Beware. Don't sit in that chair. I was looking for a new stylist closer to home, and found David online. Booked an appointment for the next day. I go in, meet David (lovely individual), the studio looks professional, and I'm thinking I made the right choice. Boy was I wrong. David seemed much more interested in giving me the cut *he* wanted than the one I asked for. It started out okay: Him: "What are we doing?" Me: "It's a pretty simple cut. All I need is the sides done, 1/2 faded up to a 1, but don't touch the top today it's a good length already." Him: "Sounds good, I know what I'm doing." David starts trimming the sides, and it seems like a normal haircut. Then, about 20 minutes in, he starts trimming my bangs. Then he moves to the top of my head. I was surprised, but he assured me, "I know you said not to touch the top, but it needs to be evened out." I'm not the stylist, so I said okay. He proceeded to trim more than an inch off the top, transforming my 'do from a classic side-part to a full-on super-short cut (front-flip, 90s boy band style - definitely not the look I was going for). After I got home, I realized that not only is it basically a buzz cut - it's also not an even one. All this after my *explicit* instructions that I didn't want him to touch the top. I'm still deciding whether to go to someone else to have them try and salvage what's left of my look, or just to suck it up until it normalizes. I'm looking forward to two or three months from now, when I can get back to the hairstyle I used to have (and the one I wanted to keep). I'm very much NOT looking forward to the inevitable in-between/growing it out phase that I now have to re-experience. I obviously won't be returning to David, and if you're considering trying him out, I'd think twice before you do. read more

5 stars! I've been trying to find a good barber / hair stylist in LA for more than a year before walking into David's shop. Since then I've never looked back. Super happy! His attention to detail is outstanding. He doesn't rush you like other barbers but instead spends as much time as he needs until not only the customer is happy but, more importantly, also he is happy with the haircut. It's no surprise then that his cuts are also very consistent. Finally, and I don't know how he does it, but usually, I'd have to get a new haircut every month. I searched for some time for a new hair stylist until I came across Yelp and David Jays Hair Studio! I saw the overwhelming amount of amazing customer reviews! Since I wanted to cut my hair off from shoulder length, I did not want to go to just anybody, but to someone who knows what they are doing! David did not disappoint! In fact he went the extra mile and styled until he was satisfied with the cut. I showed him a photo of a style I really liked and he put a lot of time in his detailing for my cut, to bring it as close as possible to the photo style! A few days later I washed the hair, I am always worried about the first time washing and needing to style my own hair. But it was extremely easy! I wonder how this place stays in business? I booked an appointment on line from their website. They ask for all of my information, show a calendar with available dates and times for those dates. I chose Monday at 12:00 and I received an email reply with my order number, cost, date, and time with the subject line "Booking Confirmed". Yet 68 minutes before my appointment I received an email from David that read "I'm not available today unfortunately, sorry. I have availability Thursday, Friday and Saturday." Seriously David this is how you run your business? I had made arrangements with work based on that time and you casually write sorry? Why is the scheduling system on your web site if you pick and choose which appts to honor? I choose to go elsewhere as you obviously have no regard for your customers time. read more
