of craftsmanship and from a very passionate individual. Best haircut I've probably ever had. I wanted a 40's style undercut but shaved on the sides and still dyed black. My hair's kind of a pain but he worked with me and made it super easy to deal with. His prices are great but he still does the quality level of an expensive hair salon. When I moved here, I had to go through several other places to find the right balance. Edward did an excellent job on my hair. I originally went in to get natural fine blonde highlights, and have never had highlights so meticulous and close to my roots before! He performs high/ and low lights very closely and can tell he has the expert experience needed to perform any color or cut on an individual based on your current needs. He writes notes and is a very nice, conservative and smart salonist. His prices are also very reasonable with a high end approach. This review is long overdue (6 weeks?); and I am so sorry, I hope Edward will forgive me for the delay in being able to devote the time and my complete attention to what is certainly the most important review / recommendation that I have ever had the honor of writing and sharing with the internet. (*I finally had to commandeer my husband's Yelp, as I got locked out of my own!) I am so pleased to be able to sit down and devote my time and full attention to saying "Thank you!!" for giving me one less thing to worry about, for adding my story to list of very happy women and men who, like me, left Edward's salon Memorial Day Weekend with renewed self-confidence; and (finally), GREAT HAIR!! My five-Star, transformational experience with Edward Boyé: the man & the salon will hopefully reach anyone seeking the right stylist/colorist...or, like me, desperately needed a new one. I have sworn my undying loyalty to Edward Boyé! I have NEVER had more compliments on my hair; and I am still floored at how reasonable his prices are...not cheap; rather, they are just right so that you can feel good about what you spent and appreciate his talents, good company, and the overall personal salon experience. Before he made me pretty again, I truly believed my hair was beyond help...when I came to Edward Boyé Salon my hair looked like a crime scene!! I was a victim of long-since grown-out and overlapped, badly damaged over-lifted highlights; then, 6" of untoned, lazy and incomplete partial weave; and my roots, themselves were a horrorshow...I am a natural brunette, but my husband's (then) recent cancer diagnosis, plus my own surgeries, and my "40-somethingness" has turned my crown white in parts with sprinkles gray in others. Overall, I felt as awful about myself as I ever had. To make matters so much worse, my hair, which used to be curly and shiny as a young girl, grows out of my head as frizzy as cheap pillow stuffing! I looked bad, and felt guilty about worrying about vanity issues; because I shouldn't be worried about my hair when my husband was just recovering from cancer surgery, and had barely begun a grueling 6-weeks of radiation. But it was Memorial Day Weekend, the lockdowns were easing up, and it was my last chance to make things easier for myself...(frizzy, long, unkempt hair is difficult, and time consuming to manage). Smooth hair is easy hair! I texted Edward on Saturday he called me back immediately, introduced himself, and spoke kindly to me about my hair; like a doctor asking where it hurts, so he can diagnose, and begin a plan to help you heal. Usually, nobody wants to spend 4-6 hours on my head. I generally end up feeling bad about myself when I leave the salon, disappointed by my stylist, who typically cut corners. I had gotten used to just being thankful for the smoothing, straightening effects of the Brazilian Blowout and (less than basic) partial weave. I have a lot of hair...and I noticed the last couple of times that my Keratin treatment was still wet, or not flat ironed properly when I got home. I almost never leave with hair looking nice enough for dinner...or to justify having just spent, on average, $450-$500. At first I was sure I wouldn't be able to afford Edward, (with his own salon on Robertson, and a solid reputation that I knew went back at least 20 years)...plus, my hair looked so bad, I figured I was likely facing the most expensive service of them all: COLOR CORRECTION! Well, I was totally wrong about every preconceived notion I had about Mr. Boyé...except for his good reputation! And he more than he lived up to it; he impressed me far beyond anything I have ever seen, (almost magically) ridding me of the color disaster; by weaving lowlights and beautiful highlights, evenly, throughout my hair, with depth and texture. His talent with color simply cannot be overstated! Those in need of a damage-free Brazilian Blowout / Keratin have come to the right place! Edward Boyé healed my hair, and treated me with dignity and respect, working just as diligently on me & my hair until it was spun silk, as he would for one of his celebrity or model clients. I was in tears in his chair when he was done, wishing I had found him years ago. I had a very bad experience with Edward Boye. My original appointment with him went very well. My second appointment he was busy and his assistant did my hair last minute. She pulled my sisters card and basically gave me someone else's color. Edward agreed to fix it for me on another visit. I tried three times to see him, the first time he had a death in the family last minute, the second time the shop was actually closed when I got there. The third time I called on my way there and when I got there he had left the shop. I finally got the message that he was messing with me and had no intention of fixing my hair. I don't know what type of mental defect he's suffering from or if drugs are involved, but beware and proceed with caution, if something seems wrong it probably is. read more

I was really excited to get my hair done by Edward, but the day before my appointment he told me he was "too scared" to do my hair. The day I made the appointment he gave me the original price of 115 and after looking at a picture of my hair he saiid it would be an extra 20$ because of the length and curliness and I was fine with that. I've been going to Edward Boye for highlights since the late 90s... He is worth the drive from Long Beach. My natural hair color is black and I leave after an hour and 15 minutes with the shade of blonde I want ... no one else would do it. He's very reasonably priced and I have hair down to my waist. Edward did a Brazillian Blowout for me last year and it took care of my "flyaways" but I don't have it regularly done simply bec my hair is straight as a board anyway and I'm not necessarily looking for the silky look. Us girls are so fickle, when we have straight hair, we want curly/wavy hair and those who have curly/wavy hair want straight, silky hair... Everyone always asks why I drive so far to get my hair done. It is so hard to find a great colorist and when you find one, you have to stick with them! read more

I took my ex girl friend to him, as she was asking for hair extensions on her thin, ever changing colored hair. Her hair was in the process of stripping red from it, and Edward I kid you not turned her Easter egg pink colored hair into blonde, vixen, bombshell hair the likes of Britney Spears, and Paris Hilton.
